San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Colton McKivitz (knee) suffered a sprained MCL in Monday night's win over the Los Angeles Rams. McKivitz had been filling in for Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams, who has a high-ankle sprain. Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that McKivitz is going to be "out a while" following the injury. The 49ers are now down to their third left tackle of the season, Jaylon Moore, who will be asked to cover quarterabck Jimmy Garoppolo's blind side, starting in Week 5 against the Carolina Panthers.

When Moore was forced to enter last Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos, the Broncos defense destroyed the Niners' offensive line and came after quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. San Francisco might have to devote some more help to Moore on Garoppolo's blind side for the rest of this Week 4 game to avoid something similar happening against the Rams strong defense.
49ers Add Offensive Line Depth With Colton McKivitz
The San Francisco 49ers have selected West Virginia offensive tackle/guard Colton McKivitz with the No. 153 selection during the NFL Draft. The 49ers already have a solid O-line, but they want to add future assets. McKivitz has good size, but isn't very athletic. This is mostly a depth move by San Francisco to add some young talent to their front line. McKivitz is not expected to see much action in 2020.
