Brandin Cooks News
The Houston Texans restructured wide receiver Brandin Cooks' deal to create $6.53 million in salary cap space on Thursday. Cooks was previously scheduled for a $12 million salary cap hit, but the restructure likely converts most of his 2021 base salary into a signing bonus. The 27-year-old pass-catcher rebounded from a disappointing season in his last year with the Rams in 2019 to record his fifth 1,000-yard season in 2020 in his first season with the Texans. It helped that the Texans shipped All-Pro wideout DeAndre Hopkins out of town, giving Cooks more opportunities. It's hard to argue with Cooks' value after he has recorded 1,000 yards in five of the last six seasons, but his fantasy stock could plummet if quarterback Deshaun Watson is dealt this offseason.
Houston Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks caught 11 of 16 targets for 166 yards and two touchdowns in a 41-38 loss to the Titans. Cooks' 16 targets were an amazing season-high, as were the yards and touchdowns. It was a great finish to a superb season for the 27-year-old, who racked up his fifth 1000-yard season, four of which came for different teams. Perhaps aware of this stat, Cooks stated he wants to stay in Houston and "won't accept any more trades." Of course, it will be up to the new regime to decide what to do. At any rate, when healthy, it's clear that Cooks can deliver WR2 results.
Houston Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks enters Week 17 with 984 yards on the season, putting him just 16 yards away from his fifth 1000-yard season. After catching seven passes for 141 yards and a score last week and posting 59-plus receiving yards in five consecutive games, Cooks should be set to hit that mark with ease. Houston's receiving unit has been beset with injury and suspension this season, but Cooks has been a solid threat all year, even if he got off to a slow start. Consider him a WR2 play this week.
