Jake Tonges Dealing With Plantar-Fascia Foot Injury

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that tight end Jake Tonges (foot) suffered a plantar-fascia injury in the Divisional Round loss to the Seattle Seahawks last week and will need three weeks to recover, according to Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group. Before his injury on Saturday, Tonges caught five of his six targets for 59 yards, with George Kittle suffering a season-ending torn Achilles the week prior in the Wild-Card win over the Philadelphia Eagles. The 26-year-old saw an expanded role during the regular season, too, with Kittle missing time with injuries, and he finished with career highs across the board in catches (34), targets (46), receiving yards (293), and touchdowns (five) in 17 regular-season contests. Tonges should be fully healthy for next season, and he should be back in the Bay Area as a restricted free agent.

Jake Tonges Injures Foot, Questionable to Return

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jake Tonges (foot) exited during the third quarter of Saturday's Divisional Round contest against the Seattle Seahawks. He is officially listed as questionable to return. Tonges suffered the injury following an incomplete pass, and he was seen trying to test his foot on the sideline. At the time of his departure, he had caught five of six targets for 59 yards. The 26-year-old earned the start at tight end after George Kittle (Achilles) was ruled out for the remainder of the playoffs. Throughout the seven games that Kittle has missed between the regular season and playoffs, Tonges has amassed 34 catches, 328 yards, and three touchdowns. It goes without saying that losing both Kittle and Tonges is terrible news for the Niners, who are trying to come back from a three-possession deficit in Seattle. Luke Farrell should take over as San Francisco's primary tight end for the time being.

Jake Tonges Set for TE1 Duties Against Seattle

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jake Tonges will be a legitimate top-five TE option for fantasy managers in playoff leagues for the Divisional Round on Saturday night against the Seattle Seahawks, following George Kittle's torn Achilles tendon in the Wild-Card win over the Philadelphia Eagles. The last time Kittle sat out with an injury on Dec. 28 in the win over the Chicago Bears, Tonges had seven catches on nine targets for 60 yards and a touchdown. He also had seven grabs on a season-high 11 targets for 41 yards and a score back in the Oct. 2 overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams when Kittle was out due to injury. The Niners will be facing a stout Seattle defense that held them to just three points in the Week 18 regular-season finale, but their D did allow the 11th-most half-PPR fantasy points per game to TEs during the regular season.

Jake Tonges Trending Towards Diminished Role in Week 18

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jake Tonges had a big game in Week 17, recording seven catches for 60 yards and a touchdown on nine targets. Tonges benefited from the absence of star 49ers tight end George Kittle (ankle), who was sidelined by an ankle injury. Across the six games Kittle has missed this season, Tonges has racked up 29 catches for 269 yards and three touchdowns on 40 targets. However, recent reporting indicates that Kittle is trending towards returning for the 49ers' Week 18 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. Tonges has been far less productive across the 10 games where Kittle has been active in 2025, hauling in five receptions for 24 yards and two scores on just six targets. If Kittle is indeed active for Week 18, Tonges should be avoided by fantasy managers.

Jake Tonges Stellar in Week 17, Should Continue to Produce if Given the Opportunities

San Francisco 49ers fourth-year player out of California, Jake Tonges, stepped in for the injured George Kittle (ankle) on Sunday Night Football in Week 17 and made the most of it. He earned himself an impressive nine targets, hauled in seven of them for 60 yards, and scored a touchdown. When given the opportunity in 2025, considering Kittle has now missed seven games this season, Tonges has made the most of it, and Tonges should remain in the low-end TE1 conversation for Week 18 if Kittle does, in fact, miss the game. Week 18 is a pivotal matchup for the 49ers, as they take on the Seattle Seahawks for the division and the No. 1 seed in the NFC. Important to note: Kittle practiced on Tuesday, which Tonges' fantasy managers should keep an eye on. Regardless, Tonges has proved this season that he belongs in the NFL and is worth a look in dynasty formats, as he is soon to be a Restricted Free Agent. He's hauled in 34 of his 46 targets for 293 yards and five touchdowns in six games started.

Jake Tonges Scores in Week 17, Strong Waiver Pickup for Week 18

San Francisco 49ers fourth-year player out of California, Jake Tonges, stepped in for the injured George Kittle (ankle) on Sunday Night Football and made the most of it. He earned himself an impressive nine targets, hauled in seven of them for 60 yards, and scored a touchdown. When given the opportunity in 2025, considering Kittle has now missed seven games this season, Tonges has made the most of it. On the season, he now has five touchdowns and 293 yards on 34 receptions. The key thing to monitor here will clearly be the status of Kittle's ankle, as Tonges is the clear backup to the superstar. If Kittle remains out, Tonges will be in the low-end TE1 rankings in a crucial Week 18 matchup with the No. 1 seed for the NFC and the division on the line when the 49ers take on the Seattle Seahawks in Santa Clara.

Jake Tonges A Potential Pivot For Kittle Owners

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jake Tonges could again be called on to fill the shoes of George Kittle (ankle), who is questionable for Week 17. With the 49ers taking on the Bears on Sunday Night Football, fantasy managers hoping to see Kittle take the field won't have many options should the tight end be declared inactive. Tonges, therefore, is one of the few potential substitutes left in play by kickoff. Tonges caught a touchdown pass from Brock Purdy in Week 1 and served as the 49ers' primary pass-catching tight end during Kittle's injured reserve stint, posting a 22-209-2 line from Weeks 2 to 6. Managers committed to Kittle would be wise to stash Tonges but should be advised to treat the latter as a touchdown-dependent option at tight end.

Jake Tonges Could Have a Role With Teammate Injured

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jake Tonges has an opportunity to produce in Week 17 as the 49ers face the Chicago Bears. Tonges has hauled in 27 of 37 targets for 233 yards and four touchdowns, with most of his production coming early in the season. George Kittle (ankle) injured his ankle in the 48-27 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, which could open the door for Tonges to have a viable role in this offense. In the six games that Kittle missed or left early in the season, Tonges had 25 receptions for 224 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 10.9 PPR points per game, which ranked ninth among tight ends during that span. Kittle's injury will determine whether the third-year tight end will have any fantasy value in Week 17, so fantasy managers should keep a close eye on the 49ers' practice reports this week.

Jake Tonges Phased Out of Offense

San Francisco 49ers fourth-year tight end Jake Tonges filled in admirably while teammate George Kittle missed five games with a hamstring injury. However, since Kittle's return, Tonges has seen a total of 16 offensive snaps over the past three weeks. And while he did catch a two-yard touchdown in Week 8, it came on his lone target over that same timeframe. While Kittle has yet to top 4 targets or 45 yards since returning, Tonges no longer appears to have any role in this offense and can confidently be dropped by the select few fantasy managers who might still be holding him. Kittle remains an every-week starter, while the hope remains that the eventual return of quarterback Brock Purdy will put him right back into the weekly TE1 conversation.

Jake Tonges Visits End Zone in Week 8 Loss

San Francisco 49ers tight end Jake Tonges has been pushed down the depth chart and back into his former special teams role now that George Kittle is back in action. Tonges saw just eight offensive snaps in Week 7 and was on the field for five in the 49ers' 26-15 loss to the Texans in Week 8. He managed to add another touchdown to his resume, though, securing his lone target for a score from two yards out. During Kittle's stint on injured reserve, Tonges made for a TD-dependent streaming option that paid off with three top-12 finishes among tight ends. On the season, he is up to 26 receptions for 226 yards and four touchdowns. With minimal involvement on offense now, he doesn't belong on fantasy football rosters. He won't be a factor in the 49ers' Week 9 matchup against the Giants.
