C.J. Uzomah Inactive For Super Bowl

According to the team, Philadelphia Eagles tight end C.J. Uzomah (abdomen) will not play during the Super Bowl. Uzomah joined Philadelphia's practice squad in December. Across seven contests, he ran just 14 routes and did not see a target. He sustained this injury during their victory over the Dallas Cowboys during Week 17. The 32-year-old was able to log two full practice sessions this week but was unable to turn the corner. As a result, fantasy managers should expect Dallas Goedert to operate as the clear TE1, with Grant Calcaterra serving as the backup.

C.J. Uzomah Questionable To Play In Super Bowl

Philadelphia Eagles tight end C.J. Uzomah (abdomen) practiced in full all week but is listed as questionable for Super Bowl LIX on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. Uzomah had his practice window opened last week and has been practicing in full, but it doesn't necessarily mean the Eagles will activate him from Injured Reserve for the Super Bowl this weekend. Even if the 32-year-old veteran tight end is activated on Saturday and is active on Sunday against the Chiefs, he won't be anywhere near the fantasy radar as depth behind both Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra. In seven games in his first year in Philly, Uzomah made only three starts and was not targeted at all in the passing game. He really hasn't been fantasy relevant since he had a career-high 493 receiving yards and a career-high five touchdowns for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2021.

C.J. Uzomah Practicing In Full

Philadelphia Eagles tight end C.J. Uzomah (abdomen) was listed as a full participant in Wednesday's team practice. The 32-year-old picked up an abdomen injury back in Week 17 and could not participate in team activities until last week when his 21-day practice window was opened. Fortunately, he's continued to practice fully, putting him on track to potentially be ready to go for Sunday's Super Bowl showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs. Considering Uzomah hasn't suited up in over a month, he'd likely be on a snap count even if he did play. Look for fellow tight ends Grant Calcaterra and E.J. Jenkins to continue rotating in behind Dallas Goedert on the Eagles' offense if that's the case.

Eagles Open Practice Window For C.J. Uzomah

The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Thursday that they opened the practice window for tight end C.J. Uzomah (abdomen) to return from Injured Reserve. In other moves, the team signed running back Lew Nichols to the practice squad and released tight end Nick Muse from their practice squad. It means that Uzomah can resume practicing with the team, giving him a chance to play in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, Feb. 9, against the Kansas City Chiefs. The 32-year-old suffered an abdominal injury in Week 17 but is on the mend and has a chance to play in the big game with an extra week off before the Super Bowl. However, even if Uzomah is officially activated from IR and is active against the Chiefs, he may not even see the field. The former Bengals tight end played in only seven regular-season games for Philly and was not targeted at all. UPDATE: Uzomah practiced in full on Thursday.

Eagles Sign C.J. Uzomah To Active Roster

The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Wednesday that they signed tight end C.J. Uzomah to the 53-man active roster and signed wide receiver Parris Campbell to their practice squad. The move to add Uzomah to the active roster comes after starting tight end Dallas Goedert (knee) suffered a knee injury in the Week 13 win over the Baltimore Ravens that has him listed as week-to-week moving forward. The 31-year-old veteran tight end has been brought up from the practice squad in each of the last three games but hasn't been targeted at all in the passing game. If Goedert is inactive for Week 14 against the visiting Carolina Panthers this Sunday, it will likely be Grant Calcaterra that fantasy managers should consider streaming as a TE2 sleeper in fantasy, not Uzomah. The move to bring Uzomah up is a sign that the Eagles don't plan on having Goedert available this week.

C.J. Uzomah Released By Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles released veteran tight end C.J. Uzomah on Wednesday. The Eagles signed Uzomah to a one-year pact in April and with the competition in camp, felt it necessary to cut the journeyman loose to free agency. Uzomah spent the last two seasons with the New York Jets after eight seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. Playing sparingly for the Jets last season, Uzomah managed just eight receptions on 12 targets for 58 yards and a touchdown grab. The Eagles' depth chart at tight end comprises Dallas Goedert, Albert Okwuegbunam, and Grant Calcaterra.

C.J. Uzomah Taking Part In OTAs

Philadelphia Eagles tight end C.J. Uzomah (knee) was present for voluntary organized team activities this past week. Uzomah's 2023 season with the New York Jets ended early due to a knee injury, but he's apparently recovered and ready to go with his new team. In 12 contests (eight starts) in his second year with the Jets last year, Uzomah was barely utilized, catching eight of his 12 targets for 58 yards and one touchdown. He wasn't all that much better the year prior, catching 21 of 27 targets for 232 yards and two scores in 15 games (13 starts). The 31-year-old veteran has nine years of NFL experience but will mainly just serve as tight end depth for Philadelphia in 2024, making him pretty irrelevant for fantasy purposes. However, if Dallas Goedert were to miss time with injury, Uzomah could be worth some waiver-wire consideration.

C.J. Uzomah Expected To Sign With Eagles

Free-agent tight end C.J. Uzomah, the former starter for the Cincinnati Bengals and New York Jets, is expected to sign an undisclosed one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. Uzomah flew to Philadelphia on Thursday and passed his physical and should bolster the team's passing attack to give them another weapon. The 31-year-old was released by the Jets in early March after catching just 29 passes for 290 yards and three touchdowns in 27 games for the Jets after signing a three-year, $24 million deal in 2022. Uzomah, a former fifth-round pick of the Bengals in 2015 out of Auburn, only played in 12 games (eight starts) in 2023 and ended the year on Injured Reserve with an MCL knee injury. He won't be on the fantasy radar this fall as a backup behind Dallas Goedert alongside Grant Calcaterra and Albert Okwuegbunam.

Jets To Release C.J. Uzomah

The New York Jets are planning to release tight end C.J. Uzomah (knee), according to sources. The move was fully expected and will save the Jets $5 million-plus on the 2024 salary cap. Uzomah is coming off knee surgery and was set to count $11.2 million on the cap this year. The 31-year-old veteran spent two years with the Jets and was a non-factor on offense, catching 29 of his 39 targets for 290 yards and three touchdowns in 27 games played (21 starts). He played in only 12 games (eight starts) in 2023 and had eight receptions for 58 yards and one touchdown. Uzomah has never eclipsed 500 receiving yards in his nine seasons in the NFL and isn't going to have a robust free-agent market while coming off knee surgery.

C.J. Uzomah Likely To Be Released

New York Jets tight end C.J. Uzomah and offensive lineman Laken Tomlinson are two of the team's potential salary cap cuts this offseason. Uzomah is a near lock to be released, but the Jets will save less money than they would have had general manager Joe Douglas not restructured Uzomah's contract last offseason. Cutting him would save $5.3 million with $5.9 million in dead cap space. The Jets will also save $5.4 million if/when they trade quarterback Zach Wilson this offseason. The 31-year-old Uzomah sprained his MCL in Week 13 and finished the year on Injured Reserve. He's done very little to help the Jets since the 2022 season, catching only 29 passes on 39 targets for 290 yards and three touchdowns in 27 games.
