The Miami Dolphins signed second-round cornerback Cam Smith to his rookie deal on Wednesday. Smith was selected with the 51st overall pick in this year's NFL draft out of South Carolina. The Dolphins didn't have a pick in the first round this year, so Smith was their first selection in this year's draft. Jalen Ramsey and Xavien Howard are Miami's starting outside cornerbacks for the start of the 2023 campaign, but the 22-year-old Smith could still see some playing time in his first year in the league. His final collegiate season wasn't as impressive as his 2021 showing, but he's plenty athletic to make a difference in the Dolphins' secondary.

The 22-year-old was taken in the second round of this year's draft excelled at breaking up passes in college and impressed scouts at the combine. Smith lacks elite size, so he may be better off on the inside matchup up against smaller slot receivers.
