Carson Steele Released by Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have released running back Carson Steele, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. An undrafted free agent signee in 2024, Steele earned some playing time early last season for Kansas City and finished the year with 56 carries for 183 yards. The Chiefs have much better depth at the position heading into 2025 after bringing back veteran Kareem Hunt, signing Elijah Mitchell in free agency, and using a seventh-round pick on Brashard Smith. With Steele now out of the picture, Hunt, Mitchell, and Smith will compete for touches in Kansas City behind undisputed RB1 Isiah Pacheco.

Carson Steele With Seven Rushes In Loss

Kansas City Chiefs running back Carson Steele led the backfield in the 16-33 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Steele paced the team with seven carries but only managed 22 yards, good for 3.1 yards per carry. He also brought in one catch for a loss of a yard. Despite having the most carries, Steele tied with fellow backup Brashard Smith in rushing yards. Steele figures to be the third-string running back at best and could still be competing for that role. Steele is best left undrafted heading into the 2025 season.

Carson Steele Leads Backfield In Preseason Loss

Kansas City Chiefs running back Carson Steele led the running backs with 15 rushing yards in the 17-20 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Steele was involved in the Kansas City backfield following Isiah Pacheco's early season injury, but ultimately ceded work to Kareem Hunt. Steele will presumably remain third on the depth chart heading into the 2025 season, which means he's best left undrafted in most leagues.

Carson Steele Leads Backfield In Week 18 Loss

Kansas City Chiefs running back Carson Steele handled eight carries for 25 yards and two catches for two yards in the 0-38 loss to the Denver Broncos. Steele was the clear lead back for the Chiefs, but he could not do much with his opportunities. The rookie out of UCLA stepped into the lead role with Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt ruled out for this game. Steele averaged just 3.1 yards per carry, but no other Chief carried the ball multiple times in this contest. The next time the Chiefs suit up will be against the winner of the wild card matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and Houston Texans. Steele will likely be relegated to his RB3 role when the Chiefs play their next game.

Carson Steele Has Deep-League Flex Appeal In Week 18

Kansas City Chiefs rookie running back Carson Steele is set for an expanded role on Sunday in the Week 18 regular-season finale against the division-rival Denver Broncos. The Chiefs will be resting many of their regulars this weekend after already locking up the No. 1 seed in the AFC for the playoffs. Isiah Pacheco (rib) has already been ruled out, while Kareem Hunt is doubtful to play. It means that Steele, an undrafted free agent, could make the start in the final regular-season game. However, he's surely to share touches with Samaje Perine at the very least and will be facing a top-five defense as the Broncos look to punch their own playoff ticket with a win. The increased role will boost the 22-year-old's fantasy value in Week 18, although Steele has averaged only 3.3 yards per carry on his 48 rushing attempts in his first 16 NFL games. Despite increased opportunity, the upside remains limited for Steele in a bad matchup.

Carson Steele To Have Bigger Role In Regular-Season Finale

Kansas City Chiefs rookie running back Carson Steele has been told that he'll see extra work in the Week 18 regular-season finale on Sunday against the division-rival Denver Broncos. The specifics of Steele's role are unclear, but it's likely that the Chiefs will be resting Isiah Pacheco (ribs) with the team having nothing to play for with the No. 1 seed already locked up in the AFC for the postseason. Kareem Hunt could be active this weekend, but he might not see the field much before being pulled. So if fantasy managers playing DFS contests want any exposure to KC's backfield with backup quarterback Carson Wentz leading the offense, they'll want to look to the 22-year-old Steele as their man. Still, Steele will have limited upside against a top-five defense on the road in Denver. Steele has averaged a dismal 3.3 yards per carry on his 48 rushing attempts and hasn't found the end zone in 16 games in 2024.

Carson Steele Fumbles Opportunity

Kansas City Chiefs running back Carson Steele had two carries for six yards in the 17-10 win against the Los Angeles Chargers. Steele was the starter again this week, coming off a performance where he carried the ball 17 times, but things did not go his way in this one. Steele fumbled on his first carry of the game, which led to him only getting one more carry in this contest. The coaching staff plugged Kareem Hunt into Steele's place, and Hunt was efficient with his touches. Steele will try to get back in the good graces of his coaches against the New Orleans Saints in Week 5. The Saints have allowed the fifth-most yards per carry to opposing offenses, so Steele should be productive with his touches. It remains to be seen if the team will roll with Hunt as the lead back or if they will give Steele another chance as the starter. The two Chiefs backs could split the workload, capping each other's value. The Chiefs should also be getting Clyde Edwards-Helaire back soon, which would further muddy the situation. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Kansas City backfield, trusting Steele in your starting lineup will be difficult.

Carson Steele Should Start Again

Kansas City Chiefs running back Carson Steele will take on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4. Steele had 17 carries for 72 yards in last week's win against the Atlanta Falcons. The rookie running back also had one reception for two yards in his first career start. Steele was the unquestioned lead back for the Chiefs, as Samaje Perine only had six carries in the contest. The Chiefs rookie may have more competition for touches this week since Kansas City signed Kareem Hunt to their active roster before their trip to Los Angeles. Hunt figures to be involved on the ground and in the passing game for the Chiefs. Steele should still see the majority of touches out of the backfield, but the split remains to be seen. Steele should be productive with his opportunities since the Chargers are dealing with several significant injuries. The loss of Joey Bosa and Derwin James should downgrade the Chargers unit significantly and open up more opportunities for Steele to succeed. The Chiefs should win this game by a large margin, and Steele should be the primary back draining the clock to end the game. The Chiefs rookie running back should be viewed as a low-end RB2/high-end RB3 in this week's contest.

Carson Steele Solid In Win

Kansas City Chiefs running back Carson Steele rushed for 72 yards on 17 carries in the 22-17 win against the Atlanta Falcons. Steele was also targeted twice out of the backfield and brought in one catch for two yards. As expected, Steele was the lead back for the Chiefs and was heavily involved in this contest. Steele averaged 4.2 yards per carry, and his longest run was nine yards. He was not particularly explosive, but he is a hard-nosed running back who runs downhill. Steele looks to be a serviceable replacement in the absence of Isiah Pacheco, but the Falcons were among the easier matchups for the running back position. Steele will have to do more to prove himself against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4. The Chargers have allowed the ninth-fewest rushing yards this season, so it will be a tougher matchup for the Chiefs running back. It remains to be seen when the Chiefs will get Kareem Hunt involved in the offense and how that split will affect Steele's value, but if he gets this workload every week, he will be a viable option for fantasy in a good offense that wants to run the ball. Steele should be a solid start with touchdown upside in the Chiefs offense.

Carson Steele Should Get The Start

Kansas City Chiefs running back Carson Steele will take on the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3. The rookie running back figures to get the first shot at the starting job, with the Chiefs placing Isiah Pacheco on injured reserve. Steele already saw multiple touches out of the backfield when Pacheco was healthy, so his starting should not be a big surprise. Veteran running back Samaje Perine should still play a complementary role in obvious passing-down situations, but Steele should get the bulk of first and second downs and goal-line touches. Kansas City also signed former Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt, but head coach Andy Reid has stated that Hunt will not be elevated from the practice squad ahead of the team's Week 3 matchup. The Falcons have allowed the sixth-most rushing yards per game so far this season, so Steele should be able to gain yards on the ground in his opportunities. It remains to be seen just how large of a workload Steele will receive, so he is a risky flex play in his first starting week.
