Miami Dolphins tight end Cethan Carter hauled in his lone target for a four-yard touchdown during Saturday's preseason finale against the Philadelphia Eagles. The 26-year-old has been quiet this offseason and faces an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster. A solid blocker, Carter played in 16 games last season, catching just two passes for 16 yards. He signed a three-year, $7.8 million deal ahead of 2021, but Miami could create $2.53 million in cap savings by simply releasing him. Such a move seems inevitable and would also free up $2.56 million in cap space for 2023.
Miami Dolphins tight end Cethan Carter (knee) is expected to be sidelined roughly a week or two. He'll miss the rest of the preseason, but Carter might be available for Week 1. He signed a three year deal worth $7.8 million over the offseason. Carter is expected to depth at the tight end spot. Mike Gesicki is the only relevant tight end in Miami right now, so Carter shouldn't be on anyone's fantasy radar. He'll still need to battle with Hunter Long and Adam Shaheen for snaps this season.
The Miami Dolphins agreed to deals with linebacker Vince Biegel and fullback/tight end Cethan Carter on Monday, according to league sources. Carter signed a three-year deal worth $8.25 million, with $2.7 million guaranteed. Biegel's deal is for one year. He'll return after missing all of 2020 with an Achilles tear suffered in training camp last August. Biegel will provide edge-rushing depth in Miami after starting in 10 of 15 games in 2019. Carter spent the last three years with the Cincinnati Bengals and has only seven career catches on 10 targets for 66 yards and a touchdown. He has shown reliability as a run-blocker and as a special teams contributor in his career.
