Chad Henne News
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Chad Henne has announced his retirement from the NFL. The 37-year-old will go out on top as a Super Bowl champion. He spent the last five seasons as the backup to Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City. Before that, Henne served as the starter for the Miami Dolphins from 2009-13. Although, Henne ended up with more interceptions than touchdowns during his time as a starter. After that, Henne became a backup and wasn't really seen from 2016 until now. He helped the Chiefs secure a playoff victory over the Cleveland Browns in 2020. That is probably the moment Kansas City fans will remember from Henne's tenure with the organization.
The Kansas City Chiefs are re-signing quarterback Chad Henne to a one-year, $2 million deal on Wednesday, according to a source. It will be Henne's fifth season serving as Patrick Mahomes' backup in Kansas City. The 36-year-old has made just one start for the Chiefs and has seen action in parts of eight games in the last four seasons. The veteran signal-caller hasn't had multiple starts in a season since back in 2014 with the Jacksonville Jaguars, when he made three starts. In his time with the Chiefs, Henne has gone 41-for-57 for 359 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. The experience is nice (12 NFL seasons for three different teams), but the Chiefs offense would be in trouble if Henne is forced into action for any stretch of time.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Chad Henne is expected to remain the backup quarterback for the third straight season behind Patrick Mahomes. Henne will be entering his 12th season and his 38 pass attempts in garbage time last year were the most that he has thrown since 2014, when he threw 72 passes. Henne's experience and knowledge of the Chiefs system should secure him the backup gig, but managers should be worried with all of their Chiefs players if Henne has to start games. Henne will be competing with Jordan Ta'amu, Shane Buechele and Anthony Gordon for the No. 2 spot, but it would be an upset if he didn't win the gig.
