Indianapolis Colts running back Charcandrick West was signed off the street, and in the third preseason game against the Chicago Bears he had 13 carries for 43 yards and one touchdown. He also added a little bit in the passing game with three catches for 27 yards. With running back D'Onta Foreman being recently waived, West may have grabbed the fourth running back spot if the team decides to keep that many.
Former Kansas City Chiefs running back Charcandrick West signed with the Indianapolis Colts on Monday after they moved recently signed running back D'Onta Foreman to Injured Reserve. Behind running backs Nyheim Hines and Marlon Mack, there are some snaps available that West could capitalize on while fellow running back Jordan Wilkins is recovering from injury. West showed some flashes during his time with the Chiefs, and he will be fighting for a roster spot as camp winds down.
The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to sign free-agent running back Charcandrick West instead of C.J. Anderson, according to sources. West spent the last several seasons with the Chiefs and knows their playbook, filling the void created on the roster by Kareem Hunt. Anderson had a really good workout on Monday and could be a backup option if West doesn't work out. West has 266 carries for 999 yards (3.8 yards per carry) and seven touchdowns in the last three seasons with KC, but he'll merely be depth behind Spencer Ware, Damien Williams and rookie Darrel Williams.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers worked out free-agent running back Charcandrick West on Wednesday, according to a source. West had 18 carries for 72 yards and two touchdowns while also adding 27 receptions for 150 yards and two more scores in 2017 with the Chiefs. Tampa's running back situation hasn't looked good through four weeks with Peyton Barber, Jacquizz Rodgers and rookie Ronald Jones II. Even if West were to sign, he wouldn't be worth picking up off the waiver wire.
The New York Jets released running back Charcandrick West and place kicker Taylor Bertolet this weekend as they trimmed their final roster down to 53 players. West was just signed at the end of August. Bilal Powell, rookie Trenton Cannon and Elijah McGuire will fill in behind Isaiah Crowell in the backfield. Bertolet's release signals that Jason Myers has won the kicking job. For a Jets offense that could be inconsistent, Myers isn't worth drafting.
Charcandrick West Joins Crowded Backfield With Jets
The New York Jets signed free-agent running back Charcandrick West (Chiefs) to a contract Friday. Terms of the deal were undisclosed. He will be fighting with George Atkinson, Trenton Cannon, Elijah McGuire and Thomas Rawls for touches behind Isaiah Crowell and Bilal Powell. Landing with Gang Green isn't a great situation for West's immediate fantasy outlook, so leave him to the waiver wire for now. His arrival with the Jets might spell the end of the brief tenure of Rawls in New York. He was already believed to be on the roster bubble prior to West's arrival. The top two tailbacks for fantasy purposes are obviously Crowell and Powell.
Kansas City Chiefs running back Charcandrick West could be cut in training camp, in the opinion of the Kansas City Star's Brooke Pryor. With the addition of Damien Williams, West could be the odd man out with Spencer Ware back healthy. West had only 18 rushing attempts for 72 yards and two touchdowns last year in 13 games, and that was with Ware injured. You can ignore him in fantasy drafts.
Kansas City Chiefs running back Charcandrick West (illness), who missed the Week 17 game, is practicing in full Tuesday. The Chiefs likely held West out in a meaningless game against the Broncos, and it looks like he's back on track to return as Kareem Hunt's backup for the Wild-Card round this weekend against the Titans. With Hunt being the workhorse back, West will not have fantasy appeal if he's back.
Kansas City Chiefs running back Charcandrick West (illness) has been ruled out for Week 17 against the Broncos. With Kansas City expected to rest most of their starters in a meaningless game, including running back Kareem Hunt, West would've been in line for a significant boost in carries against Denver. As a result, Akeem Hunt may now see the most action in the regular season finale, although against a solid Denver run defense, Akeem Hunt won't be more than an RB3/flex consideration in deeper leagues. It'll be hard to trust anyone from the Chiefs offense with something on the line this weekend.
Charcandrick West, Akeem Hunt Questionable Against Broncos
Kansas City Chiefs running backs Charcandrick West (illness) and Akeem Hunt (shoulder) are both being listed as questionable for Week 17 against the Broncos. West didn't practice Thursday or Friday, so his availability is seriously in doubt. With starter Kareem Hunt not likely to play much in this meaningless game, West would be in line for a substantial uptick in touches, but his status is a risky one for fantasy owners, and Hunt, who practiced in full all week, could be the back to own in Week 17. Still, both West and Akeem Hunt are shaky RB3/flex choices for the desperate this weekend. With quarterback Alex Smith sitting out entirely and most of the other skill players on offense resting, the Chiefs offense will be one to avoid from a fantasy perspective.
