Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Charles Johnson is on the outside looking in for a roster spot in 2019. Johnson excelled in the AAF as part of the Orlando Apollos and looked promising on the Vikings in 2014, but he's already 30 and buried on the depth chart. Behind at least Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson, Nelson Agholor, and rookie J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, Johnson will have to beat out Mack Hollins, Braxton Miller, and several others to earn a spot on the 53-man roster.
The Philadelphia Eagles signed free-agent wide receiver Charles Johnson to an undisclosed one-year deal on Tuesday. Johnson led the Alliance of American Football league in receiving with 687 yards and five touchdowns on 45 catches in eight games with the Orlando Apollos. The Eagles also signed quarterback Luis Perez and receiver Greg Ward to one-year deals from the now-defunct AAF. Johnson had his best year in 2014 with Minnesota, catching 31 passes for 475 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games. He's a long shot to return any kind of fantasy relevant numbers in Philly, assuming he even makes the team.
The New York Jets signed free-agent wide receiver Charles Johnson on Tuesday. He was released by the Panthers on July 25 of last year after having surgery on his right knee. He had 60 catches for 834 yards (13.9 yards per catch) in three years with the Vikings from 2014 to 2016. It'll be hard for Johnson to carve out a role behind the likes of Robby Anderson, Quincy Enunwa, Jermaine Kearse and Terrelle Pryor, so fantasy owners can ignore Johnson to begin the season. The Jets are also unsettled at quarterback, making Johnson a long shot to make any noise in 2018.
Free-agent wide receiver Charles Johnson has made a visit with the New York Jets. Johnson didn't play in 2017 due to a knee injury and quickly fell off the map after catching 31 passes for 475 yards and two scores in his rookie season with the Vikings. It just shows you how desperate the Jets are for pass-catching help heading into 2018. Johnson is unlikely to make an impact in fantasy leagues if he lands with the Jets.
