Christian Wilkins Released by Raiders

Las Vegas Raiders defensive tackle Christian Wilkins (foot) has been released by the team, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. It's a shocking turn of events for the 29-year-old, who signed a long-term deal with Las Vegas worth over $100M in March 2024. Wilkins played 51 straight games for the Miami Dolphins from 2021 to 2023, but injuries limited him to just five appearances for the Raiders in 2024. Rapoport reports that Wilkins and the team disagree about how to treat his ongoing foot injury, with Wilkins preferring rehab and the Raiders pushing for surgery. When he's on the field, Wilkins is a difference-maker on the interior. He recorded nine sacks, 10 TFLs, and 23 QB hits in 2023. His health is a limiting factor, but Wilkins will surely have a chance to latch on somewhere else and prove he can still contribute.

Raiders Put Christian Wilkins on PUP List

The Las Vegas Raiders placed defensive tackle Christian Wilkins (foot) on the Physically Unable to Perform list on Friday. Wilkins suffered a foot injury in Week 5 of last year against the Denver Broncos and didn't play the rest of the season. The 29-year-old also didn't take part in minicamp this offseason, and now he won't be ready for the start of training camp. The former 13th overall pick by the Miami Dolphins in the 2019 NFL draft out of Clemson spent the first five years of his NFL career in South Beach before joining the Raiders last year. In his five games played in 2024, Wilkins had 17 tackles (11 solo) and two sacks before his foot injury. When healthy, Wilkins has been a reliable run-stuffer in his time in the NFL. However, he'll turn 30 in December and might be in danger of missing the start of the regular season if he can't get on the field soon.

Christian Wilkins Absent at Minicamp

Las Vegas Raiders defensive tackle Christian Wilkins (foot) was absent for all three days of mandatory minicamp as he continues to recover from a Jones fracture in his foot that limited him to five games in his first year with the team in 2024. Wilkins was seen at OTAs in May but didn't have a helmet and didn't participate in any drills on the field. The Raiders have been cautiously optimistic about the 29-year-old, but head coach Pete Carroll also said that the rehab process has been "long and challenging." Wilkins' status for training camp this summer remains up in the air, according to ESPN's Ryan McFadden. For now, the team will turn to Adam Butler and Leki Fotu in the trenches on the defensive line, but having Wilkins healthy would be a major boost with both edge rushers Maxx Crosby and Malcolm Koonce returning to full health.

Malcolm Koonce Returns to Practice, Christian Wilkins Still Out

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Malcolm Koonce (knee) returned to practice at voluntary organized team activities on Thursday, an important step in his recovery from the torn ACL that caused him to miss all of the 2024 season. In his return to practice on Thursday, Koonce was primarily limited to individual drills. Meanwhile, defensive tackle Christian Wilkins (foot) didn't practice on Thursday as he continues to rehab from a Jones fracture he suffered last October. It's unlikely that Wilkins will make an appearance on the field before training camp. The Raiders are hoping that Koonce can be one of their most effective edge rushers in 2025 opposite All-Pro Maxx Crosby. The 26-year-old former third-rounder (79th overall) in 2021 out of Buffalo had 43 tackles (32 solo), eight sacks, nine tackles for loss, 17 QB hits and three forced fumbles in 17 games (11 starts) in 2023.

Christian Wilkins Should Be Ready by August

Las Vegas Raiders defensive tackle Christian Wilkins (foot) is currently working his way back from a fractured foot he suffered last season. The injury limited Wilkins to five games, but Wilkins is hopeful to get in a full season in 2025. The organization is aware that this is a significant injury and they plan to continue being careful with Wilkins. The Raiders believe that Wilkins should be ready to resume practicing in August. Wilkins is in the second year of a four year deal that included over $80 million in guaranteed money. That being said, the Raiders have a lot invested in Wilkins and are hopeful he can be a difference maker on defense once he's back to full strength.

Christian Wilkins Out Indefinitely After Having Surgery

Las Vegas Raiders star defensive tackle Christian Wilkins (foot) is out indefinitely after having surgery to fix a Jones fracture in his foot that he suffered in the Week 5 loss to the division-rival Denver Broncos, according to sources. It's a huge blow in the middle of the Raiders' defense after they signed him to a big-money deal in free agency in the offseason. Wilkins will head to Injured Reserve and miss at least the next four games, and likely more. The 28-year-old former 13th overall pick by the Miami Dolphins in 2019 out of Clemson had 17 tackles (11 solo), two sacks and six QB hits in his five games with the Raiders this year before getting hurt. A Raiders defense that had already been vulnerable on the ground will now be a much better matchup for opposing running backs. Expect Adam Butler and John Jenkins to see more action at D tackle with Wilkins out for the foreseeable future in Vegas.

Christian Wilkins Ruled Out For Remainder Of Week 5

Las Vegas Raiders defensive tackle Christian Wilkins (foot) won't return to Sunday's matchup with the Broncos. Vegas was fortunate to get Maxx Crosby (ankle) back for this one. However, the team lost Wilkins for the second half. The 28-year-old had a fantastic showing in his limited time on the field, ending the day with five tackles and a sack. If he can't get on the field for the Week 6 meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Vegas could turn to Adam Butler to fill the void.

Christian Wilkins Expected To Suit Up

Las Vegas Raiders defensive tackle Christian Wilkins (knee) is expected to play during Sunday's Week 3 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. Wilkins has been limited in practice all week due to a knee issue he picked up last week. The former first-round pick signed a hefty contract with the Raiders over the offseason. Wilkins and Maxx Crosby (ankle) are expected to dominate this defensive line. Wilkins is still seeking his first sack as a Raider, but has nine tackles through the first two games. The absence of either Wilkins or Crosby would be a significant blow to this d-line.

Christian Wilkins Signing With Raiders On $110 Million Deal

The Las Vegas Raiders are signing free-agent defensive tackle Christian Wilkins to a four-year, $110 million deal that includes $84.75 million in guarantees. Wilkins became the top free-agent interior defensive lineman on the market after Chris Jones and Justin Madubuike reached extensions with the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens, respectively. The 26-year-old posted a career-high nine sacks in 2023, and he'll now join forces will All-Pro edge rusher Maxx Crosby in the Sin City. Expect Raiders opponents to be under pressure in 2024.

Dolphins Won't Franchise Tag Christian Wilkins

The Miami Dolphins won't use the franchise tag on standout defensive tackle Christian Wilkins this offseason, according to sources, meaning the long-time pillar of Miami's defense will become a free agent next week. Regardless of position, Wilkins will be one of the top free agents available on the open market after recording 65 tackles (38 solo), a career-high nine sacks, 10 tackles for loss, 23 QB hits, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries in 17 regular-season starts in 2023, his fifth season in Miami. The 28-year-old pass-rusher could still re-sign with the Dolphins, but they are going to face plenty of competition for his services. On top of being a strong pass-rush presence, Wilkins is also consistent as a run-stopper, making him even more attractive.
