Clayton Thorson suffers concussion, Giants sign Brian Lewerke
New York Giants quarterback Clayton Thorson (head) sustained a concussion during Saturday's 12-7 preseason loss to the New York Jets. He completed 5-of-16 passes for 72 yards and a touchdown before getting injured. The 25-year-old will miss time and is considered day-to-day. Free-agent quarterback Brian Lewerke signed with the Giants on Sunday and will take Thorson's place. The 24-year-old will compete for the Giants' third-string quarterback role and is expected to see some snaps under center in New York's next preseason game against the Cleveland Browns. Daniel Jones and Mike Glennon are currently the top two signal-callers on the Giants QB depth chart; Lewerke will have to impress in training camp to secure a roster spot as the team's third quarterback.
Clayton Thorson Closes Out the Preseason for the Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Clayton Thorson led the Eagles to a shutout on Thursday, completing 12 of his 26 passes for 84 scoreless yards. He threw an interception and ran the ball twice for two yards. Thorson is clearly far behind veteran backup Josh McCown but the fifth-round rookie should stick on the Philly roster, either as a weekly inactive third QB or on the practice squad.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Clayton Thorson played most of Thursday night's preseason game. He completed 16-of-26 passes for 175 yards. He threw a touchdown and an interception. Thorson also recorded three carries, but lost three yards on the ground. The fifth-rounder out of Northwestern got a chance to show what he could do and looked decent against the Jaguars defense. With two backup quarterbacks out due to injuries, Thorson could end up opening the season as the number two signal caller on the Eagles roster.
