Brian Lewerke Fantasy Stats

New York Giants quarterback Clayton Thorson (head) sustained a concussion during Saturday's 12-7 preseason loss to the New York Jets. He completed 5-of-16 passes for 72 yards and a touchdown before getting injured. The 25-year-old will miss time and is considered day-to-day. Free-agent quarterback Brian Lewerke signed with the Giants on Sunday and will take Thorson's place. The 24-year-old will compete for the Giants' third-string quarterback role and is expected to see some snaps under center in New York's next preseason game against the Cleveland Browns. Daniel Jones and Mike Glennon are currently the top two signal-callers on the Giants QB depth chart; Lewerke will have to impress in training camp to secure a roster spot as the team's third quarterback.

The New England Patriots waited until after the 2020 NFL Draft to pick up another quarterback. The Pats have signed undrafted Michigan State quarterback Brian Lewerke. His senior season who threw for 3,079 passing yards with 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He was a three year starter at Michigan State, but is a developmental project for New England. The Pats also brought in undrafted Louisiana Tech quarterback J'mar Smith as depth. However,Jarrett Stidham and veteran Brian Hoyer are expected to be above both of them on the depth chart. It sounds like Lewerke and Smith will be competing for a spot on the team in training camp.
