Eli Raridon in Line for "Meaningful" Role as a Rookie

New England Patriots rookie tight end Eli Raridon is "set for a meaningful role" as the team's number two tight end option behind veteran Hunter Henry, according to Chad Graff of The Athletic. A third-round pick out of Notre Dame, Raridon recorded 32 catches for 482 yards across 12 games with the Fighting Irish in 2025. At the time he was drafted, Raridon looked like the third tight end on the Patriots' depth chart. However, a season-ending knee injury for tight end Julian Hill (knee) has pushed Raridon into a more prominent role. While Henry profiles as New England's clear top receiving option at the position, he's entering his age-32 season. Particularly in dynasty formats, Raridon's stock is rising ahead of his rookie year.

TreVeyon Henderson Could Be Headed for 50-50 Backfield Split

New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson could be headed for a fairly even workload split with Rhamondre Stevenson in 2026. Chad Graff of The Athletic believes the backfield may settle close to 50-50, with Stevenson handling more early-down and short-yardage work while Henderson is used to create explosive plays. Pass protection remains the biggest thing standing between Henderson and more obvious passing-down work. His issues in blitz pickup limited him in those situations as a rookie, even though he still led New England with 215 touches, 1,132 scrimmage yards and 10 total touchdowns. Stevenson took back the lead role during the postseason, playing 70.1% of the offensive snaps compared to Henderson's 31.4%. The Patriots also currently list Stevenson first on their unofficial depth chart. Henderson should still have plenty of opportunities in Year 2, but this looks much more like a two-back approach than a full takeover.

Drake Maye Taking Advantage of Surrounding Talent

As a rookie in 2024, New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye threw to a group of receivers consisting of Kendrick Bourne, K.J. Osborn, and the recently retired Ja'Lynn Polk. Just two short years later, his receiver room has transformed into one of the strongest in the league, and in the team's first practice since a preseason opening tie with the Colts, his pass-catchers were putting on a show. In a Saturday session working primarily out of the low red zone, Maye went 10-of-16, while receivers A.J. Brown, Romeo Doubs, Mack Hollins, and Kyle Williams combined for seven touchdown grabs. Tight end Hunter Henry added two of his own, while Kayshon Boutte continued to make highlight plays, as he has throughout training camp. Maye was the MVP runner-up and the fantasy QB2 in 2025, and in an offense that by most accounts has gotten significantly better in its second season under Josh McDaniels, he's now being drafted as a top-three quarterback and could realistically push for an overall QB1 finish.

TreVeyon Henderson Deployed in Rotational Role in the Red Zone

The New England Patriots put in heavy work out of the short area of the field over the weekend, and in all low red zone periods, second-year running back TreVeyon Henderson was the second back to see work with the first-team offense, rotating in behind veteran Rhamondre Stevenson. Neither back played in Thursday's preseason opener, but they both took carries in Saturday's red zone sessions, working behind fullback Reggie Gilliam, who was signed in free agency and should help a Patriots' rushing attack that too frequently came up short in critical situations in 2025. As a rookie, Henderson led the team in red zone opportunities, and he found some success as both a runner and receiver. However, with few signs throughout training camp that he's set for an expanded role in year two, another split with Stevenson is likely in 2026. With a current ADP of RB24, drafters are betting on upside and an eventual backfield takeover, but even in what projects to be a high-powered offense, there could again be early-season frustrations.

Rhamondre Stevenson Sees First-Team Reps in Red Zone

The New England Patriots spent Sunday's walkthrough practice in T-shirts and bucket hats, but in their latest competitive session on Saturday, the team worked heavily out of the low red zone, and it was veteran running back Rhamondre Stevenson who led off all periods with the first-team offense. Second-year player TreVeyon Henderson, who actually led the Patriots in red zone carries as a rookie, rotated in, and both backs took carries behind fullback Reggie Gilliam. Stevenson and Henderson each scored five rushing touchdowns from within the 10-yard line in 2025, and they project to see another fairly even split, though they could both see their efficiency rise in that area of the field with Gilliam ahead of them. Stevenson is RotoBaller's RB26 and a player who should add significant value from the middle rounds of drafts with his underrated work in the receiving game and his share of high-value touches near the goal line.

Romeo Doubs Ascending at Patriots Practice

New England Patriots wide receiver Romeo Doubs has risen during training camp and delivered a stellar practice on Saturday. Doubs caught three touchdown passes in Saturday's practice and has had his best practices over the past week. Head coach Mike Vrabel said that Doubs is "trending in the right direction. I think he found where Rome can really help us -- be big, fast and aggressive." The former Green Bay Packers wideout had 55 receptions for 724 yards and six touchdowns last season, playing as a primary X receiver under Matt LaFleur. Now in New England, Doubs is expected to move around much more and, hopefully, be a key outside playmaker alongside former Philadelphia Eagles wideout A.J. Brown. Ranked WR54 in RotoBaller's positional rankings, Doubs looks like a potential steal at his current value in a new situation.

Kyle Williams' Stock Rising with His Upside on Display

With the benefit of time and film study to reflect on the New England Patriots' preseason opening tie with the Colts, ESPN's Mike Reiss has labeled second-year wide receiver Kyle Williams as one of his three offensive risers, along with third-string quarterback Behren Morton and potential third running back Jam Miller. Williams got into his deep bag of releases, showcasing a slick crossover move on his 12-yard touchdown grab and offering a glimpse of the upside he can provide when pairing the full package with his impressive straight-line speed. While Reiss points out that it wasn't all perfect for the 2025 third-round pick, Williams will have the opportunity to further hone his skills against one of the league's best secondaries when the Patriots meet up with the Eagles for joint practices later in the week. Quietly putting together an impressive camp of late, Williams is making a case for an expanded role in a receiver room not lacking talent.

A.J. Brown Has Been "Nearly Unstoppable" at Patriots Practice

The New England Patriots sent a first- and fifth-round pick to acquire three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles in early May, and as he continues to acclimate to his new surroundings, he has gotten better and better throughout the summer, impressing team reporter Paul Perillo with the suddenness of his routes. During Saturday's practice, he separated quickly during goal-line work for what looked to be an easy score, and Perillo noted that he has "been nearly unstoppable running slants from various positions on the field." With free agent acquisition Romeo Doubs also coming on of late, expectations continue to rise for the Patriots' passing offense, but as the regular season edges closer, there's been little doubt about who Drake Maye's go-to receiver will be in 2026, and Brown is RotoBaller's WR9.

Mike Vrabel Impressed By Eli Raridon's Improvement as a Blocker

New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel is impressed with rookie tight end Eli Raridon's improvement as a blocker, according to Patriots beat reporter Taylor Kyles. Raridon continues to have an impressive training camp and was taking snaps with the first-team offense. The Patriots selected Raridon in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft and is set to be New England's No. 2 tight end behind Hunter Henry. The 22-year-old has shown flashes in camp and could be a key contributor this season. Henry did sign a two-year extension with the Patriots this offseason, so dynasty managers might have to wait a few years before they see Raridon as the team's starting tight end. Raridon could force his way onto the field, and his stock in dynasty and redraft is rising as he continues to have an impressive training camp.

Romeo Doubs Scores Three Touchdowns in Saturday's Practice

New England Patriots wide receiver Romeo Doubs had a big day at Saturday's practice, catching three touchdowns, according to Doug Kyed. It continues a strong stretch for Doubs after he started camp a little slowly and then began making more plays once he settled into the offense. The Patriots currently list him with the first-team offense, and he is coming off a 2025 season in Green Bay in which he caught 55 passes for a career-high 724 yards and six touchdowns. Doubs also led the Packers with 12 receptions of 20-plus yards. New England brought him in to be a significant part of the passing game alongside A.J. Brown, and days like Saturday are a good sign that the transition is coming along. Practice touchdowns only mean so much in August, but three in one session is hard to ignore. Doubs is giving himself a chance to carry some real red-zone appeal into the regular season.

Kayshon Boutte Keeps Flashing Downfield in Camp

New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte made another big play at practice Saturday, hauling in a twirling sideline catch on a 40-yard throw while working against Carlton Davis III, according to Andrew Callahan. Boutte was quiet in Thursday's preseason opener, playing 16 offensive snaps with the backups and going without a target, but he's been much more noticeable on the practice field. He caught 33 passes for 551 yards and six touchdowns in 14 games last season, averaging 16.7 yards per catch, fifth-best in the NFL. That big-play ability has shown up again throughout camp. The problem for Boutte is still finding regular snaps in a receiver room now led by A.J. Brown, Romeo Doubs and DeMario Douglas. New England's unofficial depth chart currently lists him behind Brown. One more highlight catch doesn't change that, but Boutte keeps giving the Patriots reasons to find ways to get him on the field.

Christian Gonzalez  • CB  •  Patriots

Christian Gonzalez Working Through Ankle Injury

New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez (ankle) remains sidelined on Saturday as he works through an ankle injury, per Ben Volin of the Boston Globe. Gonzalez has established himself as one of the top corners in the NFL, earning second-team All-Pro honors in 2024 and being named to the Pro Bowl in 2025. The 24-year-old is currently agitating for a contract extension in New England, which could be factoring in to his current injury situation. Despite the injury uncertainty, all indications out of New England have been that the team expects Gonzalez to be ready for Week 1. Volin reports that Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said that the team and Gonzalez are "absolutely" on the same page. Still, Gonzalez's injury and contract situation will be something for fantasy managers to monitor as the season approaches.

Mike Vrabel Expects Christian Gonzalez to be Ready for Week 1

New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel expects star cornerback Christian Gonzalez (undisclosed) to be ready for the Week 1 regular-season opener in a Super Bowl rematch against the Seattle Seahawks, according to Chris Mason of MassLive.com. Gonzalez was not present for the team's joint practice with the Indianapolis Colts or on the sideline for their preseason opener on Thursday night against Indy as he works on a contract extension, but Vrabel suggests that's because he's dealing with a physical injury. The 24-year-old former 17th overall pick from the University of Oregon should be all healed up with a new contract in hand before the start of the 2026 regular season in early September. Going into his fourth NFL season, Gonzalez has quickly become one of the best shutdown corners in the NFL, and he had a big hand in leading the Pats to the Super Bowl last season. Gonzalez was named a Pro Bowler for the first time in 2025 and finished with a career-high 69 tackles (54 solo) and 10 pass breakups in 14 regular-season starts.

Kayshon Boutte Plays With Backups, Not Targeted in Preseason Opener

The New England Patriots held out their offensive starters in Thursday night's preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts, but wide receiver Kayshon Boutte played 16 snaps on offense. Boutte wasn't targeted at all by quarterback Tommy DeVito in the 13-13 tie against Indy. Quarterback Drake Maye and starting receivers A.J. Brown, Romeo Doubs, and DeMario Douglas were in street clothes, with Boutte, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism getting reps with the backup offense. The 24-year-old Boutte, who was a sixth-round pick in 2023 from LSU, had a career-high six touchdowns in 14 regular-season games last year, but otherwise he failed to stand out for fantasy purposes, catching 33 of 46 targets for 551 yards in his third year in the league. The offseason additions of Brown and Doubs officially put Boutte off the fantasy football radar in all single-year leagues and make him a potential trade candidate before Week 1 of the 2026 regular season. Boutte likely needs an injury or two in New England to become interesting again or a trade out of town.

Jam Miller Could Have Inside Track to Patriots' Third Running Back Spot

New England Patriots seventh-round rookie running back Jam Miller has had a relatively quiet summer, but a piece of under-the-radar news from before the Patriots' first preseason game could have him positioned to seize the team's third running back spot behind Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson. Third-year player Terrell Jennings, who by most accounts was the leading candidate to win the job, was placed on season-ending injured reserve before the Patriots' 13-13 tie with the Colts, and in starting the game and earning 55 hard yards on 14 carries, ESPN's Mike Reiss believes Miller may have shown enough to give him the inside track to the RB3 role. Second-year player Lan Larison, now the clearest competition for the job, gained only one yard on seven carries, but caught a team-leading six passes and also returned kicks, staying in the battle for what could be one of New England's final roster spots.

Jam Miller Overcomes Late-Round Draft Stock in Preseason Opener

New England Patriots running back Jam Miller rushed for 55 yards on 14 carries during Thursday's preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts. He was unable to haul in his only target. Miller was a seventh-round pick in this year's NFL Draft, but the Alabama product was quickly thrust into the mix as New England's primary ball-carrier on Thursday. He led the team in touches and was relatively efficient with 3.9 yards per carry. That falls in line with his final collegiate season at Alabama in 2025, when he averaged 3.9 yards per carry with 504 total rushing yards, 109 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. There's very little fantasy upside for Miller behind TreVeyon Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson, but he still has a decent chance to make the Patriots' 53-man roster out of camp.

Kyle Williams Opens Second Preseason with a Touchdown

New England Patriots wide receiver Kyle Williams caught two of three targets for 37 yards and a touchdown during Thursday's preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts. Williams is gearing up for a potential breakout campaign in his second NFL season, and scoring the first touchdown of the preseason is a step in the right direction. As a rookie last year, Williams caught 10 passes for 209 yards and three touchdowns. Head coach Mike Vrabel has expressed a desire to get Williams more involved in 2026, and he could come out of this preseason as high as No. 3 on the depth chart. He won't surpass AJ Brown or Romeo Doubs, but Williams could make his presence felt more than players such as DeMario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, and Mack Hollins. Williams is an intriguing low-cost target in dynasty leagues, but it's a bit too soon to snag him in most redraft formats.

Lan Larison  • RB  •  Patriots

Lan Larison Shines as Receiver in Preseason Opener

New England Patriots running back Lan Larison was stymied on the ground during Thursday's preseason opener against the Colts, rushing for just one yard on seven carries. However, he was much more productive in the passing game, catching six of his eight targets for 38 receiving yards. Larison is no stranger to producing in the preseason, and it's too early to say he's going to make the 53-man roster. With that being said, he certainly made a positive impression on the coaching staff Thursday. A 2025 undrafted free agent out of UC Davis, Larison spent his rookie season on injured reserve with a foot injury. New England's backfield is headlined by TreVeyon Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson, but we could see Larison push for a back-end roster spot if he continues to produce throughout the preseason.

Concern for Andy Borregales After Three Missed Field Goals?

New England Patriots kicker Andy Borregales went 2-for-5 on field goal attempts during Thursday's preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts. He made kicks from 40 and 52 yards. Meanwhile, his misses came from 49, 55, and 56 yards out. The Patriots and Colts ended in a 13-13 tie, so Borregales' missed kicks proved to be the difference-maker in the final score. While winning a preseason game doesn't really matter, the Patriots would have liked to see that the 23-year-old could make pivotal kicks in high-leverage scenarios. After the game, head coach Mike Vrabel expressed his disappointment, and in regard to the field goal attempts, he said that "we're expected to make them." New England doesn't have any other kickers on their roster, but we can't rule out the possibility of them bringing in a free agent, even if it's purely just to light a fire under Borregales with the regular season approaching. With that being said, this also could have just been one abnormally bad outing. Borregales was impressive as a rookie last season, going 27-for-32 on field goals and ranking as the overall K10 in fantasy football.

A.J. Brown a Top Target at Joint Practice

New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown was a top target during the team's joint practice with the Indianapolis Colts. Brown remained the top option in team drills, finding the ball early and often, and led the team with five receptions, including one that would've been a touchdown. The former Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles wideout was traded to the AFC Champions in early June and initially struggled to connect with quarterback Drake Maye. Now, both appear to be on the same page, and Brown looks poised for a massive year in New England. The seven-year wideout has had six 1,000-yard seasons and might have his best quarterback yet in Maye, while Maye has yet to play with a talent like Brown. This connection could break fantasy in 2026, and fantasy managers should look to buy into this duo.
