Christian Gonzalez Good to Go for Divisional Round

New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez (concussion) will not carry an injury designation into the weekend and is good to go for his team's Divisional Round matchup against the Houston Texans, per Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald. Gonzalez recorded 54 solo tackles and 10 passes defensed across 14 games during the regular season and was named to his first Pro Bowl. Pro Football Focus graded Gonzalez as the 43rd-best cornerback out of 114 qualified players at the position in 2025. While Gonzalez will be able to play, star Texans wideout Nico Collins (concussion) has been ruled out with a concussion of his own. As a result, Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud will be working with a shorthanded wide receiver corps against a fully-loaded Patriots secondary.

Christian Gonzalez Sheds Non-Contact Jersey

New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez (concussion) shed his non-contact jersey in practice on Thursday, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN. It suggests that Gonzalez is trending in the right direction to clear the league's concussion protocol to play on Sunday in the Divisional Round versus the visiting Houston Texans. Gonzalez could be a full participant in practice after being limited on Wednesday, but even if he is, he'd still need clearance from an independent neurologist to play on Sunday. The 23-year-old former first-rounder is one of the top cornerbacks in the league, so not having him this weekend would be a big blow to the Patriots' defense. The good news for New England is that it's looking like Houston will be without top receiver Nico Collins (concussion). If Gonzalez plays, he could be locked up against rookie wideout Jayden Higgins for most of the day. UPDATE: Gonzalez practiced in full on Thursday.

Christian Gonzalez to Practice on Wednesday

New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said that cornerback Christian Gonzalez (concussion) will be on the practice field on Wednesday, according to Andrew Callahan of The Boston Globe. "I do anticipate him being out there," Vrabel said. Gonzalez is in the league's concussion protocol after suffering a head injury in the Wild-Card win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night. The 23-year-old still needs to be cleared later this week, but he's on the right track to being able to play this Sunday in the Divisional Round against the Houston Texans. There's a good chance that Gonzalez will be limited in Wednesday's practice. Having Gonzalez active for this weekend's game would be a big boost for New England's defense and bad news for Houston's top receiver, Nico Collins. If Gonzalez cannot play, Charles Woods would likely start in his place.

Christian Gonzalez in the Concussion Protocol

New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said that cornerback Christian Gonzalez (head) is in the league's concussion protocol after getting injured in Sunday night's Wild-Card victory over the visiting Los Angeles Chargers, according to Mark Daniels of Mass Live. "How long that lasts, I don't know," Vrabel said. Gonzalez's status for the Divisional Round is now up in the air, and he'll have to pass through the NFL's five-step protocol to be cleared to play on Sunday against either the Pittsburgh Steelers or Houston Texans. New England's defense was firing on all cylinders against a banged-up Bolts offensive line on Sunday night and held the Chargers to just one field goal. If the Patriots don't have Gonzalez in the fold this weekend, though, it will be a big downgrade for their secondary against either Pittsburgh or Houston.

Christian Gonzalez Questionable to Return vs. Chargers

New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez (head) exited during the fourth quarter of Sunday's playoff contest against the Los Angeles Chargers. He is officially listed as questionable to return. Gonzalez left the game after breaking up a pass attempt on second down. At the time of his departure, he had defended two passes. The 23-year-old didn't record an interception during the regular season, but he was named to the AFC Pro Bowl roster and is consistently relied upon to cover opponents' No. 1 receivers. His absence will be something to monitor as the Patriots look to defend a three-pronged wide receiver room featuring Ladd McConkey, Keenan Allen, and Quentin Johnston. Charles Woods should earn more cornerback snaps behind Carlton Davis and Marcus Jones.

Christian Gonzalez Questionable to Return with Head Injury

New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez (head) exited during the fourth quarter of Sunday's Week 9 contest against the Atlanta Falcons. He is officially listed as questionable to return. He had seven tackles and two passes defended at the time of his departure. The 23-year-old is regarded as one of the league's top cornerbacks, but he had a rough time covering Drake London on Sunday. Before Gonzalez left due to injury, London had tallied six catches, 75 yards, and two touchdowns while being covered by a combination of Gonzalez and Marcus Jones. Until Gonzalez can return, Jones and Carlton Davis III will operate as the Patriots' top cornerbacks.

Christian Gonzalez Active for Patriots Defense in Week 6

New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez (hamstring) is officially active for the Week 6 game on the road in New Orleans against the Saints on Sunday. Gonzalez will play despite being listed as questionable on Friday's final injury report. The Patriots will also have linebacker Marte Mapu (hamstring, neck), defensive tackle Milton Williams (ankle, illness), and cornerback Charles Woods (knee) are all active after being listed as questionable coming into Sunday's game. The 23-year-old Gonzalez missed the first three weeks of the season with a hamstring injury, so it will be something to watch for in Sunday's game. The former first-rounder's presence in New England's secondary will make life more difficult for quarterback Spencer Rattler and the Saints' offense. The Pats' defense/special teams unit should be a popular streamer this weekend.

Christian Gonzalez Making Season Debut in Week 4

New England Patriots top cornerback Christian Gonzalez (hamstring) is inactive for the first time this year in the Week 4 matchup against the visiting Carolina Panthers. It's a big upgrade for the Patriots' defense as they look to slow down a Carolina offense that put up a 30-spot in a surprising Week 3 shutout of the Atlanta Falcons. The 23-year-old's return is definitely bad news for Panthers quarterback Bryce Young and rookie receiver Tetairoa McMillan, but it's also possible that his snaps will be limited after missing the first three weeks of the 2025 season. Fantasy managers in deep IDP formats should probably leave Gonzalez on their benches in his season debut.

Christian Gonzalez Expected to Play Against Panthers

New England Patriots star cornerback Christian Gonzalez (hamstring) is expected to return in Week 4 against the Carolina Panthers. Gonzalez was limited in practice all week, but the team anticipates having their lockdown corner back on the field Sunday. New England's secondary has struggled without him, giving up the fourth-most fantasy points to wide receivers through three weeks. Gonzalez's return should help stabilize the unit, especially if he's matched up against rookie wideout Tetairoa McMillan, who has posted 216 yards on 14 receptions but is also questionable with a calf injury. Even if McMillan suits up, this could be a difficult matchup for the rookie against one of the league's top young corners.

Patriots Rule Out Christian Gonzalez in Week 1

New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has ruled out cornerback Christian Gonzalez (hamstring) for the Week 1 regular-season opener on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN. Additionally, left tackle Will Campbell (ankle) is questionable. Gonzalez was not able to practice at all this week and could also be in danger of missing the Week 2 tilt on the road against the division-rival Miami Dolphins unless he can get back on the practice field next week. As a leader of the secondary in New England, not having the 23-year-old former first-rounder will definitely be a downgrade for the Pats defense this weekend as they look to slow down Raiders quarterback Geno Smith and their new-look offense. One of Alex Austin, Marcus Jones or DJ James will step in to start for Gonzalez across from Carlton Davis.
