Christian Gonzalez Questionable to Return with Head Injury

New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez (head) exited during the fourth quarter of Sunday's Week 9 contest against the Atlanta Falcons. He is officially listed as questionable to return. He had seven tackles and two passes defended at the time of his departure. The 23-year-old is regarded as one of the league's top cornerbacks, but he had a rough time covering Drake London on Sunday. Before Gonzalez left due to injury, London had tallied six catches, 75 yards, and two touchdowns while being covered by a combination of Gonzalez and Marcus Jones. Until Gonzalez can return, Jones and Carlton Davis III will operate as the Patriots' top cornerbacks.

Christian Gonzalez Active for Patriots Defense in Week 6

New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez (hamstring) is officially active for the Week 6 game on the road in New Orleans against the Saints on Sunday. Gonzalez will play despite being listed as questionable on Friday's final injury report. The Patriots will also have linebacker Marte Mapu (hamstring, neck), defensive tackle Milton Williams (ankle, illness), and cornerback Charles Woods (knee) are all active after being listed as questionable coming into Sunday's game. The 23-year-old Gonzalez missed the first three weeks of the season with a hamstring injury, so it will be something to watch for in Sunday's game. The former first-rounder's presence in New England's secondary will make life more difficult for quarterback Spencer Rattler and the Saints' offense. The Pats' defense/special teams unit should be a popular streamer this weekend.

Christian Gonzalez Making Season Debut in Week 4

New England Patriots top cornerback Christian Gonzalez (hamstring) is inactive for the first time this year in the Week 4 matchup against the visiting Carolina Panthers. It's a big upgrade for the Patriots' defense as they look to slow down a Carolina offense that put up a 30-spot in a surprising Week 3 shutout of the Atlanta Falcons. The 23-year-old's return is definitely bad news for Panthers quarterback Bryce Young and rookie receiver Tetairoa McMillan, but it's also possible that his snaps will be limited after missing the first three weeks of the 2025 season. Fantasy managers in deep IDP formats should probably leave Gonzalez on their benches in his season debut.

Christian Gonzalez Expected to Play Against Panthers

New England Patriots star cornerback Christian Gonzalez (hamstring) is expected to return in Week 4 against the Carolina Panthers. Gonzalez was limited in practice all week, but the team anticipates having their lockdown corner back on the field Sunday. New England's secondary has struggled without him, giving up the fourth-most fantasy points to wide receivers through three weeks. Gonzalez's return should help stabilize the unit, especially if he's matched up against rookie wideout Tetairoa McMillan, who has posted 216 yards on 14 receptions but is also questionable with a calf injury. Even if McMillan suits up, this could be a difficult matchup for the rookie against one of the league's top young corners.

Patriots Rule Out Christian Gonzalez in Week 1

New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has ruled out cornerback Christian Gonzalez (hamstring) for the Week 1 regular-season opener on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN. Additionally, left tackle Will Campbell (ankle) is questionable. Gonzalez was not able to practice at all this week and could also be in danger of missing the Week 2 tilt on the road against the division-rival Miami Dolphins unless he can get back on the practice field next week. As a leader of the secondary in New England, not having the 23-year-old former first-rounder will definitely be a downgrade for the Pats defense this weekend as they look to slow down Raiders quarterback Geno Smith and their new-look offense. One of Alex Austin, Marcus Jones or DJ James will step in to start for Gonzalez across from Carlton Davis.

Christian Gonzalez Still Not Practicing

New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez (hamstring) remains out of practice on Thursday, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN. Gonzalez's continued absenc puts his status for the season opener on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders in more doubt. If Gonzalez does not play in Week 1, which is becoming more and more likely, Alex Austin, Marcus Jones and D.J. James are the candidates to start across from Carlton Davis III in New England's secondary. Gonzalez is the team's top cornerback, so not having him available to kick off the season wouldn't be ideal for the Pats as they look to slow down the Raiders' new look offense, which will be led by veteran quarterback Geno Smith.

Christian Gonzalez Not Practicing on Monday

New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel indicated that cornerback Christian Gonzalez (hamstring) would not practice on Monday, which is not the best sign for his availability in the Week 1 regular-season opener this Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, per Karen Guregian of Mass Live. We definitely aren't expecting Gonzalez to play in the season opener since he has not practiced at all ince injuring his hamstring in training camp in late July. Not having the former first-rounder in their secondary will surely be a hit to New England's defense against a new-look Raiders offense featuring quarterback Geno Smith and rookie first-round running back Ashton Jeanty. It's unclear who would start in Gonzalez's place this weekend if he's inactive, with Charles Woods, Alex Austin and Marcus Jones being the candidates across from Carlton Davis.

Christian Gonzalez Still Not Practicing

New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez (hamstring) missed practice on Thursday, Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports. Gonzalez hasn't practiced since he injured his left hamstring on July 28, nor did he play in any of the team's three preseason games. It's unclear if he'll be ready to return when the Patriots get back on the field on Monday to prepare for their Week 1 showdown with the Las Vegas Raiders on Sept. 7. Since going 17th overall in the 2023 draft, the former Oregon Duck has emerged as an important cog in the Patriots' defense. He appeared in 16 games last year and totaled 59 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and a pair of interceptions. If Gonzalez is unable to suit up on Sept. 7, it would bode well for the Raiders' Geno Smith-led passing attack.

Christian Gonzalez Won't Practice this Week

New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez (hamstring) won't practice this week, according to head coach Mike Vrabel. Gonzalez injured his hamstring last Tuesday during practice and has not practiced since. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Gonzalez's injury is not expected his prevent him from playing in Week 1. Gonzalez is an emerging star at the cornerback position and will be a major piece of the New England defense this season, so the team will continue to play it safe with him in training camp.

Christian Gonzalez Still Nursing Hamstring Injury

New England Patriots All-Pro cornerback Christian Gonzalez (hamstring) continues to sit out practice with a hamstring injury he suffered on Monday. While it's likely that he will be back for week 1 as of now, he would undoubtedly be missed if the injury lingers beyond that. Gonzalez has been a bright spot for the Patriots and ranked 21st out of 222 cornerbacks with a 76.0 PFF grade. With the Patriots' defensive backs seemingly banged up to start camp, they will focus on guaranteeing a healthy Gonzalez when the season starts against the revamped Raiders offense in the early game window on September 7.
