DeMario Douglas the Star of Patriots Scrimmage

The New England Patriots held their second annual Blue and White team scrimmage under head coach Mike Vrabel on Friday, and the standout performer, according to senior reporter Evan Lazar, was wide receiver DeMario Douglas. The fourth-year player has earned praise from the local beat for running an expanded route tree throughout training camp, and that work paid off under game conditions, with Lazar noting that he made catches at all three levels of the field, including a deep ball in an end-of-game scenario and a touchdown from Tommy DeVito. Douglas saw only a 26% snap share in 2025 but has been operating as the primary slot receiver with the first-team offense and should see an uptick in usage in a role that has had some notable success in Josh McDaniels' offense. Falling outside of RotoBaller's top 300, Douglas is going largely undrafted in most single-season formats, but a strong training camp could lead to an increased role and occasional fantasy viability in 2026.

DeMario Douglas Seeing Expanded Route Tree

New England Patriots wide receiver DeMario Douglas is seeing his usage and route tree expanded during training camp compared with recent seasons, according to the Boston Herald. Douglas caught 31 passes for 447 yards and three touchdowns across 17 games in 2025, averaging a career-high 14.4 yards per reception. New England already pushed him farther downfield last season, when he averaged a career-high 9.7 air yards per target and tied his career best with four deep receptions. The latest camp usage suggests the Patriots are continuing to explore ways to deploy Douglas beyond a traditional underneath slot role. A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs project as the top two receivers, while Douglas is competing with Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, and Kyle Williams for snaps in three-receiver sets. The broader route tree improves Douglas' path to staying involved, but his fantasy value will still depend on whether the expanded responsibilities lead to consistent playing time and targets.

DeMario Douglas Working With Patriots' First-Team Offense

New England Patriots wide receiver DeMario Douglas worked with the first-team offense during Monday's training camp walkthrough, according to the Boston Herald. The fourth-year receiver also opened camp working from the slot alongside A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs in 11-personnel groupings, giving him an early opportunity to remain involved despite New England's deeper receiving corps. Douglas caught 31 passes for 447 yards and three touchdowns across 17 games in 2025, averaging a career-high 14.4 yards per reception while making no starts and serving mainly as a rotational slot receiver. Brown and Doubs project as the top two options, leaving Douglas to compete with Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism III for snaps in three-receiver sets. His first-team work is encouraging, but Monday's session was a walkthrough and the Patriots are still evaluating combinations. Douglas is worth monitoring in deeper formats, though he will need to maintain his role once practices become more competitive before fantasy managers can expect consistent targets.

DeMario Douglas Could Still Struggle to Find a Reliable Role in 2026

New England Patriots wide receiver DeMario Douglas has routinely provided a spark out of the slot, averaging more than 6.2 yards after catch per reception through his first three years in the league, but his waning usage in 2025 led to career lows of 447 yards on only 31 receptions. The arrival of Josh McDaniels as offensive coordinator had many calling for a modest breakout based on the past success of slot receivers Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, and Wes Welker in his system, but with the Patriots opting for a bigger, more physical style of play, Douglas often ceded slot work to the 6'4", 221-pound Mack Hollins and saw a sub-30% snap share in 14 of 17 games. McDaniels has spoken about wanting to get Douglas more involved, but most of the moves made by New England this offseason suggest a path toward even more heavy personnel usage, with Douglas now buried on a depth chart topped by new additions A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs. Douglas will continue to have his moments in McDaniels' game plan-specific offense, but outside of RotoBaller's top 300, he is not a player who can be trusted in 2026 fantasy leagues, other than deep best-ball formats.

A Playing-Time Blockage Could Make DeMario Douglas a Dynasty Drop Candidate

New England Patriots wide receiver DeMario Douglas has been an exciting young playmaker when given opportunities through his first three seasons in the league, but a lack of playing time has severely limited his fantasy upside, and nothing about his situation appears to be improving heading into Year 4. After seeing a season-high 63% snap share in a Week 1 loss to the Raiders, Douglas did not top 40% for the rest of the year. The Patriots essentially swapped Stefon Diggs for Romeo Doubs this offseason, which, in theory, should open up more snaps out of the slot, but with the team making significant additions to the tight end and fullback positions, the expectation is that a team that already deployed three-receiver sets at less than a 50% rate in 2025 could trend to even more heavy personnel usage. With New England guaranteeing $35 million to Doubs at signing and still the clear frontrunner to land A.J. Brown after June 1st, Douglas' role could be limited to specific and infrequently used packages in 2026. At RotoBaller's WR125, he still has a place in best ball dynasty leagues, with Josh McDaniels' game-plan-specific offense ever capable of scheming up unexpected matchups, but trying to predict those matchups makes him borderline droppable in all but the deepest lineup leagues.

DeMario Douglas in Limited Role Heading into Contract Year

New England Patriots wide receiver DeMario Douglas had a disappointing third year in the NFL, even though his team advanced all the way to the Super Bowl. The 25-year-old pass-catcher had career lows in catches (31), targets (46), and receiving yards (447) while scoring just three touchdowns for the second straight season in 17 regular-season games. Quarterback Drake Maye was in the running for MVP honors in his second season, but Douglas just couldn't stand out in a crowded receiving corps that also included Stefon Diggs, Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, and rookie Kyle Williams. His 447 receiving yards were fifth on the team, and he added seven carries for 21 yards on the ground. Douglas will be in a contract year in 2026, but with all of the above-mentioned receivers returning to New England, it's hard to envision Douglas becoming a strong weekly fantasy football option.

DeMario Douglas has Low Floor Against Strong Broncos Defense

New England Patriots wide receiver DeMario Douglas scored in the Divisional Round win over the Houston Texans last weekend, but he had only two catches and 36 yards otherwise. Douglas never had more than four catches in a single game during the regular season, and he hasn't caught more than two passes in a contest since the Dec. 1 win over the New York Giants. The 25-year-old had a total of 31 receptions (46 targets) for 447 yards and three touchdowns in 17 regular-season games. Douglas finished fifth on the team among receivers in last Sunday's win with just 17 snaps on offense. He has played over 34% of the snaps in a game just once, and that was all the way back in Week 1. With Douglas not seeing the field much and quarterback Drake Maye spreading targets around, it seems unlikely that Douglas will have breakout potential in the AFC Championship against a Denver Broncos team that allowed the fifth-fewest half-PPR points per game to WRs. During the regular season, Douglas averaged just 5.0 half-PPR points per game.

DeMario Douglas Could See Larger Role in AFC Championship Game

New England Patriots wide receiver DeMario Douglas was one of the stars of his team's AFC Divisional Round victory over the Houston Texans, hauling in two receptions for 36 yards and a touchdown on two targets. Douglas remains largely limited to a part-time role in New England. He's played fewer than 33% of the Patriots' offensive snaps in each of the team's two postseason games and averaged just 2.7 targets per contest during the regular season. New England is now preparing to face the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game. Denver fields one of the NFL's most fearsome pass rushes, as they finished the regular season ranked first in the league in sacks (68). With Patriots quarterback Drake Maye struggling to protect the football so far in the playoffs, New England could be looking for Maye to get the ball out of his hands quickly against the Broncos. Douglas is at his most effective as a short-area route runner, so he could be in position to have his second-straight productive outing in the AFC Championship Game.

Can DeMario Douglas Find the End Zone in Back-to-Back Weeks?

New England Patriots wide receiver DeMario Douglas caught both of his targets for 36 yards and a touchdown in the Divisional Round win versus the Houston Texans last weekend. The touchdown was just Douglas' fourth of the year, and his first since a win over the Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 2. Fantasy managers might want to pump the brakes on thinking that the 25-year-old wideout will be able to find paydirt again in the AFC Championship tilt this weekend against the Denver Broncos. Denver's D allowed the fifth-fewest half-PPR points per game to opposing wideouts during the regular season and only six touchdowns, which tied for the fewest in the league. Douglas was fifth on the team last week with only 17 snaps on offense, making it unlikely that he'll have a major impact on Sunday's big game unless he finds the end zone again. He hasn't gone over 40 receiving yards since Nov. 2.

DeMario Douglas Active Against Jets

New England Patriots wide receiver DeMario Douglas (hamstring), who was listed as questionable for Week 17, is officially active on Sunday as the team takes on the division-rival New York Jets. Douglas has been hard to trust for fantasy managers in 2025 in his third year in the NFL, as he's caught 28 passes on 41 targets for only 408 yards and three touchdowns in 15 games played. However, he should be set up for a much bigger role this weekend with Kayshon Boutte (concussion) out and Mack Hollins (abdomen) on Injured Reserve. Stefon Diggs and Kyle Williams figure to be New England's top two wideouts on Sunday in a plus matchup, but don't sleep on Douglas as the starting slot receiver in deeper fantasy football formats as a sneaky flex play. The 25-year-old pass-catcher has an opportunity to go over 50 receiving yards for only the third time this season.
