Morgan Moses Agrees To Three-Year Contract With Patriots
Free-agent right tackle Morgan Moses has agreed to a three-year, $24 million contract with the New England Patriots, according to NFL insider Albert Breer. Moses spent last season with the New York Jets following seven seasons with the Washington Commanders, one year with the Jets, and two years with the Baltimore Ravens. The 34-year-old has played in 166 NFL games with 158 starts. He will provide an instant upgrade and veteran presence along the Patriots offensive line that is tasked with protecting promising second-year quarterback Drake Maye.
New York Jets offensive tackle Morgan Moses (knee) suffered an MCL sprain in the Week 3 win over the New England Patriots. The veteran is expected to miss time, but he is not currently viewed as a candidate to be placed on Injured Reserve, according to head coach Robert Saleh. The injury to Aaron Rodgers' right tackle is far from ideal, but the good news is the ailment should not keep Moses out long-term. On another positive note, the Jets drafted former Penn State offensive tackle Olu Fashanu in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, so the rookie could provide solid play in relief of Moses on the opposite side of future Hall of Fame left tackle Tyron Smith. New York's offense looks to be getting on track, but injury concerns are present for its aging quarterback and offensive line.
New York Jets offensive tackle Morgan Moses (knee) is expected to miss two to four weeks with an MCL sprain and a bone bruise after undergoing a battery of tests. Considering how bad Moses' injury looked in the Thursday night win over the division-rival New England Patriots, this is good news. He went down in a lot of pain late in the win over New England after getting rolled up on. The 33-year-old won't need to miss the rest of the season, but the Jets will still be without him for at least several weeks. First-round rookie Olu Fashanu stepped into Moses' spot on the offensive line on Thursday night and figures to continue doing so, beginning with the team's Week 4 matchup against the Denver Broncos. The Jets selected Fashanu with the 11th overall pick back in April out of Penn State. New York's offense looked great on Thursday and they'll be hoping Fashanu can fill in nicely for Moses.
New York Jets right tackle Morgan Moses (knee) exited Thursday's game against the New England Patriots and was eventually downgraded to out. The 33-year-old has been a beacon of health throughout his career, missing just three games over the last nine-plus seasons. He'll undergo an MRI on Friday to determine the severity of his injury and whether he's at risk of missing additional time. New York would love to have its veteran tackle available for Week 4 against the Denver Broncos. Fortunately for the Jets, they have 10 days until their next game, giving Moses a little extra time to recover.
Morgan Moses Plans To Be Ready Despite Having Surgery
New York Jets right tackle Morgan Moses (pectoral) said he had surgery six weeks ago to fix a torn pectoral muscle that he tore in Week 4 and played through last year. Despite having surgery in the offseason for a significant injury, Moses said, "Yes, sir, 100 percent," when asked if he'll be ready to go in training camp this summer. The 33-year-old former third-round selection in the 2014 NFL draft by the Washington Commanders out of Virginia spent the first seven seasons of his career in D.C. and will be returning to the Jets after playing for them in 2021. He has started 144 of the 152 games he's appeared in over his 10-year NFL career and should open the 2024 campaign as the Jets' starting right tackle as he looks to protect quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The Baltimore Ravens are trading starting right tackle Morgan Moses and the No. 134 overall pick to the New York Jets in exchange for the No. 112 and No. 218 picks in the 2024 NFL draft. The 33-year-old veteran played for the Jets in 2021, and now he returns to help protect Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) in 2024. The Jets also agreed to terms with former Baltimore Ravens guard John Simpson earlier this week. Moses, a 2014 third-round pick, has played in 152 games with 144 career starts. Although he has never made a Pro Bowl or been named to an All-Pro team, he is viewed as an above-average starting tackle and should be a significant upgrade from last year's Jets' tackle. The team is prioritizing keeping Rodgers upright after he suffered a torn Achilles in Week 1 last year, and they're likely just missing a starting left tackle to complete the rebuilt offensive line.
The Baltimore Ravens agreed with veteran offensive tackle Morgan Moses on a three-year, $15 million deal, according to league sources. Baltimore entered free agency in need of a tackle with Alejandro Villanueva retiring and Ronnie Stanley struggling with injuries the last couple of seasons. Moses will bring some stability to the Ravens offensive line in 2022 and beyond after spending the 2021 campaign with the New York Jets. The 31-year-old is an above-average tackle and hasn't started fewer than 16 games in a season since his rookie year in 2014 with Washington. Moses spent the first seven years of his career in D.C. after Washington selected him in the third round out of Virginia.
Former Washington Football Team offensive tackle Morgan Moses is signing a one-year deal worth $3.6 million in base salary with the New York Jets on Friday, according to a source. Moses has never made a Pro Bowl, but he's coming off arguably the best season of his career and should be an upgrade over the Jets current right tackle George Fant. The 30-year-old has been heavily penalized in his career, but last year was an exception. It will be interesting to see how Moses transitions from Washington's inside-zone run scheme to Gang Green's scheme that is expected to include a lot of outside stretch-zone runs. They'll also need Moses to be solid in pass-protection in front of rookie quarterback Zach Wilson. There's also the possibility that Moses could move inside to guard, but it's more unlikely.
Former Washington Football Team offensive tackle Morgan Moses is scheduled to visit with the Chicago Bears on Tuesday, according to a source. Moses also visited with the New York Jets last week and could end up taking more visits. Both the Bears and Jets drafted franchise signal-callers this year and are looking to give them more protection, and Moses would be a strong offensive line addition for either team. The Washington Football Team and Moses had a tumultuous ending when they released him after he was granted permission to seek a trade. He's coming off one of his best seasons in the NFL, and the veteran right tackle hasn't missed a start since he landed in a full-time role in 2015.
The Washington Football Team officially released offensive tackle Morgan Moses on Thursday after a trade was always unlikely. Fellow offensive lineman Geron Christian is also being released. Moses, 30, ranked 15th in offensive grade in 2020 by Pro Football Focus, although he allowed a career-high 41 pressures in pass protection. However, he should still carry plenty of value on the open market as a tackle that has started every game since his second year in the NFL back in 2015. Washington decided to part ways after they signed Charles Leno Jr. in free agency and traded for guard Ereck Flowers. The team also selected tackle Samuel Cosmi in the second round last month. The two releases will save Washington around $5.9 million in salary cap space in 2021.
