Cameron Latu News
The San Francisco 49ers picked Alabama tight end Cameron Latu with the 101st overall pick in the NFL Draft. San Francisco gets some insurance in case star tight end George Kittle goes down with an injury. In 2021, Latu set the Alabama record for receiving touchdowns by a tight end with eight of them that year. The 23-year-old had a visit with the 49ers a few weeks ago, and apparently they liked what they saw even though he previously missed the combine. He doesn't shape up as much of a difference-making presence and should function as a blocker for the team more often than not. Perhaps he would find himself on the TE1 streaming map, though, as part of San Francisco's talented offense if Kittle ever misses time.
Alabama tight end Cameron Latu is scheduled to visit with the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers. The NFL Draft is just around the corner, which means this is a busy time around the league. Latu is one of the better tight end prospects coming out of this draft. Last season, Latu finished with 30 receptions, 377 yards, and four touchdowns in 11 games with the Crimson Tide. The Cowboys could certainly use the help at tight end after the departure of Dalton Schultz. That being said, Latu could be an impact player right away, assuming the Cowboys decide to draft him. Regardless, it appears the young tight end is drawing interest from around the league.
University of Alabama tight end and Senior Bowl standout Cameron Latu (hamstring) didn't take part in the NFL combine on Saturday after he tweaked his hamstring earlier in the week, according to sources. Latu will do everything at his school's pro day on March 23, and his hamstring injury shouldn't negatively affect his draft stock in April. In the last two seasons at Alabama, Latu caught 56 passes for 787 yards and 12 touchdowns for the Crimson Tide. Latu has limited straight-line speed, which could limit his contributions in the passing game in the NFL in his rookie season in 2023. He's more of an underneath chain-mover and blocker.
