Jalen Tolbert Falls Down Depth Chart in Contract Year

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Jalen Tolbert ended up getting buried on the depth chart during a crucial contract year in 2025. Tolbert opened the year as the presumptive No. 3 receiver behind CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, but he fell down the picking order as Ryan Flournoy and KaVontae Turpin took on larger roles. Pickens' breakout in Dallas also reduced Tolbert's volume. Tolbert ultimately finished the year sixth on the team in receiving yards (203) and seventh in receptions (18). Both represented a major step backward from 2024, when he had 49 catches, 610 yards, and seven touchdowns while finishing as the WR45 in PPR leagues. Tolbert's strong 2024 season will generate some interest in free agency, but the fact that he was essentially reduced to a non-factor in 2025 really hurts his stock. Plus, at 26 years old, teams will be looking to round out their depth chart with younger upside receivers. Tolbert can be dropped in most dynasty leagues. In very deep formats, he can be held for now, then traded when he signs somewhere this offseason.

Jaydon Blue Tough to Trust After Underwhelming Rookie Campaign

A fourth-round pick out of the University of Texas in the 2025 NFL Draft, Dallas Cowboys running back Jaydon Blue earned some preseason buzz as a potential dark horse candidate to emerge as the Cowboys' RB1. However, the 22-year-old was a non-factor for Dallas in 2025, spending most of the year on the inactive list as a healthy scratch. Across five games played, Blue recorded 129 rushing yards and a touchdown on 38 touches. Nearly half of his rushing production came in Week 18, when the competitive portion of the Cowboys' season had already concluded. Entering 2026, Cowboys RB1 Javonte Williams is set to hit unrestricted free agency. As such, there is once again a potential playing time opportunity open to Blue in the Dallas backfield, as the only other running back currently under contract with the Cowboys for 2026 is the similarly unproven Phil Mafah. However, it seems likely that Dallas will bring in another backfield option or two in either free agency or the draft. Based on Blue's disappointing rookie year, it's difficult for fantasy managers in dynasty formats to have much trust in his potential for future production.

Cowboys Looking to Tag and Trade George Pickens?

It's a foregone conclusion that the Dallas Cowboys will place the franchise tag on impending free-agent wide receiver George Pickens this offseason after his breakout 2025 season. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport wonders if the Cowboys would be willing to slap the franchise tag on Pickens and then turn around and trade him. Dallas acquired the 24-year-old from the Pittsburgh Steelers for a third-rounder, so in theory, the Cowboys could entertain the idea of flipping Pickens for a potential second-rounder. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has shown in the past that he's not afraid of trading star players (see Micah Parsons just last year) for high-end draft capital. Alongside CeeDee Lamb, though, Pickens took Dallas' offense to another level in 2025, and he finished with a career-high 1,429 yards, 93 receptions, and nine touchdowns in 17 games. If Pickens stays in Dallas in 2026, he'll be a strong WR1 target in fantasy football drafts.

Dak Prescott  • QB  •  Cowboys

Dak Prescott Should Continue to Benefit From Strong Supporting Cast

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had one of the best seasons of his career in 2025, and he should remain a top fantasy option for 2026. Prescott finished the year with a 67.3% completion rate, 4,552 passing yards, 32 total touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He also rushed for 177 yards. He finished the year as the overall QB6 in fantasy football and has now ranked as a top-six quarterback in his last two healthy seasons (excluding 2024, when he missed nine games). Prescott was able to perform at an elite level largely due to the supporting cast around him. Dallas had one of the top receiver rooms in the NFL with CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, while tight end Jake Ferguson also played at a very high level. Pickens and running back Javonte Williams are both slated for free agency, but it sounds like Dallas plans to bring back Pickens, even if that means using the franchise tag on him. If Prescott can get all three of his top targets back in 2026, he'll compete to be a top-five quarterback in fantasy football.

George Pickens Expected to Receive Franchise Tag

The Dallas Cowboys are expected to place their franchise tag on second-team All-Pro wide receiver George Pickens. Dallas acquired Pickens via trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers before the 2025 season, and in his first season with the Cowboys, the fourth-year wideout set career highs in receptions, yards, and touchdowns, earning his first Pro Bowl nod. Should Pickens hit the open market, he would be the unquestioned prize of the wide receiver free agency class and could easily demand a top-of-the-market deal. By placing the franchise tag on him, the Cowboys would retain Pickens' rights at the cost of roughly $28 million for 2026, with the hope of working toward a long-term extension. Pickens is a borderline top-10 dynasty wide receiver, and his value should continue to rise if the Cowboys succeed in making Dallas his home for the foreseeable future.

Jerry Jones "Looking Forward" to Re-Signing George Pickens

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reiterated the team's desire to reach a long-term contract extension with impending free-agent wide receiver George Pickens, according to Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "He's better than, as far as what he contributed to our team, showing the potential that he could contribute. I'm looking forward to getting things worked out so George can be a Cowboy a long time," Jones said. In his first year with Dallas in 2025, Pickens led the Cowboys in receiving and earned second-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors with a career-best 1,429 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on a career-high 93 receptions over 17 games. Jones and the Cowboys have a history of dragging out extensions for their star players, though, so nothing is guaranteed for Pickens. However, in Pickens' case, the team seems likely to use the franchise tag to keep him around in 2026 if an extension cannot be reached. If Pickens is in Dallas next season, he'll be a clear WR1 target in fantasy drafts.

CeeDee Lamb  • WR  •  Cowboys

CeeDee Lamb has Down Year by his Standards in 2025

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb missed three games due to injury in 2025 and was overshadowed by fellow wideout George Pickens. Lamb still managed to reach the 1,000-yard mark for the fifth straight season, but his 1,077 yards and 75 receptions marked his lowest output since his rookie campaign in 2020. The 25-year-old was targeted 117 times and had a career-low three touchdowns in his 14 games played. Pickens' presence was definitely an issue, as quarterback Dak Prescott targeted his new toy 137 times, which ranked eighth among WRs. Lamb should bounce back with better health in 2026, but with Pickens expected to be back at least on the franchise tag, his hopes of rebounding to high-end WR1 status might be unattainable. The four-time Pro Bowler finished last season as the WR19 in half-PPR scoring, averaging 12.6 fantasy points per game.

George Pickens "Would Love to" Stay With Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens, who will be an unrestricted free agent in March, said he "would love to" stay with the team after a career year in his first season in Dallas in 2025, according to Tommy Yarrish of NFL.com. Co-owner Stephen Jones reiterated last week that the Cowboys want to keep Pickens in Dallas for 2026 and beyond. However, the team has yet to reach out to Pickens personally to discuss a long-term contract extension. If Dallas cannot reach a long-term extension with the 24-year-old pass-catcher, they could use the franchise tag on him. One way or another, it seems likely that Pickens will be back in Dallas in 2026 after leading the team with 93 catches, 1,429 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns on 137 targets in 17 games. Pickens quickly showed great chemistry with quarterback Dak Prescott, and he'll be a WR1 target in fantasy leagues this fall if he remains with the Cowboys.

Cowboys Have had Preliminary Extension Talks With Javonte Williams

Dallas Cowboys club officials have held preliminary contract-extension talks with pending free-agent running back Javonte Williams, but talks are on hold until Williams finalizes hiring an agent, according to The Dallas Morning News' Calvin Watkins. The Cowboys have already made it clear that re-signing Williams will be a top priority this offseason after he had a career year in his first season in Dallas in 2025. After four seasons with the Denver Broncos, Williams set career highs across the board with the Cowboys, carrying the ball 252 times for 1,201 yards and 11 touchdowns in 16 starts. He added 35 receptions on 51 targets for 137 yards and two more scores. Williams finished as the RB11 in half-PPR scoring as Dallas' unquestioned lead back all year long. He finished the year on Injured Reserve due to a shoulder injury, but Williams should be fully healthy by the start of the 2026 campaign. If he returns to Dallas, which is expected, the 25-year-old will be a low-end RB1/high-end RB2 target in fantasy.

Cowboys Haven't had Contract Talks With George Pickens

The Dallas Cowboys have not held any contract talks with wide receiver George Pickens' agent, two people briefed on the situation told Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News. It's not concerning that the Cowboys haven't talked to Pickens about an extension yet, and they have expressed a desire to re-sign Pickens since the 2025 season ended. The 24-year-old broke out in his first year with Dallas, setting career highs in catches (93), receiving yards (1,429), and touchdowns (nine), to earn his first Pro Bowl nod. People close to Pickens were hopeful for a contract worth at least $30 million per season after the Cowboys acquired him from Pittsburgh last offseason, but after the big year he had in 2025, that average salary figure will most likely rise. If a long-term deal isn't worked out, the Cowboys can place the franchise tag on Pickens, starting Feb. 17. Most likely, Pickens will remain in Dallas for at least one more season on the franchise tag, where he'll be an early-round fantasy pick as a WR1.

Cowboys to Use Franchise Tag on George Pickens?

There is a "strong belief" that the Dallas Cowboys will utilize the franchise tag on wide receiver George Pickens, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.com. Pickens had an excellent first season in Dallas, catching 93 passes for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns. All three of those marks were career-highs, as was his finish as the overall WR5 in full-PPR leagues. Pickens surpassed teammate CeeDee Lamb in all of those categories, too, but it's worth noting that the former played three additional games. Nevertheless, Pickens showed that he is absolutely capable of being a superstar No. 1 wide receiver in any NFL offense. As a result, he would fetch an enormous contract in free agency if he makes it that far. Archer speculates that Pickens could make more than Lamb ($34 million per year) in free agency, so the Cowboys will likely use the franchise tag to bring him back on a one-year, $28 million deal. While $62 million is a lot of money tied up to two receivers, a combination of Lamb and Pickens helps give Dallas one of the best offenses in the NFL, especially with quarterback Dak Prescott playing at a high level. Of course, the franchise tag is just a temporary fix, as it would push Pickens' free agency one year down the road. According to Archer, the last time that Dallas signed a franchise-tagged player to a long-term deal before the July extension deadline was 2015 (Dez Bryant).

George Pickens has Monster Season in Dallas in Contract Year

In his first year with the Dallas Cowboys in 2025, wide receiver George Pickens had a career year, catching 93 of his 137 targets for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns in 17 games in his fourth year in the NFL. It earned the 24-year-old former second-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022 his first Pro Bowl nod. Only Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Puka Nacua had more receiving yards than Pickens, and his 93 receptions ranked sixth among all wideouts. Despite CeeDee Lamb's presence, Pickens was Dallas' leading receiver and had the eighth-most targets among all WRs in the NFL. Because of the big year he had for the Cowboys, they will almost certainly keep him around in 2026, via either a long-term extension or franchise tag. Pickens always had high-end talent, but the move to Dallas with quarterback Dak Prescott and a pass-happy offense was the perfect fit. Another big year could be in store in 2026.

Jake Ferguson on the Rise Following Bounce-Back Season in 2025

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson didn't have much of a chance in 2024 after quarterback Dak Prescott's season-ending hamstring injury, finishing his third year in the NFL with 59 catches, 494 yards, and zero touchdowns in 14 starts. Ferguson was able to bounce back in 2025, though, with a career-high 82 receptions on 102 targets for 600 yards and a career-high eight touchdowns in 17 contests. It wasn't all great for the 27-year-old, though, as he didn't go over 20 receiving yards in any of his final four games while also finishing with a career-low 7.3 yards per catch. All in all, it was a successful fourth year in the NFL. Ferguson was the TE7 in half-PPR scoring, and he will be a no-doubt TE1 target in fantasy football drafts this fall as the top pass-catching tight end in the Cowboys' high-scoring offense. Despite receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens seeing their fair share of targets, Ferguson was one of only eight TEs who saw over 100 targets in 2025.

DaRon Bland has Foot Surgery, Expected to be Ready for OTAs

Dallas Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland (foot) had surgery on his left foot on Tuesday, according to Todd Archer of ESPN. It's the second surgery on Bland's foot in as many years, but the expectation is that he will be ready for the team's offseason program in the spring. The main focus is on having the 26-year-old defensive back be a full-go for training camp in the summer. The Cowboys held Bland out of the final three games of the 2025 season with his foot injury, and they're hoping the injury can be put behind him going into the 2026 campaign. Bland recorded a career-high 73 tackles (45 solo), an interception returned for a touchdown, and six pass breakups in 12 starts this year. He picked off 14 passes (five returned for touchdowns) in his first two years in the NFL, but he has just one interception in the last two years and has had trouble staying on the field.

Re-Signing Javonte Williams an Offseason Priority for Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said on Wednesday that re-signing running back Javonte Williams is at the top of the team's list of offseason priorities, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. "We want to bring him back and sign him to a multiple-year deal," Jones said. It's not the first time the Cowboys have said this after the 25-year-old Williams exceeded expectations in his first year in Dallas in 2025. The former Denver Broncos RB had the first 1,000-yard rushing season of his career, gaining 1,210 yards and a career-high 11 touchdowns on the ground on 252 carries over 16 games. Williams added 35 receptions on 51 targets for 137 yards and two more scores to finish as the RB11 in half-PPR scoring. He finished the year on Injured Reserve due to a nagging shoulder injury, but he should be ready in plenty of time for Week 1 of the 2026 season. If he returns to Dallas, Williams should be the clear RB1 option out of the backfield.

Dak Prescott Peaks in 2025

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is optimistic about the team's future based on quarterback Dak Prescott's impressive 2025 season. "I think I've seen Dak at the best he's ever been," Jones said. Prescott certainly had one of the best seasons of his 10-year NFL career, completing 67.3% of his 600 pass attempts for 4,552 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 17 starts. His 404 completions were a league-high, and he finished as the QB5 in terms of overall fantasy points. The 32-year-old veteran entered Week 18 action with the most passing yards, completions, and pass attempts in the NFL, but he wasn't able to add much to those totals after the Cowboys pulled him in a meaningless game. Dallas' failure to make the postseason this year shouldn't rest on the shoulders of Prescott and the offense. Going into 2026, he'll be a strong QB1 target if the Cowboys bring receiver George Pickens back to work with CeeDee Lamb.

Tyler Smith Could Need Knee Surgery

Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Tyler Smith (knee) said that he will have his knee examined by team doctors to see if he needs offseason surgery, according to Nick Harris of The Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Smith missed time in training camp with his knee injury and one game during the regular season while battling tendinitis. In addition to potentially going under the knife, Smith is looking to get clarity from the team on whether he will move forward as a left guard or a left tackle. "The biggest thing for me is what's best for the team, but also what's smart for me and my career," Smith said. The 24-year-old helped fill in at left tackle for the Cowboys in 2025 to replace Tyler Guyton (ankle), but he could be moved to guard next year. Smith signed a four-year, $96 million extension in September.

DaRon Bland to Have Offseason Foot Surgery

Dallas Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland (foot) said on Monday that he is scheduled to have surgery to fix the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot on Jan. 13, according to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News. It's the same bone that Bland hurt before the 2024 season, and that cost him the first 10 games of that season. The 26-year-old played through his foot injury but managed to appear in only 12 games before landing on Injured Reserve in December. Bland emerged as one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL in 2023, with nine interceptions and five pick-sixes. However, injuries over the last two years have made it hard for him to stay on the field. Bland finished 2025 with a career-high 73 tackles (45 solo), one interception, and six pass breakups. Hopefully, he will be able to put his foot injury behind him in 2026.

Phil Mafah Finds the End Zone in Week 18

Dallas Cowboys running back Phil Mafah got his first taste of NFL action in Week 18 against the New York Giants and finished the game with 29 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown on seven touches. A seventh-round pick out of Clemson in the 2025 NFL draft, Mafah spent most of his rookie season on Injured Reserve with a shoulder injury. He got his chance to make an impression in Week 18 due to injuries to Cowboys running backs Javonte Williams (shoulder, neck) and Malik Davis (calf, eye). Heading into 2026, the Cowboys' running back room is in flux. Williams was the team's clear RB1 throughout the 2025 season, but he will hit free agency and is uncertain to be retained. Davis is also a free agent, though Dallas holds his restricted free agent rights. Depending on how the Cowboys choose to address the running back position this offseason, Mafah could find himself battling with 2025 fifth-rounder Jaydon Blue for a role in the Dallas backfield.

Jaydon Blue Leads the Backfield in Week 18, Scores First Career Touchdown

Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Jaydon Blue was a non-factor for the Cowboys during the 2026 season. Still, with them missing the playoffs and having nothing to play for in Week 17, they decided to rest a handful of starters, such as running back Javonte Williams, which allowed Blue to get the start. He made the most out of it, rushing 16 times for 64 yards (4.0 YPC) and scoring his first career touchdown. He out-touched rookie Phil Mafah 16 to five in this contest. Blue was not involved at all in the passing game and finished his rookie campaign with 38 rush attempts for 129 yards (3.39 YPC) and one touchdown. Cowboys lead running back, Williams, was on a one-year deal, meaning his return to the team will certainly impact Blue's 2026 outlook. The former fifth-round pick in 2025, Blue, remains a dynasty stash at best.
