Tyler Smith Fantasy Stats

The Dallas Cowboys have activated guard Tyler Smith (thumb) from injured reserve, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. Smith is coming off a full practice session and will make his season debut on Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The All-Pro lineman landed on IR shortly before the regular season began, as he required surgery on his thumb. He missed no more than the minimum four games, and now he's back in action and will offer key protection in front of Dak Prescott and Javonte Williams. The former first-round pick will look to build off an impressive 2025 campaign that saw him post a career-high 81.0 PFF run-blocking grade.

Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl left guard Tyler Smith (thumb) had surgery on his left thumb on Tuesday and will be placed on Injured Reserve, which will cause him to miss at least the first four games of the 2026 season, according to ESPN's Todd Archer. Smith tried to play through the injury, but ultimately, he and the team decided it was in the best interest of both sides to undergo surgery, which will fix a ligament tear. The earliest Smith could return to Dallas is on Oct. 8 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 5 on Thursday Night Football. The more realistic date for Smith's return might be the following week on Oct. 18 against the Green Bay Packers. The 25-year-old is a key piece of Dallas' offense, as he has been named to the Pro Bowl in each of the last three seasons, joining only Larry Allen and Zack Martin as the only guards in franchise history to accomplish that feat in their first four seasons. Smith also had a clean-up procedure on his right knee in February. With Smith out for at least the first four games this year, T.J. Bass is expected to replace him in the starting lineup after starting 10 games in his first three NFL seasons.

Dallas Cowboys All-Pro left guard Tyler Smith (knee) had minor cleanup surgery on his right knee after the Pro Bowl, sources told Todd Archer of ESPN. Smith said he will be 100% healthy before the start of the team's offseason program in April. The 24-year-old appeared in 16 games for Dallas in 2025 and was named to the Pro Bowl for the third straight season. Smith's knee injury initially flared up in training camp last summer, but he was able to manage it throughout the season. The former 24th overall pick in 2022 out of Tulsa has missed just five total games in his four years in the NFL. Smith signed a four-year, $96 million contract extension with the team in September of last year, and he could be asked to move from left guard to left tackle in 2026 to fill in for the injured Tyler Guyton (ankle).

Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Tyler Smith (knee) said that he will have his knee examined by team doctors to see if he needs offseason surgery, according to Nick Harris of The Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Smith missed time in training camp with his knee injury and one game during the regular season while battling tendinitis. In addition to potentially going under the knife, Smith is looking to get clarity from the team on whether he will move forward as a left guard or a left tackle. "The biggest thing for me is what's best for the team, but also what's smart for me and my career," Smith said. The 24-year-old helped fill in at left tackle for the Cowboys in 2025 to replace Tyler Guyton (ankle), but he could be moved to guard next year. Smith signed a four-year, $96 million extension in September.

Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Tyler Smith (knee) is active for Week 5 on Sunday against the hosting New York Jets, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Nick Harris. Although Smith will be active despite not practicing all week, he will not start at left guard this weekend. Instead, the Cowboys will roll with Hakeem Adeniji at left guard. Keep in mind that the Cowboys are already without offensive guard Tyler Booker (ankle) and offensive tackle Tyler Guyton (concussion) against the Jets. Although Dallas could certainly end up winning this game comfortably, the absences of Booker and Guyton leave the Cowboys' offense much more vulnerable on the road as they go for their second win of the 2025 season. In addition to Booker and Guyton being out, Dallas is also without receivers CeeDee Lamb (ankle) and KaVontae Turpin (foot).

Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Sunday that guard Tyler Smith is "hopefully the next one to get done" for an extension with the club, according to Ian Rapoport. It was a busy week for Dallas, which controversially shipped edge rusher Micah Parsons to Green Bay and signed defensive back DaRon Bland to an extension. The first-year coach said he's hopeful Smith, an All-Pro at guard, could follow. The Tulsa product is still on his rookie deal, with the club holding a fifth-year option through 2026.

Dallas Cowboys left guard Tyler Smith (hamstring) is optimistic that he can play in the Week 1 regular season opener this Sunday night against the New York Giants. "He says he feels really good. He's very optimistic," head coach Mike McCarthy said. Smith won't practice on Thursday and will rehab off to the side with director of rehabilitation Britt Brown as part of a return-to-play procedure. The 22-year-old injured his hamstring in practice earlier this week and was diagnosed with a strain, but the Cowboys aren't ruling him out of Sunday night's game. If Smith can't practice by Saturday, then the Cowboys will likely move Chuma Edoga into the starting lineup.

An MRI exam confirmed that Dallas Cowboys left guard Tyler Smith (hamstring) suffered a hamstring strain in practice on Monday, according to a person with knowledge of the injury. However, owner Jerry Jones said on Tuesday that he was confident that Smith would be ready to go for the Week 1 regular season opener against the New York Giants on Sunday. It will depend on how the 22-year-old second-year offensive guard recovers from the injury and how much he's able to do in practice leading up to Sunday's game this week. If Smith is unable to go, rookie fifth-rounder Asim Richards would likely step in as the starter at left guard for the Cowboys.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said "it's safe to say" that rookie first-round offensive tackle Tyler Smith will be the starting left tackle in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with Tyron Smith (hamstring, knee) out until at least December. Smith returned to practice on Monday after sitting out last week with a sprained ankle. Dallas selected the 21-year-old in the first round with visions of Smith becoming their left tackle of the future, but he'll have to step in sooner than expected. It's certainly a downgrade for the Cowboys offensive line and quarterback Dak Prescott, but Smith certainly has the ability to succeed right away.

Dallas Cowboys first-round offensive tackle Tyler Smith has mostly worked at left guard since he was drafted in April, but he was lined up at left tackle when the first-team offense opened team drills on Thursday at organized team activities. Tyron Smith was held out of practices last week with some lower-back tightness, but he was on the field Thursday and took the majority of the first-team repetitions at left tackle. When Tyron Smith was at left tackle, the rookie was lined up at left guard. If everything goes to plan, Tyler Smith will be the team's eventual starting left tackle down the road. "I think he seems a little more natural at guard right now. I know he's played tackle in college. But his aggressive nature fits well for him in there," head coach Mike McCarthy said.
