Malik Hooker News
The Dallas Cowboys and safety Malik Hooker agreed to a three-year contract extension on Friday worth up to $24 million that includes an $8 million signing bonus paid in the next 15 days and $16.5 million guaranteed, according to his agent, David Mulugheta. The deal ties Hooker to the Cowboys through the 2026 season. The 27-year-old former first-rounder in 2017 by the Indianapolis Colts out of Ohio State gets the extension after recording a career-high 62 tackles (44 solo) in his second year with Dallas in 2022. He also had a career-high-tying three interceptions and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown in 16 regular season games (six starts). Hooker will remain a starter for the Cowboys moving forward.
Dallas Cowboys safety Malik Hooker (thumb) took part in the team's mandatory minicamp after having surgery on his thumb when the Cowboys were eliminated from the playoffs last season. Hooker should be good to go for the start of training camp in late July. He's coming off a career-best 62 tackles (44 solo), three interceptions and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown in 16 regular season games (six starts) in 2022 in his second year in Dallas. When healthy, the 27-year-old should continue to start in the team's secondary this year.
The Dallas Cowboys re-signed safety Malik Hooker to a two-year, $8 million deal on Tuesday, according to a source. Hooker isn't much of an asset in IDP fantasy leagues, but he played well for the Cowboys down the stretch in 2021 and finished with 44 tackles (30 solo), one interception and two passes defensed in 15 regular season games (three starts) for the Cowboys in his first season with the team after spending the first four years of his career with the Indianapolis Colts. The 25-year-old was coming off a torn Achilles that limited him to two games in 2020, so his 2021 performance was extremely encouraging. The former first-round pick should have a full-time role in 2022.
