Luke Schoonmaker News
Dallas Cowboys rookie tight end Luke Schoonmaker made his first NFL catch in Week 2, scoring his first NFL touchdown in the process. He's only been targeted once through two games, but he made it count, scoring a touchdown in the second quarter of the 30-10 win. Schoonmaker has nice longer term upside, but he has Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot ahead of him on the depth chart for now.
Dallas Cowboys rookie tight end Luke Schoonmaker (foot) said after Tuesday's training camp practice that he's pain-free after working his way back from plantar fasciitis. Schoonmaker played 21 offensive snaps in the preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars and 29 offensive snaps in the preseason game last Saturday against the Seattle Seahawks. He's been targeted three times in the two games, catching all three passes for 30 yards. "It's pretty much back to where it was before (the injury)," Schoonmaker said of his foot. "I'm just doing strengthening stuff. I'm really trying to get the rest of my foot strong around it so that I don't have any issues." The second-rounder will begin his rookie season behind Jake Ferguson, putting him off the fantasy radar in redraft leagues.
Dallas Cowboys rookie tight end Luke Schoonmaker (foot) will get more work in training camp practice on Thursday. Schoonmaker missed the start of camp with a partial tear of his plantar fasciia, but he was activated from the Non-Football Injury list earlier this week and continues to progress to more work in practices. Don't expect the 24-year-old to play in Dallas' first preseason game, but barring a setback, he should be ready for the start of the regular season. The tight end spot is wide open for the Cowboys in 2023 now that Dalton Schultz is gone, giving Schoonmaker an opportunity to make a big impact in his rookie season. However, fantasy managers should temper expectations, as Jake Ferguson seems locked into the top pass-catching role in this offense for now.
