Broncos Defense Loses Some Luster After Von Miller Injury

The Denver Broncos Defense can still be a borderline starting option for fantasy managers in 2020 after they were a late-round option in drafts, but the season-ending injury to All-Pro pass-rusher Von Miller (ankle) lowers their overall ceiling. Denver lost Pro Bowl cornerback Chris Harris Jr. and defensive lineman Derek Wolfe in the offseason, but they added cornerback A.J. Bouye and defensive tackle Jurrell Casey. A healthy Bradley Chubb should help make up for the loss of Miller as well. Containing last year's leading rusher Derrick Henry won't be easy on Monday night to kick off the season, but Denver's D will still be in play as a low-end fantasy starting unit at home.

Von Miller To Have Surgery On Ankle

Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller (ankle) visited with Dr. Robert Anderson on Thursday and will have surgery to fix his dislocated tendon, according to a source. Miller will be out for at least three months and is unlikely to play in 2020. It's a huge blow to Denver's defense, as Miller and Bradley Chubb were looking forward to forming one of the best pass-rushing duos in the NFL in head coach Vic Fangio's second season. The good news is that the 31-year-old former Super Bowl MVP didn't tear the tendon in his ankle. The Broncos will need Chubb and Jurrell Casey to step up in the pass-rush department this year. Their defense still has a chance to be solid, but Miller's season-ending injury certainly gives them less upside as a low-end starting unit. Wrapping up the Titans and Derrick Henry on Monday night could prove more difficult.

Von Miller Out 5-6 Months With Dislocated Tendon

Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller (ankle) was diagnosed with a dislocated peroneal tendon in his ankle after suffering the injury in practice on Tuesday. Essentially, the tendon flipped over the ankle bone. Miller will likely need surgery with a general recovery time of five to six months. In a best-case scenario, he'd be out for three months. The Broncos best defensive player will miss all of the 2020 season, which will make their defense a less-exciting starting unit in fantasy. It'll also put much more pressure on defensive end Bradley Chubb, who missed most of last year with a torn ACL in his knee. The Broncos will also need offseason acquisition Jurrell Casey to step up if they are going to compete with the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs in the AFC West.
