Sam Williams has Potential to be Elite Edge Rusher

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams (knee) has the size and athletic ability to become an elite edge rusher, in the opinion of The Athletic's Jon Machota. Williams suffered a season-ending torn ACL and MCL in training camp last summer that caused him to miss the entire year. However, he was able to take part in individual drills during minicamp, and Machota believes that he could be the team's second-most productive pass-rusher in 2025 behind Micah Parsons. The 26-year-old was taken 56th overall in the second round in the 2022 NFL draft and recorded 48 tackles (30 solo), 8.5 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, 16 QB hits, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in 32 games (zero starts) in his first two years in the league. If he can stay healthy, Williams could be a key player in Dallas' pass rush.

Sam Williams Out For The Season With Torn ACL

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams (knee) was confirmed to have suffered a torn ACL on Sunday. He was seen being carted off the field and a torn ACL was initially feared, but it has now been confirmed with an MRI. Williams was looking to be the first reliever for Demarcus Lawrence this season after posting 4.5 sacks, 26 total tackles (15 solo), and five tackles for loss. Marshawn Kneeland and Durrell Johnson are the next two defensive ends on the depth chart, so their performances throughout training camp will likely be closely monitored.

Sam Williams Carted Off The Field

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams (knee) was carted off the practice field following a non-contact injury. Williams reportedly planted his left foot before immediately grabbing the back of his left knee. This doesn't sound like good news for a Cowboys d-line that has already lost some players this offseason. Williams recorded 22 tackles with 4.5 sacks in 17 games last season. The assumption is that Williams tore his ACL, but the Cowboys will have him undergo further testing before announcing anything.

Sam Williams Arrested On Weapons, Controlled-Substance Charges

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams was arrested on Sunday night on charges of possessing a controlled substance and unlawful carrying of a weapon in Frisco, Texas. He's being charged with alleged possession of marijuana, which is a low-level state felony, but the unlawful carrying of a weapon is classified as a misdemeanor. It's possible that Williams could face a minor suspension from the league for the arrest. The 24-year-old pass-rusher is entering his second season in the NFL after he was the 56th overall pick in the second round in 2022. Williams was also charged with misdemeanor reckless driving in January, so this isn't his first off-the-field incident this year. In 15 games (zero starts) in his rookie campaign, he had 22 tackles (15 solo), four sacks, 10 tackles for loss, nine QB hits, a forced fumble and three fumble recoveries.
