Los Angeles Rams pass-rusher Jared Verse was named the 2024 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year on Thursday night. The rookie out of Florida State made an immediate impact in his first year in the NFL and totaled 37 first-place votes to beat out Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell. The 19th overall pick finished with 4.5 sacks and ranked fourth among all pass-rushers with 76 quarterback pressures. In addition, Verse was also one of eight non-linebackers to finish the year with 40-plus run stops. In L.A.'s Divisional Round loss to the Eagles, Verse had a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown. Verse's teammate, Brandon Fiske, came in third place in the Defensive Rookie of the Year voting. In addition to his 4.5 sacks on the year, Verse had 66 tackles (36 solo), two pass breakups, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 17 regular-season games.
Los Angeles Rams linebacker Jared Verse (ankle) is officially active for Sunday's Week 14 contest against the Buffalo Bills. He had been listed as questionable after logging a limited practice on Friday. Verse has been a key contributor in his first NFL season, tallying 54 tackles, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery through 12 games. This week, he'll be tasked with slowing down a dynamic Bills offense led by MVP candidate Josh Allen.
Jared Verse Expected To Play Despite Questionable Tag
Los Angeles Rams rookie outside linebacker Jared Verse (ankle) and offensive lineman Alaric Jackson (foot) are both listed as questionable for the Week 14 game against the visiting Buffalo Bills on Sunday, but both players are expected to play, according to head coach Sean McVay. Verse, the 19th overall pick this year out of Florida State, has become fantasy relevant in his first year in the NFL in IDP formats by racking up 54 tackles (30 solo), 4.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, 17 QB hits, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in his first 12 starts in the league for the Rams. Most of the 24-year-old pass-rusher's production has come since the team's Week 6 bye, and Verse will be in play as a starter at defensive line for fantasy managers again this weekend now that he's expected to play.
The Rams Select Jared Verse With The 19th Overall Pick
The Los Angeles Rams are using their first first-round selection in eight years to select defensive end Jared Verse from Florida State. The 23-year-old is one of the most talented edge rushers in the class. He has a great first step and excellent closing speed to get off of blocks. Verse had nine total sacks last season and will be called upon to help the Rams overcome the loss of the now-retired Aaron Donald.
Florida State edge defender Jared Verse is set to visit the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. The 23-year-old has already met with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and will meet with the Denver Broncos soon. Verse is a projected first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after posting 89 tackles (45 solo), 29.5 tackles for loss, and 18 sacks over the last two seasons in Tallahassee. Seattle, Tampa Bay, and Denver all have needs at edge rusher, so any of the three franchises could be a good fit. The two-time first-team All-American registered elite speed and explosion grades during his pre-draft athletic testing, so he could be picked as high as Denver's No. 12 selection.
