Maliek Collins News
The Houston Texans re-signed defensive tackle Maliek Collins to a two-year, $17 million deal on Tuesday that includes $8.5 million guaranteed, according to his agents, Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha. Collins will return to the Texans as a valuable run-stuffer on the interior of the defensive line in Houston. The Texans were one of the worst run defenses in the NFL in 2021. Collins had 29 tackles (18 solo), nine tackles for loss, seven QB hits, one interception, a fumble recovery and 2.5 sacks in 15 starts in 2021 in his first year with the team. The 26-year-old was selected in the third round of the 2016 draft by the Dallas Cowboys out of Nebraska.
Former Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Maliek Collins reached an agreement on a one-year deal worth up to $6 million with the Houston Texans on Monday, according to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. The 310-pound defensive tackle was a third-round pick by the Cowboys out of Nebraska back in 2016 and spent the first four seasons of his career in Dallas. Collins spent the 2020 season with the Las Vegas Raiders, recording 15 combined tackles (eight solo), one QB hit and no sacks in 12 games (11 starts). If he can stay healthy, the 25-year-old should be a starter on Houston's defensive line and should help replace J.J. Watt, who was released and signed with the Arizona Cardinals. Collins has 14.5 career sacks in 73 games over five NFL seasons.
The Las Vegas Raiders placed defensive tackle Maliek Collins (undisclosed) on Injured Reserve on Wednesday. According to Pro Football Focus, Collins is the lowest-graded defensive tackle in the NFL and he's the second-lowest graded run defender in 2020. He's failed to record a single sack in his first year with the Raiders after being one of the more underrated defensive tackles in the league when he was with the Cowboys. The free-agent bust will have to miss at least the next three games, so with only five games remaining in the regular season, Collins might have already played his last snap with Las Vegas. Although the Raiders defense hasn't been much of a factor in fantasy all year, they'll be a streaming option in 12-team leagues against the winless Jets this Sunday.
