Derek Barnett News
The Philadelphia Eagles re-signed defensive end Derek Barnett to an undisclosed two-year deal on Thursday, according to a source. Barnett had a career-high 46 tackles (20 solo), seven tackles for loss and 11 QB hits, but he also recorded a career-low two sacks in 16 games (15 starts) in his fifth season in Philadelphia. The 25-year-old former first-round pick has 21.5 career sacks in 64 games (45 starts) and will likely be rotated along the Eagles defensive line with Brandon Graham, Haason Reddick and Josh Sweat. Barnett has never totaled more than 6.5 sacks in a single NFL season, though, so he shouldn't be on the fantasy radar in IDP formats.
Philadelphia Eagles defensive ends Derek Barnett (calf) and Josh Sweat (wrist) have both been ruled out for Sunday's game versus the Cowboys. Barnett has been one of the most consistent commodities for the Eagles Defense this season, having compiled 34 total tackles to go along with 16 quarterback hits and 5.5 sacks. Sweat has been placed on injured reserve, which will end his regular season. There exists the possibility that he could return to the unit should they make the playoffs. Expect Genard Avery to see an increased role Sunday, but for the unit to get more creative in rushing the passer without either Barnett or Sweat. Philadelphia's defense did not hold much appeal coming into the week, and without either of the aforementioned d-ends, the Andy Dalton-led Cowboys are not worthy of targeting with streamer options.
Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Derek Barnett (shoulder) is having season-ending shoulder surgery on Tuesday, according to a source. The former first-round pick had 17 tackles and 2.5 sacks on the season, so his loss is a blow to the Eagles defensive line moving forward. However, their defense/special teams will remain a strong play in Week 8 against a Jaguars offense that has been awful behind quarterback Blake Bortles in the absence of running back Leonard Fournette (hamstring).
