Tytus Howard News
The Houston Texans picked up the fifth-year option for versatile offensive lineman Tytus Howard on Monday, according to a source. Howard has started multiple games at left tackle, right tackle and left guard since he was taken 23rd overall by the Texans in 2019 out of Alabama State. The 25-year-old isn't a great run-blocker, but he offers decent pass protection and gives Houston plenty of options for their offensive line. Howard is expected to move back to right tackle, his best position, this year after the team selected guard Kenyon Green in the first round this year. Howard will be guaranteed $13.2 million in 2023.
Houston Texans interim head coach Romeo Crennel said that it's "unlikely" that offensive lineman Tytus Howard (concussion) will play in Week 16 against the Bengals after suffering a concussion in the Week 15 loss to the Colts. The 24-year-old first-round pick in 2019 has started all 14 games for Houston's offensive line this year, so his absence would be a downgrade for quarterback Deshaun Watson this weekend. Even though Watson's ceiling has lowered a bit with top wideout Will Fuller V suspended through the end of the season, he should still be in play as at least a midrange QB1 despite the fact that Cincinnati's defense has allowed the fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks in the last five weeks. Update: the Texans placed Howard on Injured Reserve, ending his 2020 season.
The Houston Texans selected Alabama State offensive tackle Tytus Howard with the No. 23 overall pick of the 2019 NFL draft. Quarterback Deshaun Watson was sacked the most in the NFL in 2018, so you could say they've had trouble protecting their signal-caller. He has the feet, balance and athleticism to play in the NFL. Howard has a lot of upside and will immediately improve Houston's weak offensive line, which is great news for both Watson and the team's rushing attack.
