Carson Schwesinger Played Through Thigh Injury in Week 17

Cleveland Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger (thigh) played through a thigh injury in his team's Week 17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, per Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal. The rookie linebacker has started all 16 games for Cleveland so far this season, recording 67 solo tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two interceptions. Pro Football Focus grades Schwesinger as the 21st-best linebacker out of 86 qualified players at the position in 2025, so his presence on the field is key for the Cleveland defense. If Schwesinger remains limited by the injury in practice this week, there may not be much incentive for the 4-12 Browns to push him to play in Week 18 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Should Schwesinger be sidelined, Browns linebackers Jerome Baker and Easton Mascarenas-Arnold would both likely see more playing time against Cincinnati.

Carson Schwesinger Active for Browns Defense

Cleveland Browns rookie linebacker Carson Schwesinger (ankle), who was listed as questionable for the Week 10 game against the New York Jets, is officially active on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. Schwesinger will be active despite suffering a high-ankle sprain in the team's Week 8 loss to the New England Patriots, but he was able to heal up during last week's bye. The 22-year-old could be slowed down a bit, but he was fortunate to suffer just a low-grade high-ankle sprain. He's been a bright spot for a capable Browns defense in his first year in the NFL, totaling 64 tackles (25 solo), a sack, four tackles for loss, one interception, and a pass breakup in his eight starts. The Browns' defense/special teams is a top-five fantasy option this weekend against a Jets team coming into the weekend with just one win on the season.

Carson Schwesinger Picks Up High-Ankle Sprain

Cleveland Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger (ankle) sustained a high-ankle sprain in Week 8's 32-13 road loss to the New England Patriots. The rookie left Sunday's contest in the fourth quarter with the issue, and testing on Monday confirmed the injury. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported the news. It's a significant hit to Cleveland's defense, as the UCLA product currently leads the team in total tackles (64). Fortunately for Schwesinger, his team will get a week off in Week 9, affording him a bit of extra time to heal up. However, sprains of this variety usually take about a month to fully subside, provided they don't linger. Teammate Devin Bush will take over as the position's snap leader for the time being, with Mohamoud Diabate and Jerome Baker working behind him.

Carson Schwesinger Figures to be in Full-Time Role in 2025

Cleveland Browns rookie second-round linebacker Carson Schwesinger figures to be in a full-time role that could include calling defensive signals at some point early in his first year in the NFL, according to The Athletic's Zac Jackson. The Browns used the No. 33 overall pick on Schwesinger in April with Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah's (neck) football future in question. Schwesinger is big, instinctual and will also contribute on special teams for Cleveland right away. The 22-year-old was only a one-year starter in college at UCL, but he has a high motor and led all FBS linebackers in 2024 with 136 tackles (90 solo). With Owusu-Koramoah not expected to play at all in 2025, Schwesinger should start at weakside linebacker for the Browns and could have some IDP fantasy value sooner than later because of his tackling ability.
