The Cleveland Browns waived defensive lineman Perrion Winfrey on Wednesday. A former fourth-rounder in 2022, Winfrey appeared in 13 games as a rookie in 2022 and finished with 22 tackles. The Browns decided to part ways with him while Winfrey is under police investigation for allegedly threatening a woman with a gun on Tuesday night. He was also charged with assault in Texas earlier this offseason, although the charge was dismissed after he took part in a pretrial diversion program. The 22-year-old's latest off-the-field incident became too much for the Browns to ignore.
Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey was arrested in Texas on Monday and has been charged with misdemeanor assault, allegedly causing bodily harm to a woman he was dating. Brianna Mack alleges that Winfrey knowingly and intentionally injured her by pulling her with his hand. Winfrey was labeled as immature coming out of Oklahoma for the NFL draft, and he has done nothing to shake those concerns so far with Cleveland. The Browns were already looking for help at the three-technique defensive tackle position, and there's a good chance they'll now move on from Winfrey. The 22-year-old former fourth-round pick last year had 22 tackles (eight solo) and half a sack in 13 games (zero starts) in his rookie season in 2022.
