Bears
With wide receivers Keenan Allen (heel) and Rome Odunze (knee) listed as questionable for Sunday night's game in Houston, the Chicago Bears have elevated wide receiver Collin Johnson from their practice squad. Johnson, who was released by the Giants during final cuts in 2023, was signed to the Bears' practice squad on October 10th and was later promoted to the active roster. He played 40 snaps over the last three games of the season, catching one pass for 11 yards. Johnson showcased his potential during the preseason, recording three catches for 53 yards and two touchdowns in the Hall of Fame Game against the Texans on August 1. Despite this, he did not play in the subsequent three preseason games due to injury and failed to make the Bears' 53-man roster. If Allen or Odunze are unable to play, the Bears will miss the size and physicality that Johnson, standing 6'6" and weighing 222 pounds, can provide. Johnson has had more time to learn the offense and could fill that gap. While he doesn't need to be rostered in fantasy leagues at this time, he could be a useful emergency fill-in if both Allen and Odunze are sidelined.

Collin Johnson Catches Two Touchdowns In Preseason Debut
Chicago Bears wide receiver Collin Johnson caught three of his six targets for 56 yards and two touchdowns in the team's 21-17 shortened win over the Texans. Johnson showed great rapport with quarterback Brett Rypien in this game to help give Chicago a slight edge over Houston. In a receiver room loaded with talent at the top, there isn't much room on the active roster for Johnson. More performances like this throughout camp bolster his case to be on the practice squad at the least. Johnson's next chance to show his ability in a game comes August 10th at Buffalo.

Collin Johnson Has Been Running
New York Giants wide receiver Collin Johnson (Achilles), who tore his right Achilles during a standout training camp last summer, said he is already running on turf and is excited about returning even stronger in 2023. Johnson has more rehab to do, but he's making encouraging progress. We'll never know how involved the 25-year-old would have been in New York's passing attack this year after he caught 11 of his 21 targets for 105 yards and no touchdowns in 12 games (one start) for the G-Men in his second NFL season in 2021. Johnson could have the opportunity for a sizeable role in the offense next season if he stays healthy and impresses again this summer, but he'll remain off the fantasy radar for now.

Collin Johnson Suffers Torn Achilles Wednesday
New York Giants wide receiver Collin Johnson (Achilles) tore his Achilles in training camp practice on Wednesday, according to the team. It's a tough break, as Johnson had impressed this summer and looked primed for serious playing time. Instead, he'll miss the entire 2022 campaign. In two preseason games, he caught 10 passes for 123 yards. It comes on the same day that the Giants reinstated Sterling Shepard, who tore his Achilles last year, from the Physically Unable to Perform list. New York's receiver room was decimated by injuries in 2021, so Johnson's injury is more of the same. Kadarius Toney (hamstring) has been slowed by an injury in camp, but he projects as the highest-upside Giants wideout with quarterback Daniel Jones back healthy this year.

Collin Johnson Gets Carted Off At Wednesday’s Practice
New York Giants wide receiver Collin Johnson (leg) was carted off the practice field Wednesday due to an apparent right leg injury. Johnson is the latest Giants wideout to sustain an ailment, with the group already down Kadarius Toney (hamstring), Darius Slayton (undisclosed) and C.J. Board (ribs), while Sterling Shepard (Achilles) is still working his way back. Johnson recorded 11 catches for 105 yards over 12 games (one start) last season, pitching in as injuries decimated the team's depth chart. The high volume of players sidelined would elevate the DFS appeal of Kenny Golladay and Wan'Dale Robinson come Week 1, although Daniel Jones faces an uphill battle with so many weapons unavailable. Further updates on Johnson's status will be provided as they become available.

Collin Johnson Logs Team-High Seven Receptions In Preseason Victory
New York Giants wide receiver Collin Johnson surprisingly led all wide receivers on the team in receptions and yards in Thursday's preseason victory over the New England Patriots. The former fifth-round pick hauled in seven passes for 82 yards on eight targets. Johnson saw a decent amount of action with the starters on Thursday due to Kadarius Toney and Wan'Dale Robinson being inactive. Once Toney and Robinson see the field, Kenny Golladay, Toney, and Robinson will be the top three wideouts for Daniel Jones to target in the passing game. Not to mention, Saquon Barkley will have a decent-sized role in the aerial attack out of the backfield. It will take an injury to one of Golladay, Toney, Robinson, and potentially Darius Slayton for Johnson to be relevant in deeper fantasy football leagues.

Collin Johnson Could Have Expanded Role In Week 4
New York Giants wide receiver Collin Johnson could have an expanded role in Sunday's matchup against the New Orleans Saints. Giants WRs Sterling Shepard (hamstring) and Darius Slayton (hamstring) have been unable to practice this week, putting their status in serious jeopardy for Week 4. Johnson caught 5-of-7 targets for 51 yards in Sunday's 17-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. The 24-year-old tied running back Saquon Barkley with seven targets for the team lead in Week 3. Rookie Kadarius Toney is expected to play the slot while Kenny Golladay will be shadowed by Saints star corner Marshon Lattimore. Johnson would be the team's No.3 option. The Saints have been burned by WR3s and are 30th in DVOA against them this season. Johnson will be a boom-or-bust flex in deep-league formats if both Shepard and Slayton cannot suit up.

Collin Johnson Targeted Seven Times In Week 3 Loss
New York Giants wide receiver Collin Johnson caught 5-of-7 targets for 51 yards in Sunday's 17-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. He tied running back Saquon Barkley with seven targets for the team lead in Week 3. The Giants lost wide receivers Sterling Shepard (hamstring) and Darius Slayton (hamstring) to hamstring injuries. Johnson could see a significant boost in fantasy value if Slayton and Shepard are sidelined for an extended time. The 24-year-old is a name to monitor in deep-league formats. Johnson, Kadarius Toney, and Kenny Golladay are currently the Giants' only healthy wide receivers.

Jaguars Surprisingly Waive Collin Johnson
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they waived wide receiver Collin Johnson on Tuesday. Johnson's release comes as a surprise, as he seemed likely to make the team before the announcement due to his strong camp and the lack of other options after the team also waived Laquon Treadwell and released Phillip Dorsett II. Johnson is still a promising young wideout at 6-foot-6 222 pounds, and he's likely to be picked up by another club in the coming days. Johnson's release could foreshadow a coming wide receiver addition, but as of right now journeymen Tavon Austin and Jamal Agnew are set to battle for fourth wide receiver duties. Johnson excels in the red zone, and he has an outside shot at carving out a fantasy-relevant role this season if he lands with the right team following his departure from Jacksonville.

Collin Johnson Offers Fantasy Upside as Red-Zone Weapon
Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Collin Johnson has emerged as an under-the-radar weapon that could provide value for fantasy managers. Andy Staples of The Athletic identified Johnson as the Jaguars' biggest fantasy football sleeper, adding that he expects "the 6-foot-6 receiver from Texas to be a frequent red-zone target." He finished 2020 with just 18 catches for 272 yards and two touchdowns, but there is plenty of reason to be excited about the 23-year-old's upside. After all, the Jaguars went through a quarterback upgrade this offseason, which should lead to a more successful offensive attack. Meanwhile, look for new head coach Urban Meyer and his coaching regime to utilize depth players and exploit Johnson's talent this season. The former fifth-round pick is worth rostering in deeper leagues in case he breaks out in 2021.
