Corey Davis News
New York Jets wide receiver Corey Davis said that he signed with the team under the impression that quarterback Sam Darnold would be the starter in 2021. "The situation, it is what it is. Obviously I'm coming in with my understand that Sam (Darnold) is the guy. That doesn't scare me away at all. I've seen Sam do great things," Davis said. The Jets own the No. 2 pick in next month's draft, and there's been speculation that they could move on from Darnold this offseason. Davis' comments don't mean that the Jets won't take a quarterback at second overall in the draft. The 23-year-old quarterback didn't improve at all in 2020 with nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 12 games, but he could put up better numbers with Davis as his top target if he remains in the team's plans next season.
Former Tennessee Titans wide receiver Corey Davis reached an agreement on a three-year, $37.5 million deal with the New York Jets on Monday, according to sources. The deal includes $27 million in guarantees. The fifth overall pick of the 2017 draft cashed in after the best season of his career in 2020. The 26-year-old hauled in 65 catches on 92 targets for 984 yards (15.1 yards per reception) and a career-high five touchdowns in 14 games (12 starts). With Breshad Perriman a free agent, Davis should operate as Gang Green's unquestioned No. 1 receiver in 2021 and beyond alongside second-year wideout Denzel Mims and slot man Jamison Crowder. However, New York's situation under center will impact Davis' eventual 2021 fantasy value. If the Jets can upgrade over Sam Darnold, Davis will be a coveted fantasy wideout.
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Corey Davis caught five of 11 targets for 39 yards in Sunday's 41-38 win over the Texans. He tied A.J. Brown for the team lead in targets, but Davis appeared to be fighting the ball all day and dropped at least three very catchable passes. As a result, the 25-year-old came up short of his first career 1,000-yard campaign after coming into the game needing only 55 more yards. Davis will try to regain his focus before next Sunday's wild-card round clash with the Ravens. Davis was a boom or bust play for most of the regular season. It'll be interesting to see how fantasy owners value Davis heading into next season, which will be his fifth year.
