Titans Coaches Like Corey Davis

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Corey Davis' future with the team beyond 2020 depends on how he performs in this season, but the coaches really like him. A former first-round pick (fifth overall) has disappointed in the NFL so far, but he does a lot of things well and is a willing blocker in the running game for a run-first offense. The 25-year-old won't see many chances on a team dedicated to the running game, but Davis is a post-hype deep sleeper worth taking a flier on in the late stages of drafts for receiver depth. Davis has 142 catches (246 targets) for 1,867 yards and six touchdowns in 42 career games over three seasons with the Titans. Most fantasy owners probably won't touch him at this point.

Titans Declining Corey Davis' Fifth-Year Option

The Tennessee Titans have reportedly declined wide receiver Corey Davis' fifth-year option, which means that the former fifth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft will now be a free agent after the 2020 NFL season. Davis has already been replaced as the team's No. 1 receiver by 2019 draftee A.J. Brown, and now his future with the Titans franchise seems to be on shaky ground. Nothing would stop the Titans from agreeing on a long-term deal with Davis, but they don't see enough promise in him to pay the approximately $15 million it would have cost in 2021 to pick up the option. The Titans are a run-heavy team and Davis ranks outside the top 40 in yards by wide receivers since 2017, so this move is understandable. In 2020 he'll have one more chance to show the Titans why they picked him so high, but even with that extra motivation, he ranks outside of our top-50 fantasy wide receivers in redraft leagues at this moment.

Titans Not Expected To Exercise Corey Davis' Option

The Tennessee Titans aren't expected to pick up wide receiver Corey Davis' fifth-year team option for the 2021 season. If the Titans were to pick it up, Davis would be owed around $15.8 million in 2021. The 25-year-old former fifth overall pick in 2017 had 65 catches for 891 yards in his sophomore season in 2018, but he regressed in 2019 when he had only 43 receptions for 601 yards and two touchdowns. Rookie A.J. Brown became the Titans go-to No. 1 receiver last year. Tennessee envisioned Davis becoming that guy when they drafted him, but he's failed to live up to expectations in his three seasons. Heading into 2020, he'll be a WR4/5 without much upside in this run-first offense.
