Long-time, respected defensive tackle Corey Peters officially announced his retirement on Thursday after a 12-year career that included long stints with the Atlanta Falcons and Arizona Cardinals. The 34-year-old veteran was originally a third-round selection by the Falcons in 2010 out of Kentucky. He spent the first five years of his career in Atlanta before spending six years in the desert with the Cardinals. Peters played in 12 games (three starts) with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022 and finished with 20 tackles (11 solo) and five tackles for loss. All in all, Peters will end his NFL career with 336 tackles (214 solo), 19 sacks, 55 tackles for loss, 40 QB hits, one interception, 10 pass breakups, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries (one returned for a touchdown).
The Arizona Cardinals placed defensive lineman Corey Peters on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Sunday and elevated defensive lineman Jonathan Ledbetter to the active roster from the practice squad in a corresponding move. The Cardinals have dealt with some COVID-19 issues this week, losing top pass-rusher Chandler Jones and head coach Kliff Kingsbury for the Week 6 matchup against the Cleveland Browns due to positive tests. Peters also tested positive and will be unavailable on Sunday. The 33-year-old has just six tackles in five games and has been serving as a rotational piece on Arizona's defensive line this year. The Cardinals defense will be a low-end streaming option for fantasy managers against Cleveland this weekend.
Cardinals Defense Loses Corey Peters, Jordan Phillips To Injury
The Arizona Cardinals placed defensive lineman Corey Peters (knee) and Jordan Phillips (hamstring) on Injured Reserve on Thursday, thereby officially ruling the duo out for their Week 11 matchup against Seattle. Domata Peko was brought in to help serve as depth on the defensive front, but with both players having logged a pair of sacks in 2020, the Cardinals Defense will be playing short-handed in their absence. While the unit began the year on a roaring start from a sack perspective, their upcoming matchups with the Seahawks, Patriots and Rams limits their season-long intrigue. Factor in the absence of two defensive line stalwarts, and fantasy managers are best served looking elsewhere for defensive production.
Cardinals Defense Loses Corey Peters For The Season
Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury said that defensive tackle Corey Peters (knee) will miss the rest of the season because of his knee injury. Peters has started nearly every game for the team in the last five seasons, so his loss will be a big one for Arizona's defensive line the rest of the way. The 32-year-old is dealing with a torn patellar tendon. The Cardinals run defense will be a bit more vulnerable without Peters in the fold the rest of the way. He racked up 15 tackles and two sacks before his injury this season. Arizona's D has allowed just four rushing touchdowns all season, which ties them for the fourth-fewest in the NFL.
