The Packers announced on Sunday the release of quarterback Danny Etling. The 29-year-old has bounced around multiple practice squads since being drafted by the Patriots in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft. However, he has yet to find a team willing to keep him. Etling appeared to have a chance to earn the No. 2 spot behind Jordan Love entering the season. But now the Packers are down to Sean Clifford and Alex McGough, a duo with limited experience. As a result, it's logical to assume the front office would look to add a veteran arm, especially with Love having a mediocre training camp.
The Green Bay Packers released quarterback Danny Etling on Tuesday, according to a source. Etling threw for 220 yards and a touchdown in preseason action this summer, but Green Bay will go with Jordan Love as the only other signal-caller on the active roster behind future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers. Etling was drafted in the seventh round in 2018 by the New England Patriots, but he has yet to play in a regular season game in the NFL. The 28-year-old will be looking to latch onto another team's practice squad for the 2022 campaign.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Danny Etling completed his only pass for zero yards but finished with four carries for 48 yards and a touchdown during their 20-10 win over the Saints on Friday, much of which came on one big play. Etling took off down the field for a 51-yard touchdown run, which happened to occur while starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers was announcing. Jordan Love still projects to be the team's immediate backup, but Etling definitely made an impact during his time on the field.
New England Patriots quarterback Danny Etling now appears to be New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Etling. With a tough path to making the roster as a quarterback but an easier path to finding snaps on a receiver-needy Patriots squad, Etling will try to make the team as a wideout. Etling showed off some of his athleticism as a quarterback at LSU, but he wasn't used as a receiver in college, so we don't have a lot to go off in terms of predicting what this move will look like. For now, Etling should be ignored in all fantasy formats.
