The Arizona Cardinals placed running back Darrel Williams (hip) on Injured Reserve on Wednesday and claimed defensive lineman Trysten Hill after he was released by the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday. Williams had just returned in the Week 8 loss to the Minnesota Vikings from a knee injury that had sidelined him for a few games. He will now be forced to miss at least the next four games. Williams was seen on crutches on Wednesday. The Cardinals are hoping James Conner (ribs) can return this weekend against the Seattle Seahawks, but if he can't, Eno Benjamin and Keaontay Ingram are in line to serve as the top two backs. Benjamin has been the better fantasy back with 36 carries for 151 yards and a touchdown while catching 11 of 15 targets for 72 yards in three starts with Conner sidelined.
Darrel Williams, Matt Prater Active Against Vikings
Arizona Cardinals running back Darrel Williams (knee) and kicker Matt Prater (hip) are both active for the Week 8 contest against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Williams will return from a two-game absence and James Conner (ribs) remains out. However, Eno Benjamin has been solid as the team's lead back the last two weeks with both Williams and Conner sidelined, so the Cardinals could continue to give Benjamin the majority of the backfield touches as they ease Williams back into the fold. Williams will be a risky touchdown-dependent RB3/flex in deeper leagues now that he's back. Benjamin still has plenty of fantasy upside this week, but the return of Williams takes a little shine off of him. Prater will return for the first time since Week 4, but fantasy managers can probably find safer kicking options this week.
Arizona Cardinals running back Darrel Williams (knee) is considered a game-time decision for Week 8 against the Minnesota Vikings. Williams has been limited in practice this week and could return to action on Sunday after missing the last two games. James Conner (ribs) will miss his third straight game, so Eno Benjamin, who has been the starter for the last two weeks, should at least half a share of the backfield duties this weekend against Minnesota. Williams could have his offensive snaps limited if he's active on Sunday, so Benjamin would probably still be the better fantasy play. In the last two games as the starter, Benjamin has had 27 carries for 129 yards and a touchdown while adding seven receptions on eight targets for an additional 49 yards.
James Conner, Darrel Williams Limited Again Thursday
Arizona Cardinals running backs James Conner (ribs) and Darrel Williams (knee) were both limited in practice for the second straight day on Thursday. Conner and Williams have both missed the last two games, but they could be trending towards returning this Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, which would push Eno Benjamin back to a depth role in Arizona. With both Conner and Williams out the last two weeks, Benjamin has received 27 carries for 129 yards and a touchdown while catching seven of his eight targets for 49 yards. If both Conner and Williams return against Minnesota, the Cardinals could have a three-way committee approach, making it hard to trust anyone in this backfield for fantasy purposes.
James Conner, Darrel Williams At Practice Wednesday
Arizona Cardinals running backs James Conner (ribs) and Darrel Williams (knee) were both seen taking part in practice on Wednesday. Conner and Williams have both missed the last two games, but the fact that they are back out there for the first day of practice this week is a sign that they could both return to action this weekend against the Minnesota Vikings. Eno Benjamin has taken over the lead-back role in their absences, rushing 27 times and catching seven passes in two starts. If one or both of Conner and/or Williams return in Week 8, Benjamin will fall back into a change-of-pace role and won't be worth including in starting fantasy lineups. Continue to keep an eye on Conner's and Williams' practice status the rest of the week.
Darrel Williams Ruled Out For Thursday Night Football
Arizona Cardinals running back Darrel Williams (knee) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the New Orleans Saints. He will miss his second consecutive game due to a knee injury. James Conner (ribs) is a game-time decision, while Eno Benjamin (foot) is expected to play Thursday night. The 27-year-old's next chance to return will be in Week 8 against the Minnesota Vikings. Benjamin could be Arizona's lead back for the second straight week if Conner is ruled out ahead of Thursday's contest.
James Conner, Darrel Williams Listed As DNPs Monday
Arizona Cardinals running backs James Conner (ribs) and Darrel Williams (knee) were both listed as non-participants on Monday's estimated practice report. Both Conner and Williams were inactive for the Week 6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, and neither RB might be ready to return on a quick turnaround this Thursday night against the New Orleans Saints. Fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting Conner to be available to them in starting lineups this week. With Conner and Williams out, Eno Benjamin led the team with 15 carries, gaining 37 rushing yards. He also caught all three of his targets for an additional 28 yards. But it was quarterback Kyler Murray who led the Cardinals in rushing with 100 yards on 10 attempts against Seattle.
Arizona Cardinals running back Darrel Williams (knee) has a sprained knee and has been ruled out for Week 6 against the Seattle Seahawks. James Conner (rib) is also dealing with a rib issue, but his status will become more clear later in the week. Jonathan Ward (hamstring) has been placed on Injured Reserve, which is why the Cardinals signed running backs Corey Clement and Ty'Son Williams to their practice squad on Wednesday. Eno Benjamin ended up handling eight carries for 25 yards and a touchdown while also catching three passes for 28 yards on a season-high 54 percent of the offensive snaps in last week's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. It remains to be seen how Arizona's backfield will shake out this Sunday, but Benjamin should once again have a bigger role, even if Conner is active.
Arizona Cardinals running back Darrel Williams (knee) is questionable to return to Sunday's matchup versus the Eagles. James Conner (ribs) also exited this one, although Williams didn't benefit, as he only saw three carries for nine yards before succumbing to the ailment. Nonetheless, with Jonathan Ward (hamstring) ruled out, the team is now down to Eno Benjamin as the only healthy back, potentially for the remainder of Week 5.
Darrel Williams Could Have A Prominent Role In Week 3
Arizona Cardinals running back Darrel Williams could have a significant role in the offense in Week 3 with James Conner (ankle) being listed as a game-time decision for Sunday's matchup with the Rams. Williams found the endzone last week in relief of Conner, but split carries evenly with running back Eno Benjamin in the process. The Rams aren't an overly encouraging matchup, but they have given up 211 rushing yards through two weeks, allowing 4.1 yards per carry. Williams figures to be more valuable than Benjamin, but both backs should split the load pretty evenly. Williams figures to handle the early-down work while Benjamin is used more in a third-down role. Both could be on the FLEX radar if Conner is ruled out, but the split workload makes them both risky options.
