Darrel Williams News
Kansas City Chiefs running back Darrel Williams rushed three times for negative two yards and a touchdown in Week 2 versus the Baltimore Ravens. Williams didn't see much action on the evening as the backup to Clyde Edwards-Helaire, but he secured a two-yard touchdown in the second quarter to give the Chiefs a 21-14 lead at the time. Edwards-Helaire remains the top option in the Chiefs backfield, but Williams has been the clear backup over Jerick McKinnon early on in the season and should remain the top insurance policy for Edwards-Helaire managers.
Kansas City Chiefs running back Darrel Williams (head) will likely be available to play Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns. Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle) will likely play as well, meaning Williams will be the backup. Nevertheless, Williams performed well against the Browns during the playoffs last season. Williams had 13 carries, four receptions, and a total of 94 yards. He won't see that same workload for Week 1; however, in deeper leagues, Williams could be considered a FLEX option in a matchup that could be high scoring. DFS contestants should avoid adding Williams to their Week 1 lineup due to his uncertain workload. With the addition of Jerick McKinnon, Williams could split his workload with McKinnon on a weekly basis.
The Kansas City Chiefs released an updated depth chart ahead of their Week 3 preseason game versus the Minnesota Vikings and listed running back Darrel Williams ahead of veteran Jerick McKinnon. Throughout the preseason, Williams has struggled in his limited action with four carries for eight yards and one reception for eight yards. McKinnon on the other hand has rushed the ball six times for 23 yards and caught five passes for 42 yards and a touchdown. Despite McKinnon looking better in the preseason, Williams has been with the Chiefs for the past three seasons and knows the offense very well. Sophomore running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire is set to be the No. 1 option out of the backfield this season, but insuring him would be wise for CEH managers. If CEH were to get hurt, Williams could handle the early downs and McKinnon would likely be the third down back with higher upside in PPR leagues. The Chiefs Week 3 preseason game versus the Minnesota Vikings could be a key factor in determining the backup running back for the team and managers should keep a close eye on the competition tonight.
Kansas City Chiefs running back Darrel Williams is in an interesting position entering 2021. After finishing last season with just 285 scrimmage yards on 57 touches, Williams will look to break out this fall. Clyde Edwards-Helaire, the team's...
