Darrel Williams News
Free-agent running back Darrel Williams is signing an undisclosed deal with the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday, according to a source. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes vouched for Williams, telling the Cardinals he was a back that he liked and trusted. With Clyde Edwards-Helaire missing time with an injury last year, Williams stepped up and produced over 1,000 scrimmage yards with eight touchdowns and zero fumbles on 191 touches for the Chiefs. James Conner, who had an impressive bounce-back season in Arizona in 2021, will remain the team's primary back, but Williams will be a highly coveted handcuff in fantasy. Williams had 558 rushing yards and added 452 receiving yards last year, so he could have some PPR value as an RB3/flex, even if Conner remains healthy.
Free-agent running back Darrel Williams visited the Arizona Cardinals on Monday, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. The long-time Chief hit the open market this offseason after posting a career-high 1,010 scrimmage yards and eight touchdowns in 2021. The bulk of his work came while operating as a starter in place of the injured Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Evidently, Williams is taking his time in finding a new home. He likely won't return to the Chiefs after they signed Ronald Jones II, so don't be surprised to see Williams take similar visits in the near future. Undoubtedly, he would be a good fit for the Cardinals, serving as James Conner's backup after Chase Edmonds departed for Miami in March.
The Kansas City Chiefs tried to reach an agreement with running back Darrel Williams ahead of the negotiating window that opens on Monday, but the two sides haven't struck a deal, according to sources. The 26-year-old is headed to free agency following a breakout season with over 1,000 scrimmage yards and eight touchdowns. Williams took advantage of a Clyde Edwards-Helaire injury last year and had a career-high 144 carries for 558 yards (3.9 yards per carry) and six touchdowns on the ground, adding 47 receptions (57 targets) for 452 receiving yards and two more TDs. The Chiefs could always bring him back in free agency, but there's also a good chance he finds a better offer on the open market. His 2022 fantasy value will depend on which backfield he's playing for.
