Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles (hip) will retire at the end of the season, ending his 15-year career. Sproles is currently out for the season with a torn right hip flexor. "I gave it everything I had on every play," Sproles said. The 36-year-old pint-sized back ran for 66 yards on just 17 carries in 2019, his sixth season with the Eagles. The three-time Pro Bowler spent three years with the Saints and six to begin his career with the Chargers. He was a fourth-round pick back in 2005, and he's No. 5 on the all-time list for all-purpose yards (19,696). In his prime, Sproles was one of the most versatile and explosive backs in open space.
Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles will miss the rest of the 2019 season due to a torn hip flexor. The veteran back suffered the injury originally in Week 5 but was able to return in Week 9. Sproles missed most of last season due to injury as well, which led him to return for one more year. After two straight injury-plagued seasons, however, this could be it for the former Saint and Charger. Jordan Howard, Miles Sanders, and Boston Scott remain on the Eagles running back depth chart.
Darren Sproles Not an Option in Starting Lineups for Week 11
Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles is not a fantasy option for a Week 11 game against the New England Patriots. The Patriots bring their top defense to Philadelphia on Sunday and could give the Eagles offense fits. Sproles is healthy now, but his role remains mostly on special teams. He's not a starting option in any standard formats.
Darren Sproles Handles Three Offensive Touches in Week 9
Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles (quad) handled three touches on offense in his return to the lineup. He ran the ball twice for seven yards and hauled in a catch for three more yards. Sproles committed a fumble, but the Eagles were able to recover it. He will continue in his role as a key member of the return team, but Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders will keep their roles as heads of the backfield.
Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles (quadriceps) got in a full practice on Friday and has been taken off the final injury report for Week 9 against the Bears. The 36-year-old hasn't played since Oct. 6 and isn't guaranteed to play a ton of snaps behind Jordan Howard and rookie Miles Sanders. Sproles has 15 carries for 59 yards in five games, adding five receptions for 21 yards. He cannot be trusted in fantasy lineups, but his presence puts a damper on Sanders' RB3/flex value in point-per-reception leagues. The matchup against Chicago is already tough for Howard and Sanders.
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson (abdomen) and running back Darren Sproles (quadriceps) both returned to the practice field on Wednesday. Jackson has been out since getting injured in Week 2, but he has a chance to suit up in Week 9 against the Bears, although the Eagles could play it safe and hold him out one more week with the team's bye coming in Week 10. If Jackson returns, he'll give the Eagles offense the much-needed deep threat they've been lacking in his absence. He'd be a boom-or-bust WR3 in a tough matchup. Jackson's absence would also push Mack Hollins out of three-wide sets. Sproles has been out since Oct. 6. The 36-year-old isn't much of a factor anymore, but he could be an RB3/flex in deep PPR leagues if rookie Miles Sanders (shoulder) doesn't play this weekend.
Darren Sproles Back to Practice; Could Play in Week 9
Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles (quad) is expected to return to practice this week and has a chance to suit up for a Week 9 game against the Chicago Bears. Sproles hasn't played or practiced since getting hurt in Week 5, and he's far from a sure thing in Week 9. Since the Eagles have a Week 10 bye, it's more likely Sproles sits out one more week to fully heal before coming back for Week 11. Regardless of when he returns, Sproles won't be a fantasy option except for in return leagues and some of the deepest rosters.
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson (abdomen), running back Darren Sproles (quadriceps) and left tackle Jason Peters (knee) have all been ruled out for Week 8 against the Bills after missing practice all week. Jackson hasn't played since Week 2 and is without a timetable to return. The absence of his field-stretching prowess is really hurting Philly's offense. Alshon Jeffery, Mack Hollins and Nelson Agholor will remain in three-wide sets, but only Jeffery is fantasy relevant. Rookie Miles Sanders will remain the team's pass-catching back without Sproles, but he'll be a low-upside RB3/flex against Buffalo's strong defense. Not having Peters on the blind side is another downgrade to a slumping offense in a bad spot on the road.
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson (abdomen) and running back Darren Sproles (quadriceps) both missed practice all week and have officially been ruled out for Week 7 against the Cowboys on Sunday night. Jackson is closer to returning than Sproles, but there remains no timetable for either player. D-Jax has been out since getting hurt in Week 2, and the Eagles offense is surely missing their deep threat, as Mack Hollins hasn't come close to replicating Jackson's production as a field-stretcher. Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor and Hollins will continue to operate in three-receiver sets in the big divisional showdown on Sunday evening.
Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles has become an afterthought in the Eagles backfield and is not a starting option in any format in Week 6. After getting 12 touches in Week 1, Sproles has totaled just eight touches since then. He's almost exclusively on special teams at this point and would only develop fantasy value if injuries struck the Eagles running backs ahead of him on the depth chart. For now, he is considered "week to week" with a quad injury and won't even be on the field to return punts. He can be safely dropped in most formats.
