Free-agent running back Darwin Thompson has agreed to a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday. This is the second day in a row that the Raiders have signed a former Chiefs running back after signing Damien Williams on Friday. However, Thompson isn't quite as big of a signing as Williams. Thompson has bounced around a bit since his two seasons with the Chiefs. In 2021, Thompson spent time on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad. After that, Thompson was on the Seattle Seahawks roster last season, but hasn't actually played in an NFL game since 2020. This is basically a depth move for the Raiders, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect much of an impact from Thompson.
Seattle Seahawks running back Darwin Thompson rushed six times for 34 yards and one touchdown during Thursday's preseason game against the Chicago Bears. He also turned his lone target into a seven-yard reception. Formerly a depth piece in the Kansas City backfield, Thompson hopes to latch onto the Seahawks' roster in 2022. He's currently competing for a role with Travis Homer and DeeJay Dallas, both of whom also looked solid on Thursday. Given his lack of experience in the Seattle offense, he could be the odd man out when rosters trim down.
Darwin Thompson Signs With Tampa Bay’s Practice Squad
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed free agent running back Darwin Thompson to their practice squad. The Chiefs released running back Darwin Thompson on Monday but ultimately landed in Tampa Bay. He rushed for 97 yards on 27 carries and one touchdown while hauling in 7-of-11 targets for 65 yards and a touchdown in 2020. Thompson won't have much of a role with his new team and will be behind Ronald Jones, Leonard Fournette, and Giovani Bernard on the running back depth chart. Fantasy managers can avoid Thompson in all upcoming drafts.
The Kansas City Chiefs released running back Darwin Thompson on Monday. He rushed for 97 yards on 27 carries and one touchdown while hauling in 7-of-11 targets for 65 yards and a touchdown in 2020. The 24-year-old logged 64 carries for the Chiefs in both of his seasons with the team. Kansas City will roll with Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Jerick McKinnon, and Darrell Williams as their top running backs. Thompson will look to latch onto another team, searching for RB depth.
Kansas City Chiefs running back Darwin Thompson took advantage of his expanded role in Week 17 versus the Los Angeles Chargers. Thompson saw all but three of the Chiefs carries on Sunday and was the only running back on the field for the top seeded Chiefs. With the Chiefs resting most of their starters, Thompson was able to pick up 45 yards on 14 carries for a touchdown and he caught all seven of his targets for 65 yards and a touchdown. Thompson is unlikely to have a big role in the playoffs for the Chiefs, but it was still a positive sign for his overall value moving forward. With Le'Veon Bell set to become a free agent, Thompson will compete with Darrel Williams to backup Clyde Edwards-Helaire in 2021.
While Le'Veon Bell will be active, Kansas City Chiefs running back Darwin Thompson is expected to see the bulk of the carries in the team's Week 17 contest against the Chargers, as KC looks to keep their starters healthy. A popular preseason sleeper back in 2019, Thompson's never really gotten going in the regular season. He has 13 carries for 52 yards this season but has upside as a DFS value play on Sunday based on his projected volume.
Kansas City Chiefs running back Darwin Thompson was not able to make much of an impact in the AFC Championship game on Sunday. Thompson had one rushing attempt for seven yards in the victory over the Tennessee Titans. Damien Williams continues to be the workhorse while LeSean McCoy (illness) didn't play in this one. Thompson has only two carries this postseason, so he won't be much of an option for Super Bowl 54.
Kansas City Chiefs running back Darwin Thompson wasn't involved much in the first half of the season, but saw most of his carries in the month of December. The Chiefs have been banged up in the backfield, which has led to more opportunities for Thompson. However, Damien Williams and LeSean McCoy are both healthy heading into Sunday's playoff game versus Houston. It's unclear how much action everyone is going to see, but Thompson will probably be lost in the shuffle. Williams is most likely going to be the only running back in KC worth using in DFS contests.
Kansas City Chiefs running back Darwin Thompson didn't see too many chances with Damien Williams dominating in the backfield all game long. Thompson carried the ball four times for 17 yards in the victory over the Chargers in Week 17. LeSean McCoy was active, but didn't see any carries in this one with Williams doing most of the work. Thompson has shown some promise over the last month, but likely won't have a big role in the playoffs. The Chiefs get to sit back and enjoy watching Wild Card weekend while they have a first-round bye week.
Kansas City Chiefs running back Darwin Thompson has been worked into the offense more often since the beginning of December. The Chiefs are banged up in the backfield and need Thompson to step up and help the team. Both Darrel Williams (hamstring) and Spencer Ware (shoulder) are on the IR for the rest of the season. Damien Williams and LeSean McCoy are the only other healthy backs on the roster. The Chiefs are attempting to limit McCoy's workload, so it's unclear if he'll even play in Week 17. Williams and Thompson could be the only active backs on the roster for their matchup with the Chargers. However, Thompson remains a low-end option for deep leagues and should be avoided in DFS contests.
