Steelers Release David DeCastro

The Pittsburgh Steelers released offensive guard David DeCastro (ankle) on Thursday, saving $8.75 million in salary cap space. According to the NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, DeCastro has had his ankle evaluated recently after having issues with it for quite some time. He had surgery on it before last season and could consider retirement. Pittsburgh had free-agent guard Trai Turner in for a visit last week and remain in talks with him as a potential replacement for DeCastro on the offensive line. Turner, a five-time Pro Bowler, recently proclaimed himself 100 percent healthy after playing in just nine games for the Los Angeles Chargers last season. The Steelers ranked dead last in rushing offense last year, and their offensive line was a bigger reason why.

Steelers Hopeful David DeCastro Will Be Ready

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive guard David DeCastro missed another practice on Friday and has barely practiced in training camp with a lower-body issue, but head coach Mike Tomlin is hopeful that DeCastro will be ready for the Monday night game in Week 1. DeCastro has missed just two regular season games in nine years in the league, so there seems to be a good chance he'll be on the field. The 30-year-old former first-rounder in 2012 has been a Pro Bowler each of the last five seasons, and he's also had two first-team All-Pro selections (2015, 2017) in that span. Losing DeCastro for any stretch of time would be a big blow to Pittsburgh's offensive line.

David DeCastro, Marcus Gilbert Practice In Full

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive guard David DeCastro (hand) and offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert (hamstring) both practiced in full on Wednesday after missing Week 3. It's looking like both players have a good chance to return in Week 4 against the Ravens. That would be music to the ears of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and the ground game (James Conner) in a tough matchup with Baltimore. Both DeCastro and Gilbert said they are feeling much better this week and hope to return this Sunday.

David DeCastro, Marcus Gilbert Out Monday

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive guard David DeCastro (hand) and offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert (hamstring) are both inactive in Week 3 against the Buccaneers on Monday night. Wide receiver Justin Hunter and quarterback Mason Rudolph are also healthy scratches. With both DeCastro and Gilbert out this evening, Pittsburgh's protection and running game could suffer.

David DeCastro, Marcus Gilbert Not Practicing

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive guard David DeCastro (hand) and offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert (hamstring) did not practice on Friday. It means that both offensive linemen are in danger of missing the Week 3 game on Monday night against the Buccaneers. That would make things a bit tougher on running back James Conner as he continues to fill in for Le'Veon Bell.

David DeCastro Unsure If He'll Play In Week 3

Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro offensive guard David DeCastro (hand), who sat out in Week 2, said it's too early to tell if his broken right hand will heal enough to allow him to play in Week 3 on Monday against the Buccaneers. Before last Sunday, DeCastro hadn't missed a game due to injury since the middle of the 2013 season, a string of 72 straight starts. He has been wearing a wrap on his hand while he waits for the swelling to subside, and he missed all three practices last week. B.J. Finney replaced DeCastro in Week 2 and played 84 snaps.

David DeCastro Has Fractured Hand

Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro guard David DeCastro (hand) is dealing with a fractured hand, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. However, DeCastro said he was fine after the tie in Week 1 against the Browns. There's a chance DeCastro could play through the injury, but he might not be as effective. Any time missed by DeCastro will be a downgrade to the team's running game.

David DeCastro Signs Six-Year Deal

The Pittsburgh Steelers and G David DeCastro agreed to terms on a six-year contract extension worth $58.07 million on Thursday. The Steelers awarded DeCastro with a six-year deal on Thursday. The four-year veteran is considered a top-16 guard in the NFL who has proven that he is a durable commodity at his position. He only missed one game in the past three years and specializes in his run-blocking ability. According to Pro Football Focus, the Steelers have the 14th ranked offensive line in the league and could take a leap into the top 10 if they continue their success in 2016.
