Devonta Freeman News
Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman (groin) has looked like his usual explosive self during organized team activities this week. Freeman was a huge bust last year, playing in just two games and carrying the ball 14 times for 68 yards before being shut down for the season. He's still just 27 years old, though, and should see more of a workhorse role in the backfield with Tevin Coleman now in San Francisco. Ito Smith will spell Freeman here and there, but there is bounce-back potential for Freeman if he can stay on the field. He could be a nice value pick as a low-end RB1/high-end RB2 in 2019.
Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn told "The Morning Show with John and Hugh" on 92.9 The Game that running back Devonta Freeman (groin) will not return in the final two games of the season. Freeman was placed on Injured Reserve before the Week 7 game due to a foot injury, and he would've been able to return for the final two games. But it doesn't make sense to rush him back with the team's playoff hopes already dead. Freeman had a bust of a season, rushing only 14 times for 68 yards in two games. Because of injuries, his days as a clear lead back may be over. Tevin Coleman will lead this backfield the rest of the way and has RB2 upside due to volume. Brian Hill and Jeremy Langford will back him up with rookie Ito Smith going on IR this week.
Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman (groin) has been rehabbing in Philadelphia and head coach Dan Quinn isn't ruling him out for the remainder of the season. While Freeman has a shot to play before Week 17, it doesn't make much sense for the Falcons to risk re-injury after Freeman had surgery earlier this year. The Falcons are currently out of playoff contention. Tevin Coleman and rookie Ito Smith will continue to split the workload going forward. Fantasy owners shouldn't be holding out hope that Freeman can help them this year.
Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn said that running back Devonta Freeman (groin), who had successful groin surgery on Thursday, could come off Injured Reserve to play again this year. However, his return will likely depend on where the team stands in the playoff picture. Freeman would be eligible to return on Dec. 23 against the Panthers. By then, most fantasy leagues are already in the thick of the playoffs, so Freeman can be dumped in single-year formats. In his absence, Tevin Coleman and rookie Ito Smith will share the backfield duties.
Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman (groin) will undergo surgery on his groin in Philadelphia on Thursday, according to a source. Freeman was placed on Injured Reserve on Tuesday and will be out for at least the next eight weeks. It means he's unlikely to contribute much to close out the year if he even returns. He'll go down as a big early-round bust for fantasy owners. Tevin Coleman and rookie Ito Smith will continue to split the backfield with Freeman sidelined. Coleman will remain an RB2, while Smith will be more of a touchdown-dependent RB3/flex.
