Drew Sanders Out 4-6 Weeks With Foot Injury

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton said that linebacker Drew Sanders (foot) is dealing with a ligament injury in his foot and will be out "north of four to six weeks." However, the Broncos are relieved it's not a tendon injury, which means the 23-year-old could return to the team before the start of the regular season on Sept. 7 against the Tennessee Titans. Sanders suffered the foot injury in training camp practice on Saturday. Fellow linebacker Alex Singleton broke his thumb in practice on Monday and is going to miss at least a week as well, so the Broncos are running a little thin at the linebacker spot in camp. The good news is neither Sanders nor Singleton are expected to miss the start of the regular season. The 24-year-old Sanders has played in 21 games (four starts) since debuting in 2023 and has 32 tackles (17 solo) and a sack.

Drew Sanders to Miss Regular Season Time with Foot Injury

Denver Broncos linebacker Drew Sanders (foot) has suffered a tendon injury in his foot and will require further testing to determine his recovery timeline, according to Ian Rapoport. Rapoport reports that Sanders is "not expected back before the season begins" and will be out "an extended period of time." It's ominous news for Sanders, who was limited to just four games last season due to an Achilles tear he suffered last April. The 24-year-old was expected to play a key role in Denver's defense this season, but it appears the team will have to make do without him for at least the start of the regular season. The Broncos now have Alex Singleton and free-agent addition Dre Greenlaw penciled in as starters at off-ball linebacker, with Justin Strnad in place as a key reserve.

Broncos Have High Expectations For Drew Sanders

The Denver Broncos made it clear at last week's NFL Combine that Drew Sanders will be a permanent part of the linebacker room in 2025, especially with Cody Barton and Justin Strnad both set to be unrestricted free agents next week and Alex Singleton (knee) coming off an ACL injury. Head coach Sean Payton and general manager George Paton said Sanders will work this offseason at inside linebacker, and they have high expectations for him. "We think Sanders can be a starter in this league at linebacker," Paton said. It doesn't mean the Broncos won't add to the position in free agency, though, and Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Zack Baun and Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton could be targets for the Broncos. Baun was a former draft pick when Payton was with the Saints, so he could be the big free-agent splash Denver makes this offseason.
