Elliot Fry Reaches Injury Settlement With Broncos

The Denver Broncos waived kicker Elliot Fry (undisclosed) off Injured Reserve on Tuesday after reaching an injury settlement. It means Fry will now be able to sign with another team for the 2023 season. Brett Maher is still the leading candidate to be Denver's opening-day kicker in Week 1 against the division-rival Las Vegas Raiders. It's unclear exactly what the 28-year-old Fry is dealing with, and it remains to be seen if another team will give him a chance to compete for a kicking job this summer. He didn't kick at all in the NFL last year and spent the 2021 season with the Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs, going 4-for-5 on field-goal attempts in just two games.

Broncos Sign Elliott Fry To Compete For Kicker Job

The Denver Broncos released its long-time kicker Brandon McManus last week and signed Elliott Fry on Wednesday to compete to replace him. Fry has appeared in three NFL games since leaving the University of South Carolina in 2017, making five of his six career field goal attempts. It's early in the offseason so Fry is no lock to make the roster and win the starting job, but if the Broncos offense bounces back under new head coach Sean Payton, he'll be on the fantasy radar -- especially since the altitude and thin air in Denver makes things easier on kickers.

Jaguars Cut Andrew Mevis, Sign Elliott Fry

The Jacksonville Jaguars cut rookie kicker Andrew Mevis and signed veteran kicker Elliott Fry on Friday after Mevis wildly missed three field-goal tries during training camp warmups -- one of his misses hit former Dallas Cowboys head coach Dave Campo. Fry has only appeared in three games in his time with the Bears, Ravens, Panthers, Buccaneers, Falcons, Chiefs, Packers and Bengals. The 27-year-old has made five of his six field goals and five of seven extra points in his two NFL seasons. He went 14-for-14 on field-goal attempts for the Orlando Apollos of the AAF in 2019. Mevis was signed as an undrafted free agent this offseason to compete with Ryan Santoso. Fantasy managers should avoid the kicking situation in Jacksonville.

Falcons Sign Elliott Fry

The Atlanta Falcons signed kicker Elliott Fry to their practice squad on Thursday with Younghoe Koo (groin) expected to miss time with a groin strain. There's a chance that Fry is elevated to the active roster in time to make his NFL debut on Monday night against the Packers. The Falcons have no other place kicker on their roster, so we'd expect Fry to get the nod this week unless they bring in another kicker between now and Monday. The Falcons have scored plenty of points through three weeks, making Koo fantasy relevant in the majority of leagues, but Fry should be avoided if he gets a shot because of his lack of experience.

Buccaneers Claim Kicker Elliott Fry

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have claimed kicker Elliott Fry off waivers, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The 25-year-old signed with the Panthers at the conclusion of the 2019 season, but never got a chance to be with the team essentially. The undrafted player out of South Carolina has been with three previous NFL teams, the Ravens, Bears, and Panthers, but has yet to make a kick in the league. The Buccaneers also have kicker Matt Gay, who went 27-for-35 last season on kicks, good for 77 percent. He also went 43-for-48 on extra points. With Fry now on the team, a kicking competition seems realistic on the Bucs.

Elliott Fry Making Run At Starting Kicking Job

Chicago Bears kicker Elliott Fry is in a battle with teammate Eddy Pineiro to earn the starting kicking job when the team opens the season against the Packers on September 5. The former AAF kicker slipped on the grass and missed a field goal on a rainy day at camp but rebounded to go 8-for-10 in drills, including a 60-yard field goal. The Bears kicking situation has been in flux since they cut ties with embattled kicker Cody Parkey. This competition should play itself out all the way up to the beginning of the season.
