Eric Fisher Wants To Play In 2022

Former No. 1 overall pick and offensive tackle Eric Fisher said he wants to play this year but will be selective. He's already turned down offers from nine teams so far. It's unclear if the Dallas Cowboys are one of those teams, but they certainly have a need now after losing starting left tackle Tyron Smith (hamstring) until December with an avulsion fracture of his left knee. The 31-year-old former Kansas City Chiefs standout spent last year with the Indianapolis Colts and was very average in 15 regular season starts. The two-time Pro Bowler will surely land with a team before the start of the regular season if he's serious about playing in 2022.

Eric Fisher Not Expected To Re-Sign With Colts

Indianapolis Colts Pro Bowl left tackle Eric Fisher isn't expected to re-sign with the team despite the fact that the two sides have spent recent weeks trying to work out a new deal, according to sources. Fisher is poised to hit the open market next week. The 31-year-old two-time Pro Bowler played in 15 games in his first season with the Colts last year. He was better as a run-blocker than a pass-blocker and struggled at times less than 10 months removed from a torn Achilles. If the Colts cannot bring Fisher back, they'll likely have to replace him through either free agency or the draft. Not only are the Colts looking to replace quarterback Carson Wentz, but they could be in the market for a new blind-side protector for their next signal-caller.

Eric Fisher Expected To Start Sunday

Indianapolis Colts left tackle Eric Fisher (Achilles), whose recovery from a torn Achilles happened much faster than imagined, is expected to start in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Rams, according to a source. The two-time Pro Bowl tackle will be a much-needed addition to help protect quarterback Carson Wentz's blind side against a very strong Rams defensive line and pass rush. It's great news for the Colts offense as a whole, but Fisher's presence on Wentz's blind side shouldn't suddenly make the signal-caller an exciting fantasy play on Sunday against the top defense in the NFL from a year ago. Wentz should only be in starting lineups in superflex leagues.

Eric Fisher Ruled Out For Week 1

Indianapolis Colts offensive lineman Eric Fisher (Achilles) has been ruled out for the regular-season opener against the Seattle Seahawks. The Colts are being cautious with their star tackle as he works his way back from an Achilles injury he sustained in the 2020 postseason. His absence from the o-line only hurts QB Carson Wentz and the Colts offense. The 30-year-old was recently activated from the COVID-19 list, but isn't up to speed on his recovery from an Achilles injury. Julien Davenport replaces Fisher in the starting o-line and will be protecting Wentz's blind side on Sunday.

Eric Fisher Joins Colts On One-Year Deal

Pro Bowl left tackle Eric Fisher is signing a one-year, $9.4 million deal with the Indianapolis Colts on Monday, according to a source. The former No. 1 overall pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013 will now be quarterback Carson Wentz's blind-side protector in 2021. The 30-year-old tore his right Achilles before the Super Bowl last year and was cut by KC. The Colts won't rush Fisher back, though, so there's a chance that he's not ready to play until early October. Coming out of this year's NFL draft, the left tackle position was still a big area of need for the Colts, but this signing takes care of that and makes their offensive line even more elite. It's excellent news as Wentz tries to bounce back from a disastrous final season with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020. It's also great news for second-year running back Jonathan Taylor.

Eric Fisher Talking To Multiple Teams

Former Kansas City Chiefs Pro Bowl left tackle Eric Fisher (Achilles) has been talking to numerous teams and is a player to watch after the NFL draft. The Chiefs released the eight-year veteran just before free agency kicked off and have explored the possibility of bringing him back, but that might be a mute point now that Kansas City just traded a handful of picks (including a first-rounder this year) to acquire offensive tackle Orlando Brown from the Baltimore Ravens. Fisher will be out for several months after suffering a torn Achilles in last year's AFC Championship game. It's part of the reason why the Chiefs released him in the first place, along with right tackle Mitchell Schwartz.

Chiefs Cutting Eric Fisher, Mitchell Schwartz

The Kansas City Chiefs are releasing left tackle Eric Fisher and right tackle Mitchell Schwartz on Thursday. Fisher was the No. 1 overall pick in 2013 and spent his entire career with the Chiefs, starting 113 games and earning two Pro Bowl nods, including last season. But he suffered an Achilles injury in the AFC Championship game and was unable to play in the Super Bowl. Schwartz is considered the top right tackle in the league when healthy, but he missed 10 games last year with a back injury and recently had back surgery. Retirement can't be ruled out for Schwartz. He earned All-Pro honors in 2018. Cutting Schwartz clears $6.255 million in salary cap space, while Fisher's release saves the team $11.968 million with $3.18 million in dead money. Without Fisher and Schwartz in the Super Bowl, KC's offensive line was unable to protect Mahomes. So it's fair to wonder how their offensive line will hold up in 2021, especially with four other O-linemen set to be free agents.

Eric Fisher, Mitchell Schwartz Good To Go For Sunday

Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackles Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz were activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Thursday and are good to go for Week 11 against the division-rival Raiders. It's great news for KC's offensive line, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the running game as they look to avenge their loss earlier this season to the Raiders. Mahomes completed only 22 of his 43 pass attempts against Las Vegas in Week 5, but he still managed to throw for 340 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He also had one of his two rushing scores in that contest. Mahomes will have all of his offensive weapons available and will once again be an elite must-start QB1 in the rematch.

Eric Fisher, Mitchell Schwartz Placed On COVID-19 List

The Kansas City Chiefs placed both starting offensive tackles Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday. It sounds as though Fisher and Schwartz have been deemed as high-risk close contacts of another individual who tested positive for COVID-19. That makes them candidates to clear the league's protocols and play in Week 11 against the division-rival Raiders. While nobody is benching any of the Chiefs top offensive players like Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill or Travis Kelce, losing one or both of Fisher and/or Schwartz for this weekend's divisional showdown would be a downgrade for KC's high-flying offensive attack.

Eric Fisher On Track To Return Monday Night

Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Eric Fisher (groin) put in a full practice on Thursday, which was his first full practice since undergoing surgery on a sports hernia in mid-September. He's on track to return for Monday night's divisional showdown against the Chargers in Mexico City. The team's starting left tackle has been out since Week 2, so his return will be a big boost for the offensive line and the protection of quarterback Patrick Mahomes. That will be notable against a Chargers team with a pretty good pass rush.
