Former Colts tight end Erik Swoope is signing with the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, according to a source. It's just a depth signing, as Swoope will be buried on the depth chart behind George Kittle, Jordan Reed and Ross Dwelley. The 28-year-old didn't play at all in 2019 and recorded just 23 receptions on 32 targets for 384 yards and four touchdowns in four seasons with the Colts. His best season came in 2016 when he caught 15 passes for 297 yards and one touchdown in 16 games (four starts). Swoope will be a complete afterthought in all fantasy formats.
The Oakland Raiders have waived tight end Erik Swoope after picking him up in late-May. The 27-year-old missed the entire 2017 campaign only to play in seven games for the Colts last season, catching eight passes for 87 yards. Swoope could land a backup role elsewhere, but its highly unlikely he enters the fantasy conversation. The move further secures Darren Waller and Luke Willson as the potential starters come Week 1, but fourth-round rookie Foster Moreau could also factor in at some point. Waller carries the highest ceiling of the bunch, and could wind up as a poor mans Jared Cook this season for the Silver and Black.
The Oakland Raiders signed free-agent tight end Erik Swoope to an undisclosed deal on Wednesday. The 6-foot-4, 255-pound tight end spent his first five seasons with the Colts. He has made six starts in 24 career games, catching 23 passes for 384 yards (16.7 average) and four touchdowns. He appeared in seven games for the Colts last year (two starts), catching eight passes for 87 yards and a career-high three scores. The Raiders released quarterback Landry Jones in a corresponding move. Oakland has Derek Carrier, Luke Willson, rookie Foster Moreau and Darren Waller on their tight end depth chart, so Swoope could certainly carve out a significant pass-catching role with his new team. He'd strictly be a deep sleeper at tight end in fantasy drafts.
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Ryan Grant (ankle) and tight end Erik Swoope (knee) are not practicing on Monday after missing Week 8. Both players had extra time to heal up during their Week 9 bye, but it appears they might not be able to return in Week 10 against the Jaguars. Both players are off the fantasy radar at this time.
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Ryan Grant (ankle) and tight end Erik Swoope (knee) have both been ruled out for Week 8 against the Raiders. It'll be Grant's second straight missed game. With T.Y. Hilton back in the fold, Grant is the team's third receiver, at best, when he's healthy, so he's not much of a fantasy option moving forward. Swoope saw some work in recent weeks with Jack Doyle missing time, but now that Doyle is primed to return to the fold, Swoope will be the third tight end.
Indianapolis Colts tight end Erik Swoope (knee) left the game early in Week 7 against the Bills and is questionable to return. Swoope caught his only target for a 17-yard touchdown before leaving this game, so he rewarded fantasy owners that were desperate enough to start him. Eric Ebron will remain the main pass-catching tight end with Jack Doyle (hip) also out of this one.
Erik Swoope Prospers With Limited Work on Thursday Night
Indianapolis Colts tight end Erik Swoope caught three passes for 44 yards and a touchdown in the team's 24-38 loss to the New England Patriots on Thursday. Swoope would have had a forgettable performance but-for his 13-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter when fellow tight end Eric Ebron briefly went to the sideline with a leg injury. Fantasy owners shouldn't expect much from Swoope going forward, as he was clearly outpaced in the receiving department by Ebron and presumed No. 1 option Jack Doyle should return from a hip injury in Week 6 when the Colts take on the New York Jets.
The Indianapolis Colts promoted tight end Erik Swoope from the practice squad to the active roster on Saturday and waived cornerback Lenzy Pipkins in a corresponding move. The team also signed quarterback Phillip Walker to the practice squad. Swoope caught one pass for 13 yards in the season opener against the Bengals. He's merely depth for the Colts with Jack Doyle (hip) out for Week 3 against the Eagles. In Doyle's absence, Eric Ebron becomes a great TE1 play this weekend.
The Indianapolis Colts waived tight end Erik Swoope on Thursday and promoted defensive tackle Jihad Ward from the practice squad to the 53-man roster in a corresponding move. Swoope had just one catch for 13 yards in the season opener and was behind Jack Doyle and Eric Ebron on the depth chart.
Indianapolis Colts tight end Erik Swoope caught three passes for 23 yards and a touchdown in the team's final preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Although the score took place late in the fourth quarter, Swoope showed exceptional concentration in making the catch to help secure the come-from-behind win. Swoope isn't truly competing for a starting role in the Colts offense, but his performance was necessary to show that he can be a helpful contributor. Fantasy owners can safely leave him to the waiver wire, as Jack Doyle and Eric Ebron will command all of the receiving work at the tight end position.
