Golden Tate Signs With Titans

The Tennessee Titans signed veteran wide receiver Golden Tate to their practice squad on Tuesday. The Titans need some help at the position with both Julio Jones (hamstring) and Marcus Johnson (hamstring) on Injured Reserve. Johnson will miss the rest of the season. No. 1 wideout A.J. Brown (chest) was also injured in the Week 11 loss to the Houston Texans and could be questionable to play in Week 12 against the New England Patriots. Tate, 33, hasn't played yet in 2021 after catching 35 of his 52 targets for 388 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games (four starts) for the New York Giants in 2020. There's a chance that Tate is added to the active roster soon, but he'll need time to learn the offense and will still be behind Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Chester Rogers and rookie Dez Fitzpatrick.

Golden Tate's Wish List Includes A Few Teams

Free-agent wide receiver Golden Tate remains available on the open market after being released by the New York Giants following two disappointing seasons. The 32-year-old hasn't received much interest, but he wants to continue playing and mentioned the Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts and Los Angeles Rams as three teams he'd be interested in joining. Tate wouldn't mind reuniting with quarterback Matthew Stafford in LA after enjoying three 1,000-yard seasons with Stafford in Detroit. The veteran wideout caught just 35 of 53 targets for 388 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games (four starts) for New York in 2020. He was benched at one point and dealt with a calf injury, so Tate will have to prove he's worth a spot on fantasy rosters again if he signs with a new team.

Giants Release Golden Tate Wednesday

The New York Giants released wide receiver Golden Tate on Wednesday, according to a source. Cutting the 32-year-old veteran wideout will save the Giants $6.2 million in salary cap space. Tate was with the G-Men the last two seasons and caught 84 passes for 1,064 yards and eight touchdowns, but he caught just 35 passes on 52 targets for 388 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games (four starts) for the team in 2020. Tate was unhappy with his role in the offense last season and voiced his displeasure, leading to his benching. It's not a surprise that the Giants moved on to help free up some salary cap space. A Pro Bowler in 2014, Tate still has something left, although he'll likely serve in a complementary role wherever he lands next.

Golden Tate's Season Could Be Over

New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate (calf) missed practice on Wednesday, and his season could be over after being inactive in the Week 16 loss to the Ravens. Tate did limited stationary bike work with trainers on the side on Wednesday. The 32-year-old veteran has been a fantasy afterthought this year with just 35 catches on 52 targets for 388 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games. Even if Tate is active for the Week 17 must-win game against the division-rival Cowboys, he shouldn't be in any fantasy lineups. With Tate inactive last week, Sterling Shepard had a season-high 77 receiving yards and a touchdown out of the slot. Shepard will have some nice WR3/flex upside again this week against a bad Cowboys secondary.

Golden Tate Ruled Out

New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate (calf) has been ruled out for Week 16 against the Ravens. Tate hasn't really been on the fantasy radar this year in redraft leagues, as he's been buried on the depth chart behind Sterling Shepard, Darius Slayton and tight end Evan Engram in 2020. The 32-year-old has just 35 catches on 52 targets for 388 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games (four starts) this season. His absence on Sunday against Baltimore will mean more looks for Shepard, Slayton and Engram, while Dante Pettis could also see some run in three-receiver sets. However, New York's pass-catchers will be facing a tough matchup with the Ravens and won't particularly have high fantasy ceilings this weekend, even with quarterback Daniel Jones (ankle, hamstring) trending toward a return.

Evan Engram, Golden Tate Limited Wednesday

New York Giants tight end Evan Engram (calf), wide receiver Golden Tate (calf), defensive back Darnay Holmes (knee) and offensive lineman Matt Peart (ankle) were limited in practice on Wednesday. Engram was questionable to play last week but suited up and caught four of his seven targets for 46 yards in the Week 15 loss to the Browns. The 26-year-old Pro Bowler will have more upside if quarterback Daniel Jones (ankle, hamstring) returns to action, but he'll also have a difficult matchup against the Ravens. Given the lack of exciting tight end options, Engram will still be a low-end TE1 for fantasy managers, albeit one with a low floor. Tate has just three catches in his last two games and has become a fantasy afterthought in this mediocre offense.

Golden Tate Makes One Catch Versus Arizona

New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate made just one catch on two targets in a loss to the Cardinals on Sunday. The entire Giants offense was stuck in neutral all afternoon with quarterback Daniel Jones (hamstring) playing through an injury. Tate doesn't have more than four catches in a game since Week 3 and his targets have been sporadic all season. Tate shouldn't be trusted in the fantasy playoffs in a tough matchup with the Browns.

Golden Tate Not Recommended In Week 14

New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate hasn't been good for fantasy most of the season and doesn't appear on the verge of breaking out ahead of the playoffs in most fantasy leagues. Tate has just three games this season with more than five targets and just two touchdowns in 10 games. Worst of all, the veteran receiver is yet to eclipse 50 yards in any game thanks to a ferocious diet of short-yardage targets on the rare occasions he does get the ball. Most fantasy managers should be able to find a better WR option on waivers.

Golden Tate Makes Four Catches Versus Former Team

New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate caught all four of his targets for 30 yards in a win in Seattle Sunday. Tate's four catches were tied for the team-lead with Evan Engram as they were the only Giants to catch more than one pass. Hopefully for the Giants pass catchers, Daniel Jones (hamstring) can return next week. If it's still Colt McCoy under center it would be tough to trust Tate in a matchup with the Cardinals in Week 14.

Golden Tate Targeted Nine Times Versus Bengals

New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate caught four passes for 36 yards in a win over the Bengals on Sunday. The story of the game for Tate, however, was getting a season-high nine targets as Darius Slayton (undisclosed) had his playing time severely limited due to what head coach Joe Judge called "some bumps and bruises." Unfortunately for Tate, starting QB Daniel Jones (hamstring) also went down with an injury so it seems Colt McCoy will take over under center for the time being. With a backup QB, it'll be hard to trust Tate in fantasy as New York's targets have been impossible to predict behind Sterling Shepard and Evan Engram.
