Hayden Hurst Visiting With Chargers

Free-agent tight end Hayden Hurst (concussion) is visiting the Los Angeles Chargers with the intention to sign with the team, according to a source. Hurst was recently released by the Carolina Panthers. The 30-year-old veteran signed a three-year, $21.75 million deal with the Panthers last offseason but missed the final eight games last year due to a serious post-traumatic amnesia concussion. There were questions as to whether Hurst would even continue his career, but he's apparently recovered and plans to continue playing in 2024. Veteran Gerald Everett is no longer in LA, but they still have Donald Parham Jr. and recently signed Will Dissly to the TE room, so Hurst would be battling for playing time with those two if he were to sign with the Chargers. Hurst, a former first-rounder (25th overall) in 2018, caught just 18 passes for 184 yards and one touchdown in Carolina last year.

Panthers Releasing Hayden Hurst

The Carolina Panthers are releasing tight end Hayden Hurst (concussion) on Tuesday after just one season with the team. Hurst missed the final eight games of the 2023 season due to a pretty serious concussion, although he's recovered now and should be ready for training camp this summer. The 30-year-old signed a three-year, $21.75 million deal with Carolina prior to last season. Before his concussion, he wasn't really a factor in what was a pretty bad Panthers offense led by rookie quarterback Bryce Young last year. Hurst caught just 18 receptions for 184 yards and a touchdown before suffering his head injury in Week 10. Fantasy managers probably won't be looking at Hurst in 12-team leagues in 2024, but depending on his health and where he lands, he could bounce back.

Hayden Hurst Clears Concussion Protocol

Carolina Panthers tight end Hayden Hurst (concussion) said he cleared the league's concussion protocol on Sunday and is looking forward to a fresh start. Hurst suffered a serious concussion in Week 10 and never played again in the 2023 season. The 30-year-old was diagnosed with post-traumatic amnesia and was eventually placed on Injured Reserve. In his nine games played in his first year in Carolina, Hurst caught only 18 passes for 184 yards and one touchdown in the worst offense in football in which rookie quarterback Bryce Young struggled mightily. He signed a three-year, $21.75 million deal last offseason, so Hurst will be back in 2024 with a new head coach and new general manager running things in Carolina. Depending on whether a new coaching staff can get more out of Young and this offense, Hurst could improve if he can stay healthy.

Hayden Hurst Going On Injured Reserve

The Carolina Panthers are placing tight end Hayden Hurst (concussion) on Injured Reserve on Friday, which will end his 2023 season. Hurst hasn't played since suffering a serious concussion in Week 10 against the Chicago Bears and was later diagnosed with post-traumatic amnesia. He had returned to practice on a limited basis last week but was not allowed to return to game action in Week 14 and has now been shut down for the rest of the year as a precaution. The 30-year-old said he didn't expect this to be a career-threatening injury, but we at least won't see Hurst until next fall. He finishes the 2023 campaign (his first in Carolina) with only 18 catches for 184 yards and one TD in nine games. Tommy Tremble (hip) and Ian Thomas (ankle) are the next men up at the position in Carolina but aren't really attractive at all in fantasy on this one-win team.

Hayden Hurst Logs DNP, Tommy Tremble Limited Thursday

Carolina Panthers tight end Hayden Hurst (concussion) was a non-participant in Thursday's practice, while teammate Tommy Tremble (hip) remained limited. Hurst was diagnosed with post-traumatic amnesia prior to Week 14's games due to the concussion that he suffered in Week 10, so the Panthers are going to want to get that completely sorted out before allowing the veteran to return to any kind of game action. We wouldn't expect Hurst to be able to play on Sunday against his former team, the Atlanta Falcons, but his status at Friday's session will provide more clarity. Tremble is nursing a hip injury but would seem to be the most likely of Carolina's TEs to suit up in Week 15, with Ian Thomas (ankle) not spotted on Thursday. Yet to surpass 25 receiving yards in any of his 12 outings, however, Tremble would be a barely-there streaming choice against a Falcons team giving up the eighth-most fantasy points per game to opposing TEs.

Hayden Hurst Not Practicing To Begin Week 15

Carolina Panthers tight end Hayden Hurst (concussion) is not practicing on Wednesday ahead of the Week 15 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons. Hurst was a limited participant in practice last week for the first time since suffering a concussion in Week 10, so his practice status being downgraded is not a good sign for his return. The veteran was diagnosed with traumatic amnesia by an independent neurologist from the hit he took in Week 10, and the Panthers are not likely to take any chances with his health. There's a chance Hurst does not play against this season. Even if he does, he won't enter the fantasy radar given the Panthers' offensive struggles.

Hayden Hurst Ruled Out For Week 14

Carolina Panthers tight end Hayden Hurst (concussion) has officially been ruled out for the Week 14 game on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. Hurst actually returned to practice this week on a limited basis, but he was diagnosed with post-traumatic amnesia from the concussion he suffered in Week 10 and will now miss his fourth straight game. Hurst said his head injury isn't career-threatening, but this is not a matter he nor the Panthers will take lightly. Tommy Tremble (hip) missed the Week 13 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is questionable to play this weekend, as well as Stephen Sullivan (shoulder), so the Panthers could be down to Ian Thomas as their starting tight end against the Saints. Fantasy managers should continue to avoid Carolina's tight end situation.

Hayden Hurst, Tommy Tremble Limited Thursday

Carolina Panthers tight ends Hayden Hurst (concussion), Tommy Tremble (hip) and Stephen Sullivan (shoulder) were limited in Thursday's practice session. Hurst suffered a serious concussion in Week 10 that resulted in post-traumatic amnesia. It's nice to see him back on the practice field and his head injury isn't believed to be career-threatening, but we shouldn't expect Hurst to return in Week 14 against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Tremble did not play in the Week 13 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he could be Carolina's top tight end this Sunday against the Saints if he gets the green light. None of the Panthers' tight ends have been realistic TE2 streamers during their one-win season. Stay away.

Hayden Hurst's Head Injury Isn't Career-Threatening

Carolina Panthers tight end Hayden Hurst (concussion) doesn't think the post-traumatic amnesia he was diagnosed with by an independent neurologist after suffering a concussion will be career-ending. "I'm doing better each day," Hurst said. "It's not going to end my career, just being cautious as I come back. Should be another week or two." Hurst appeared as a limited participant in Wednesday's practice for the first time since suffering the concussion on Nov. 9 against the Chicago Bears. The 30-year-old has been out for the last three games and is likely to miss a few more before returning. He has only 18 catches for 184 yards and one touchdown in nine games this year, putting him off the fantasy radar. With Tommy Tremble (hip) missing last week, the Panthers were down to Ian Thomas and Stephen Sullivan.

Hayden Hurst Dealing With Post Traumatic Amnesia

Jerry Hurst, the father of Carolina Panthers tight end Hayden Hurst (concussion), said that his son has been diagnosed with post traumatic amnesia by an independent neurologist from the hit he took against the Chicago Bears back on Nov. 9. "Slow recovery, don't know when he'll be back," Jerry Hurst said. It helps explain why Hurst has been out for each of the Panthers' last three games. However, he returned to a limited practice on Wednesday and could have a chance to be cleared from the league's concussion protocol in order to suit up in Week 14 against the New Orleans Saints. It's a situation the Panthers will definitely not take lightly, most likely choosing to err on the side of caution. Carolina's tight ends aren't fantasy relevant, and Hurst has only 18 receptions on 32 targets this year for 184 yards and one touchdown in nine games played.
