Jake Rudock, Matt Cassel to Compete for Backup QB Job
The Detroit Lions appear to be giving equal time to quarterbacks Jake Rudock and Matt Cassel in practice so far. Those two will compete to back up Matthew Stafford next season. Neither will hold much, if any, fantasy relevance, barring an injury to Stafford himself.
Jake Rudock Generating Trade Interest as Backup QB
Lions backup quarterback Jake Rudock is generating interest from general managers as a potential trade chip. Rudock had a nice game against the Patriots in preseason last week, going 10-for-13 with 113 yards. Rudock, a former sixth round pick out of Michigan, was nearly taken from the Lions last year when they tried to place him on their practice squad. Instead, he made the roster and took over the backup duties to Matthew Stafford. Rudock may ultimately be dealt, but is unlikely to be a starting quarterback this season barring an injury. Should he step into a starting role, he would be worth an add in two QB leagues.
