Denver Broncos wide receiver Jalen Virgil (knee) has fully recovered from surgery for a torn meniscus that he suffered in the team's second preseason game on Aug. 19 against the San Francisco 49ers, according to a source. Virgil was placed on season-ending Injured Reserve as a result, but the undrafted rookie in 2022 is eagerly awaiting his return for the start of spring drills in April. In nine games (one start) in his rookie year in 2022, the 25-year-old caught just two of his five targets for 75 yards and a touchdown for the Broncos. He also worked on special teams in the return game. If Virgil earns a spot on Denver's 53-man roster to open up the 2024 regular season, he'll most likely serve in a special teams role again while also providing receiver depth, but he won't be a fantasy asset.
Jalen Virgil Injures Knee In Second Preseason Game
Denver Broncos wide receiver Jalen Virgil (knee) left the team's second preseason game on Saturday night against the San Francisco 49ers early with a knee injury after getting hurt on a 50-yard catch on the final play of the first half. Virgil was tackled at the one-yard line, and the clock ran out on the first half as backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham spiked the ball to try and set up one more play. The 50-yard reception was Virgil's only catch of the contest. The 25-year-old was eventually carted to the locker room and didn't return, but it remains to be seen how serious his injury is or if he'll be able to play in the preseason finale next Saturday against the Los Angeles Rams. In his rookie season in 2022, Virgil had just two receptions for 75 yards and a score in nine games (one start).
Jalen Virgil Comes Out Of Nowhere With 66-Yard Touchdown
Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Jalen Virgil came out of nowhere in the Week 10 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday for his first career reception, which just so happened to be a 66-yard touchdown strike from quarterback Russell Wilson in busted coverage from the Titans secondary. The 24-year-old from Appalachian State was mostly a return specialist in his college days, and he had yet to play a snap in the NFL with the Broncos before this game. It's safe to say that this was an anomaly with Jerry Jeudy (ankle) getting injured early in the game on Sunday. Fantasy managers shouldn't read anything into this fluky long TD. If Jeudy misses time with his injury, Kendall Hinton will likely operate as the Broncos' No. 2 receiver.
Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Jalen Virgil turned five targets into three catches for 83 yards during Saturday's preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys. His biggest play was a 42-yard reception thrown by Brett Rypien. Virgil went undrafted out of Appalachian State, where he was solely a special teamer and returned three kickoffs for touchdowns over his final two NCAA seasons. He faces an uphill battle to make the team in 2022, but Saturday's performance did help his case.
