James Robinson News
The New England Patriots are signing free-agent running back James Robinson to a two-year deal worth up to $8 million on Wednesday, according to a source. Robinson became a free agent this offseason when the New York Jets decided not to tender him a contract for the 2023 season. The Jets acquired Robinson in a trade from the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022, but he was barely used, carrying the ball 29 times for 85 yards in four games for Gang Green. Rhamondre Stevenson will enter the 2023 campaign as the Patriots' primary back, but Robinson could carve out a role behind him with Damien Harris on the free-agent market. The Patriots also have Pierre Strong Jr. and Ty Montgomery, among others, and we know how Bill Belichick likes to rotate his RBs.
New York Jets running back James Robinson will not be tendered by the organization, which makes him a free agent. The 24-year-old was acquired by the team mid-season, but only ended up playing in four games with the team. He is more than a year removed from a torn Achilles that he suffered at the end of the 2021 season. Robinson has shown promise as he rushed for over 1,000 yards during his rookie season. There should be organizations willing to give him a chance to earn a role as a depth option. It's hard to predict his fantasy value without knowing where he's going. However, Robinson is unlikely to be a starter anywhere and would most likely be a change-of-pace back. It's safe to assume he probably won't have a lot of value heading into next season.
New York Jets running back James Robinson is once again a healthy scratch for the Thursday night game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 16. Rookie Zonovan Knight (ankle) was questionable for this game, but he is suiting up, leaving Robinson as the odd man out of the Jets backfield yet again. Knight should see the majority of the carries against the Jags, with Michael Carter serving in a change-of-pace role. Ty Johnson is the No. 3 back. Robinson begin the year as a solid fantasy contributor with Jacksonville before second-year back Travis Etienne Jr. took over. Since being traded to the Jets, Robinson has only 29 carries for 85 yards and no touchdowns, catching two of three targets for five yards and a touchdown in four games. He's become waiver-wire material.
