James Robinson News
Free-agent running back James Robinson worked out for the Indianapolis Colts on Monday, according to a source. Robinson is looking to latch on with yet another team before the start of the 2023 regular season this Thursday night. The former undrafted rookie has already been cut by the New England Patriots and New York Giants this offseason. The Colts could really use some running back depth with Jonathan Taylor (ankle) set to miss the first four games of the regular season and Zack Moss (arm) questionable to play in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Even if Robinson signs with Indy, he'll be well off the fantasy radar behind the likes of Deon Jackson, rookie Evan Hull, Jake Funk and Jason Huntley.
The New York Giants released running back James Robinson on Sunday, according to a source. Robinson's fall continues. The 25-year-old former undrafted free agent had over 1,000 yards rushing in his first NFL season with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020 and had a season-high eight rushing scores the following season, but an Achilles injury suffered late in December of 2021 sapped him of his explosiveness. Since his first two seasons with the Jaguars, Robinson has played for the Patriots, Jets and Giants but hasn't been able to stick on a roster for very long. He should be able to land with another organization as backfield depth before the 2023 regular season, but he might have to work his way up from a practice squad.
New York Giants running back James Robinson carried the ball 10 times for 55 yards in the team's 32-24 loss to the cross-town rival Jets in Saturday's preseason finale. That included a 28-yard run in the middle of the second quarter. The ex-Jaguar is a question mark to make the final roster with Matt Breida and rookie Eric Gray seemingly making the cut. If the Giants decide to keep a fourth runner, Robinson, Gary Brightwell, and Jashaun Corbin are among the candidates. Even if he survives the cut day, Robinson is not worthy of being drafted in fantasy football this season.
