J.D. McKissic Released By Washington

The Commanders released running back J.D. McKissic on Tuesday. The 29-year-old played in Washington during the previous three seasons, amassing 1,159 receiving yards, 672 rushing yards, and seven total touchdowns. However, he's been banged up the last few years, most recently missing time in 2022-23 because of a neck injury. While McKissic is a quality pass-catcher out of the backfield, he'll need to prove he's healthy before any team will consider signing him. But even if he's fortunate enough to find a new home, his fantasy upside will remain limited to deep PPR formats.

J.D. McKissic Done For The Season

Washington Commanders running back J.D. McKissic (neck) has landed on the injured reserve list and won't play again this season. The 29-year-old had four touchdowns in 2021-22. However, he hasn't had any through eight games this season. McKissic will undergo rehab over the next couple of months, although it's uncertain if he'll be ready to go for the start of the 2023-24 campaign. In the meantime, Antonio Gibson, the No. 2 option on the depth chart, could see a few additional targets out of the backfield moving ahead, while Brian Robinson should handle most of the touches on the rushing end.

J.D. McKissic Won't Play Against Texans

Washington Commanders running back J.D. McKissic (neck) has been ruled out for the Week 11 matchup against the Houston Texans. It appears the 29-year-old will miss his third straight game due to a neck issue. His absence will mean more reps for Antonio Gibson and Brian Robinson in the backfield. Both players split up the workload, so it's tough to pick between the two. However, Robinson normally gets the early down work, while Gibson fills in as the third-down back. They will both have low-end RB2 value for this upcoming matchup against Houston.

J.D. McKissic Absent Again Thursday

Washington Commanders running back J.D. McKissic (neck) was not seen at practice for the second straight day this week on Thursday. McKissic hasn't seen the practice field since injuring his neck in Week 8, and he seems likely to miss a third straight game this weekend against the Houston Texans, barring a miraculous recovery in the next couple of days. With McKissic injured, both rookie Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson have been successful sharing Washington's backfield. Both running backs found the end zone in the Week 10 over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. Robinson will continue to carry the load on early downs, with Gibson working as the third-down back. Both RBs qualify as low-end RB2 options for fantasy managers against Houston this weekend.

J.D. McKissic Misses Wednesday's Practice

Washington Commanders running back J.D. McKissic (neck) was a non-participant at Wednesday's walkthrough practice. He hasn't practiced since Week 8 and is trending in the wrong direction toward suiting up this Sunday against the Houston Texans. The 29-year-old has rushed for 95 yards on 22 carries while catching 27 passes for 173 yards over eight games in 2022. Antonio Gibson and Brian Robinson would lead Washington's backfield again if McKissic is ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against Houston.

J.D. McKissic Unable To Practice Wednesday

Washington Commanders running back J.D. McKissic (neck) missed another practice on Wednesday. McKissic has missed the last two games and hasn't practiced at all either, so he's trending toward missing another contest in Week 11 against the Houston Texans. The Commanders have said that they will play it safe with the 29-year-old's neck injury. If he misses another game this weekend, both rookie Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson are worth using in starting fantasy lineups. In Monday night's win over the Philadelphia Eagles, Robinson had 26 carries for 86 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Meanwhile, Gibson carried 14 times for 44 yards and a score and added three catches for another 14 yards.

J.D. McKissic Won't Play On Monday Against Eagles

Washington Commanders running back J.D. McKissic (neck) has been ruled out for the Week 10 contest on Monday night against the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles. It will be the second straight game that McKissic has missed, and the team is going to be cautious with his neck injury, so there's no guarantee he'll be back on the field in Week 11 against the Houston Texans. With the 29-year-old sidelined again, it's great news for pass-catching back Antonio Gibson, although he only caught two of three targets for 11 yards in the Week 9 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. In the previous two weeks, though, Gibson caught 10 of 11 targets for 76 yards and two touchdowns. Rookie Brian Robinson should continue to handle most of the early down work, but Gibson has plenty of appeal as a low-end RB2 in PPR leagues this weekend.

J.D. McKissic Misses Another Practice Friday

Washington Commanders running back J.D. McKissic (neck) missed another day of practice on Friday. McKissic didn't play last week and the Commanders are expected to be cautious with him, so it seems unlikely that he'll suit up in Week 10 against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. With McKissic likely out again this week, Antonio Gibson will continue to have an expanded role in the backfield alongside rookie Brian Robinson. However, despite McKissic's absence in Week 9, Gibson had just 47 scrimmage yards on 13 touches. Still, Gibson will be an intriguing play in PPR leagues this week after he had 10 catches on 11 targets for 76 yards and two touchdowns in Weeks 7 and 8.

J.D. McKissic Absent From Thursday's Practice

Washington Commanders running back J.D. McKissic (neck) didn't practice Thursday. He was ruled out ahead of the Week 9 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. The 29-year-old was set to visit a neck specialist, but the team hasn't provided a further update. Washington will be careful with their veteran back, and the injury sounds like he could miss more time. Antonio Gibson and Brian Robinson will continue to split the Commanders' backfield while McKissic is sidelined. McKissic will have to practice in some fashion if he has any shot of suiting up against the Philadelphia Eagles Monday night.

J.D. McKissic Won't Play In Week 9

Washington Commanders running back J.D. McKissic (neck) will not play in Week 9 against the Minnesota Vikings. Head coach Ron Rivera said that McKissic has already or will see a specialist for his neck and will approach the injury with caution. It sounds as though the 29-year-old could be in danger of missing more time beyond this weekend. Antonio Gibson had seven receptions for 58 yards and his second straight receiving touchdown last weekend and should benefit from more dump-off passes from quarterback Taylor Heinicke against Minnesota, making him an attractive PPR flex option. Rookie Brian Robinson should continue to operate mostly on early downs, and Jonathan Williams should serve as the No. 3 with McKissic out.
