New York Jets wide receiver Jeff Smith had his best game of the season by far in Week 15, catching four passes for 77 yards on five targets. Smith had been targeted a total of six times this season coming into the game, but with Corey Davis (concussion) and Denzel Mims (concussion) both forced to miss time, Smith ended up with a much bigger role than usual. He could have a big role again on Thursday night against the Jaguars if Davis and Mims can't play, but he won't be a recommended fantasy option outside of the deepest leagues.
New York Jets wide receiver Jeff Smith was productive at the team's first day of mandatory minicamp practice on Tuesday and got a lot of run with the first-team offense. Smith is currently ahead of Denzel Mims for the No. 5 receiver spot, strictly based on practice repetitions, and Smith is also a top special-teamer. Mims ran with the second- and third-team offense on Tuesday. The former second-rounder had just eight catches for 133 yards in 11 games last year and has yet to score a touchdown in the NFL. He looks good physically this offseason, but he's still buried on the receiver depth chart behind Corey Davis, rookie Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore and Braxton Berrios with training camp a month away. Perhaps the Jets will trade Mims this year.
The New York Jets have re-signed exclusive-rights free-agent wide receiver Jeff Smith, cornerback Javelin Guidry, safety Elijah Riley and defensive lineman Tim Ward. Smith has spent all three of his NFL seasons with the Jets, compiling 26 receptions for 292 yards and no touchdowns on 56 targets in 25 total games (seven starts) in that span. He had just eight catches on 17 targets for 113 yards in 12 games (three starts) for the Jets last season. However, he did see an increased role on special teams as a gunner on kickoffs and punts. Smith will return to Gang Green for a fourth season, but he's well off the fantasy radar as primarily a special teams player.
New York Jets wide receivers Elijah Moore (concussion) and Jeff Smith (concussion) both missed practice on Wednesday. Smith was in a car crash on his way to the team's facility on Wednesday. Both players will need to be cleared from the league's concussion protocol in order to play in Week 4 against the Tennessee Titans. Smith is mostly a special teams player (just four targets), while Moore is third on the team with his 18 targets, behind Corey Davis and Braxton Berrios. There's a lot to like about the rookie second-rounder, but it's hard to justify holding him in standard 12-team leagues with his head injury and the fact that Jamison Crowder (groin) is closer to making his season debut.
New York Jets wide receiver Jeff Smith has seen plenty of targets, but has been unable to capitalize on his chances. This season, Smith has hauled in 14 of his 33 targets, which is quite sad. The Jets continue to throw it his way expecting different results. He'll be a tough player to trust against the tough New England Patriots secondary. The Jets receivers are getting healthy, so Smith should see his targets drop significantly going forward.
New York Jets wide receiver Jeff Smith was basically a non-factor in the Week 8 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. This offense was without Jamison Crowder (groin) and Breshad Perriman (head), so Smith saw plenty of targets. Sadly, he was only able to haul in three of his eight targets for 29 yards in the loss. Smith continues to fail when the ball is thrown his way. The Jets continue to give him chances for some reason, but fantasy owners shouldn't bother looking at him.
New York Jets wide receiver Jeff Smith saw 20 total targets over a two week period, but was only able to haul in 10 of them. He saw an increased workload with Breshad Perriman (ankle) sidelined. However, last week Perriman returned, which means Smith saw his workload decrease heavily. Smith saw four targets and he only hauled in one of them for eight yards in the loss to the Miami Dolphins. It's unlikely that Smith carries much value against the Buffalo Bills in Week 7.
New York Jets wide receiver Jeff Smith was not able to do much damage during the Week 6 loss to the Miami Dolphins. He saw 20 total targets over the last two games coming into this one. However, Smith was only targeted four times here and hauled in one of them for eight yards. The return of Breshad Perriman basically killed all the momentum for Smith. He won't be on the fantasy radar for the Week 7 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
New York Jets wide receiver Jeff Smith has seen 20 total targets over the last two games. However, he has only hauled in 10 of them for 104 yards, so there hasn't been much fantasy value coming from Smith. He's getting plenty of targets with the Jets banged up, but Breshad Perriman (ankle) and Denzel Mims (hamstring) returned to practice this week. Smith has been unable to capitalize on his chances and will likely see his workload decrease going forward. He can be avoided in standard leagues and is a risky option in deep leagues for the Week 6 matchup with the Miami Dolphins.
New York Jets wide receiver Jeff Smith has seen his usage spike with Breshad Perriman (ankle) sidelined. He hauled in three of his 11 targets for 23 yards in the Week 5 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Smith has seen a total of 20 targets over the last two weeks. Sadly, he hasn't been able to do much damage with them. Perriman is expected to play in the Week 6 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. That would knock Smith off the fantasy radar going forward.
